Well, Thanksgiving is approaching, gosh where did the time go? I am going to see my family in Wilburton Oklahoma...unfortunately, we have lost several family members over the years and this year I am going to start a new tradition!

I am going to get some candle holders and candles (obviously) and write the name of each member of my family that has passed over the years on the holders, and light a candle in their honor...I will then continue the old tradition of getting tipsy (ok drunk) watching football, and hanging out with my Granny while we sneak bites of pie and turtle cake until its time to eat!!

Anyone else want to share their traditions?? Anyone starting new traditions this year?

Just moved into a new house, don't know what we're going to do yet. I will eat untill I pass out though.

lol...my traditions consists of getting miffed at my self-centered, egotistical, flower-child (not that there's anything wrong with that) sister; sleeping on a gawd-awful futon; and trying to let my mother's criticisms wash over me with no effect.

Yea, I love the holidays...lol.

Oh Aprilbee that sounds like something wonderful (the candles I meant...lol) Sounds like you'll make it a real special holiday, so I guess for your kindess it'll be ok to get yourself drunk after!! ;)

As for us, I've learned that traditions sometimes need changing. As the kids grow up, so do "their" plans. So as our family grows, our plans adjust.

For this year, I have my youngest who will be gone for deer hunting. (sure hoping he gets his kill this year, that would be a great Thanksgiving for him) My sister and brother in law are going to be deer hunting too. My parents always go camping for Thanksgiving. Kinda chilly, but that's ok, we live in Louisiana and enjoy having chilly air finally. My other sister's husband leaves to go to work for 7 days that day, so we'll probably do some cooking here at my house together. Still got my imitrex to "baste" that beast with in the event he decides to still be around.

Later in the day her and I will most definately be looking over the sales paper to plan our shopping date for the following day. She's staying sleep over, and we're headed out for Christmas shopping early the next morning.

And you know what, THAT in itself is a tradition.........going with the flow of things.... :)

My family is really simple. My parents do not like my husband so we dont talk or anything for the past 5 years or so. His mom is in Oregon and usually cant come down.

So Thanksgiving is simply a family thing with just the 4 of us. I cook a ham with Cranberry-Orange relish and sweet potatoe pies, hubby watches football (if it is a good game) and we watch movies and such all day long.

Friday we take the kids to daycare for a few hours while he and I go shopping for the kids christmas presents and spend a little grown up time alone before we go pick them up and spend the rest of the weekend together.

I'll stuff and bake a small Turkey to share with my cats.
Then I will pretend to watch football and get drunk.

The candle thing is a great idea.

We don't do anything formal. No family really. Just the 4 of us, and of course a 3 and 5 year old could care less about a big meal. I actually hate making such a big mess and going to all the work for hours, for a 15 min. meal, and hours of clean up.

My favorite part is football I guess.

I am thankful for all of the special people I have met here on the board, for a wonderful family, a nice, warm home, and for the most part, good health.

I wish all of you a wonderful Thanksgiving season.

I will share with you my new dish for Thanksgiving. It is my new tradition I started last year. It's awesome.

Leftover casserole

Spray a casserole dish or two with Pam, or lightly oil
Preheat oven to 450*

Break apart left over rolls and place in bottom of dish
Add thick layer of leftover (boneless) shredded turkey (or cut in pieces)
On top of that, spoon on a layer of leftover stuffing
Then several spoonfulls of leftover mashed potatos
Then drench in leftover gravy
Add about a cup of milk so it won't be dry
If you really like bread, you can put a layer of rolls on top too.

Bake about 45 min to 1 hour or until hot and bubbly. (May take longer right out of the refrigerator).
Let set 15 min. And serve with leftover cranberry sauce and pie!!

Enjoy!

Cuts down on a dozen different bowls of leftovers in the fridge, and can be frozen so you can have a nice dinner 2 weeks later after you aren't sick of turkey anymore. [smiley=laugh.gif]

The last few Thanksgivings we been real thankful for us all being together. I was sick so it was a smiple dinner at home or we went out. But this year its back to the hussel and bussel. :)

We are planing a nice big Dinner here! I think my daughter and her three children and her husband are coming. My cousin is coming. We adopted a family this year and I am making a basket with a trukey and all the stuff to go with it and will deliver it Monday .
My mom and dad can't come and they don't feel like us all messing up their house so I will take them a plate.

This week end we will geather up all our old coats and get in the car and go to Atlanta and hand them out to the homeless. We do that every year!

Little Deb I printed that recipe out! I love recipes I read recipe books like people read the paper.

Aprilbee I have lost some loved ones also. That is just a wondeful idea. I may have to do that, been wondering what I could do to remember them.

You all know that you will all be remembered at our table this year. I am very thankful for you guys !

Well, let's see........
My oldest son and his family are going to the deer lease to look for Bambi's mom and or dad!

My other 2 son's and their families will be here at my place for dinner.

On Saturday, I am going over to the lakehouse and meet the "Great White Hunter" (oldest son), and his wife. On Sunday, we are going to the casino for the day and I will work on spending their inheritance. LOL

My hubby will stay here..........gambling and spending $$ makes him teary eyed. [smiley=laugh.gif]

I, too, am very thankful for my CH family....sending all of you lotz of pf vibes and my love for this Thanksgiving Day.

It wouldn’t be the same without our family traditions.

Every Thanksgiving I spring out of bed at 2:00 PM, reheat whatever I find near the microwave, see if I need to make my weekly underwear change, buy beer, lacerate the turkey... which is problematic depending on how much Labatts I haven’t spilled, gobble dinner, cheat at Scrabble and make sure the movie is a good one for sleep. Later, I make the popcorn and get set for 6 hours of un-interrupted C-SPAN and taped fly fishing. I cap it off watching calcium and pecker enlarging commercials.

It wouldn’t be the same without these traditions and I'll be on needles until next year. It’s a full life.

I usually escape and go to friends or relatives for dinner but this year my smart ass son bought me a turkey to cook. Is that a hint? Damn kids.... ;;D

Just found out we're eating at friends - the problem they're all on the "Gluten-free" diet. No mashed taters, no stuffing, no onions- jeez what am I going to eat?

It's gotta be tough at Thanksgiving for them. Bet there'll be lots of corn muffins. Mom used to make them for the hell of it. Sounds like good stuffing too. Wonder what else they use. Carrots? Not easy but it's interesting.

Have fun even if you have to bring your own beer.
