Title: I feel helpless
Post by MillieMoer on Nov 24th, 2003, 6:14am
what am i suppose to do b4 i get "official" help, I have been reading this site and find lots of drug names but nothing to help in the mean time. Also, I have been having pain in my right eye and temple area cheek area above ear for 3 days straight now, it will go from the contant pain to excruciating severe pain at any time, than back to the constant pain again. THe severe pain lasting only a short while. I am in Hell, not just visiting.
I had finnaly fallen asleep at around 3am and got woken out of a sound exhaustive sleep with searing pain again.  HELP
Millie

Have you been diagnosed by a neuro? Is he/she treating you?

You cant get "official" help here.

You can get sincere support though.

when i ment "official" help i was referring to a neuro or other doc....but it takes a while to get in....i dont need pain meds ....have plenty of those....i was just wondering if there was anything i could try (like cold compresses...only thing so far that has helped some) before i see the doc to help eleviate some of this. I have an appointment this morning with my retinal specialist, he is the one who suggested that i have cluster headaches...he may refer me to a neurologist , im not sure....but for now, i havent been "officially" diagnosed or treated.....

Hi Millie :)

Sorry to hear you're having a bad time...  :(
I must warn you though, if you're dealing with CH, the ordinary pain meds don't do much help with the pain and it might take a while before you'll find meds that will.  I got my CH diagnosis in January and I'm yet to find the preventing med that could kill my cycle and send my CH into remission.

But anyway, I am glad that you're here, as till site makes life with CH hell of a lot easier to take! ;;D

Best wishes,
sandie99

Sorry to hear your having such a bad time. If it is real CH, there is not much that will work. Every med last a little while, but eventually the CH return. When you find out if it is CH, I suggest you try IMITREX. It's the only thing that WORKS for me.
I suggest sticking around this time. I've only been here a weeks now and it really helps. There are a lot of people who truly understand your problem.

Not true.

Many sufferers have found a med regimine that is beneficial, myself included, that will improve the quality of your life while in cyle. It may take some time but there are good effective treatments available.

I'm all for non-script treatments and the best thing I have used to date is the Cal-Mag supplement...also good for osteoporosis treatment for those over 30 or 40 (preventative) every time I get a CH I eat a 300mg capsule of cal-mag (300mg of each cal&mag). Seems to either abort or tone down the effects of the CH. I'm using verapamil and DHE for treatments, but when those fail the magnesium seems to do the trick for me. Try it, it can't hurt more than it already does. Oh yeah...and like 3 glasses of water when you take the cal-mag to get it into the system pronto!
Hope it helps...your friend in suffering :-*

There are a few things you can try:  Pretty violent exercise sometimes helps (running, treadmill, etc) to abort an attack sooner. I think some kind of cold shower (not necessarily on the head) may help and you might have some luck with the following link. It needs a rewrite but it worked for me:

Coffee was my first "med".  Also, try a hot shower.  They may not work directly but it may help a little.

Good luck Millie.

You might want to try drinking cold water with ice cubes in 'em. For Jos (my hubby who has the clusters not me) it seems to help a lot, and with him we haven't been able to find much that will help so far (but we got a few really good tips, am trying those now, read the med's forum).

When dealing with CH, it's not a question of if...it's when!
