Title: Question for episodics
Post by thomas on Nov 20th, 2003, 4:20pm
Do any of you go through about a month of depression after your cycle has ended?

I go through about 2-3 weeks of serious anxiety before the cycle starts.  I never paid attention to that until this time.  Not so much a problem during the day, but I would wake up at night with an overpowering feeling of dread.  When the cycle ends, I don't remember how I feel for a while.  I will try to pay attention to that.

Not so much depression as fatigue, irregular heart beat, mental fog, and generally feeling like crap.  Last two years, the beast announced his departure with a hot flash - literally thought I would die of hyperthermia.  Went from 98.6 to near combustion in a few seconds, then chills, then uncontrollable shaking.  Hot flashes are usually thought of a female complaint (yeah, just like clusters are a male thing!) - but CGRP that causes hot flashes is on the list of "things messed up in cluster heads."

CGRP - calcitonin gene releasing peptide

I was chronic for years. Now I am episodic! It seems strange saying that! I thought I would be chronic all my life. When I am over a cycle I am on a high and happy. I spend a week or two not depressed but on gard just incase it is not over yet. Depressed I only get that way when it first hits. Then I deal and wait for it all to end.

The reason I asked, is because my girlfriend brought up - "After your cycles, you're on a high for about 2 weeks, then you go into a 30 day funk where you just suck to be around."  I do the anxiety thing before and all during my cycle paigelle.

I'm usually pretty high when these things leave me.  I do tend to get a bit depressed during a cycle.

I've been getting hot/cold flashes for a few days now, but haven't thought much of it.  I hope this means my cycle is almost over!  I wonder how many other people experience the same thing?

I hate the anxiety thing! I almost think if I would pay attention before to what is happening that I could get meds quicker.  Do you take your SSRI year round?

I also am on guard for about 2 weeks after the cycle, just wondering if it is really gone.

Do you guys crave anything food wise after you have been hit?

I only take it during a cycle - I'm normally a pretty happy-go lucky guy.

I am pretty much a free spirit, so the Prozac thing freaked me out a little.

But I can't take any beta or calcium channel blockers because my blood pressure is 102/64.

Yep, 20mg.   I am so glad it helped you.  I hope it does the same for me.  So I should keep taking my Melatonin?

Oh yeah!!!!!!  I'm still taking it.  I will probably come off it if I go a week without shadows.
