Title: Heightened sences???
Post by 12gagueblast on Dec 3rd, 2003, 1:57am
I have heard some talk about this and was wondering how common it was.  I have a VERY poor sense of smell normally, I usually smell nothing unless it is very strong and then it fades very fast as I get used to it.  When I am in a cycle and having a CH it is much closer to normal or even acute.  I can smell all sorts of things that I normally had no idea were there, my wife’s smell on her pillow and so forth.  The smells don’t trigger my CHs, but some of the smells that I am not used to will make me a little nauseous.  Just wondering if any of you had similar experiences?    Thanks for the time  :)

I have a nauseatingly keen sense of smell all of the time - except when I have a cold.
Don't know which is the lesser of the two evils, for it is NOT fun NOT, to smell every dog turd on the sidewalk or perfume trails in the street of people who are long out of sight...

The cluster does not change my sense of smell, for that was what you were asking, right?

My senses aren't really any different.  One the of the biggest differences in me is my appetite.  After I have been hit I crave salt and spicy stuff.  But the more salt the better.

My senses are turned up quite a bit during an attack.  My sense of smell is intensified and my taste buds seem to go wack-o...

I never noticed any increased senses, except an increased sense of pain. I don't doubt that some clusterheads have increased smell or other senses, though.  Parts of the brain slow down, other parts speed up.

My wife, who has migraines, becomes very sensitive to smell, light, sound before and during a migraine.

I have read tons of posts here where folks talk about smell-sensitivity during clusters.  Many many people have posted about sensitivity and a complete intolerance of certain smells during clusters.

I tend to think senses to smell do become heightened during clusters for lots of people.

PS:  During clusters - most ALL strong smells repulse me, especially perfumes/pot pourri?  I remember long ago being completely inSENSED at the smell of italian gravy cooking on the stove at my mom's house (normally I love italian gravy smell...........)
