Title: Istanbul bomb.No Coincidence?
Post by pubgirl on Nov 20th, 2003, 7:49am
R.e. the GWB in the UK threads.
Don't think it is any coincidence that the Istanbul bomb targeting two British institutions has happened while GWB is here. We are being taught an evil lesson here.

Will this make the protestors shut up or shout even louder I wonder?

I for one agree with the sentiments expressed by Tony Blair and GWB at the Press Conference.
Terrorists aren't to be reasoned with.

Blast the bastards into oblivion.

An angry Brit

Can't find anything to laugh about now >:(

Don't know if the timing was specific to the Bush visit.  Could just be part of the Ramadan offensive, which may peak this weekend with the "night of power" - a tradition in Islam that the Quran was revealed on one of the odd numbered last ten days in the month of Ramadan.  Saladin (who bin Laden models himself on) recaptured Jerusalem during the crusades in a battle that ended the morning after the night of power.

Is there a solution?

Blast them into oblivion?  I don't think so.  That's like throwing a grenade into a patient to rid him of cancer.  Exactly *who* do you blow up?  Anybody living in the desert?  All the muslims?  Just the 'bad' ones?  What about the Phillipines or Malysia or Indonesia?  The bad guys are completely integrated into the fabric of our existence.  It's not possible to rid ourselves of them.

I just don't see how this crap ends.  Ever.

I just hope they (or the people fighting them) don't blow ME up.

Probably just a coincidence.
Might want to look at their urban renewel schedule. That sort of thing is always going on.
The Armenians are probably right about the place anyway.

Cheerful stuff Fu!
Interesting stuff Floridian. That would explain why we have been on almost highest level terror alert here before GWB arrived as they claimed 'intelligence sources' told us to expect an attack. Was staying away from London though as I thought it would be there.

Poor Turkey. Apparently that is now 60 nations who have lost people in this conflict.

Sorry Wendy.  I just read a good portion of 'Hatred's Kingdom', and the facts in it are scary and depressing.  We 'rational' types will never understand or fully grasp the depth and breadth of what motivates the terrorist.  It is for this reason that we will never deal with it in a way that puts an end to it.  In fact, the things we do to 'deal' with it these days only motivates them.

It sounds depressing because it is depressing.

It's like dealing with cockroaches.  You can rain death down on them, but they scatter and hide and multiply and attack, inevitably.  It's what they do.

Ugh.

Yeah.....I agree that we can't deal with this mob. Turkey is way down on my list of places to visit. It's hard to know about the timing.

What a horror this is and we're getting to used to it. 27 dead is a touch bigger news than the freak show in Santa Barbara.

It's not new though, it's just on TV and the internet. Historically, it's no worse and I'd not bet against it being safer. Not much comfort though.

It didn't seem to have much effect on the protestors. It was at least a warm time in the old town last night.
