Just read @www.mgh.harvard.edu. that alcohol relieves clusters. I dont think so @ least in my case they dont. What do make of this? Thanks.

Anyone else read up on this information? I know what is posted here, but being a lifetime non-alcoholic drinker, have no opinion myself...so feedback please...

I couldn't bring up the article, but alcohol is probably, no absolutely the #1 trigger for me, I stay completely away when in cycle, and I really don't drink much when out of cycle...Lucy, you got som splainin to do.... ::)

well I dont know what to make of it...I do know that when I have a bad cluster, a few beers later I dont feel shit..

In cycle I can take ONE drink and get hammered 15 minutes later...damndest thing...and I like to drink.

However....my "Alternative Therapy" (http://www.clusterheadaches.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=meds;action=display;num=1067037622) has worked so well I find myself having a little Rum before bed with no problems.....amazing! Stopped a cycle dead in it's tracks.

I wouldn't really call it research... Just some guy's observation that 1 beer gives him a CH, but when he pounds 5 fast ones at the onset of a HA, it relieves the pain.

Not sure that I buy into that one......... ::)

Even if the "pound 4 beers quickly method" works (and thats a big if), alcoholism is a real concern. That post is curious, but I don't know if its good advice. Two summers ago I gave up not drinking and had about 6 beers while at an arena footbal game. The next day, the beast came a banging and I was into a cycle.

So this article is basically telling us that getting drunk is the answer. So, what about the chronic ones? Does that mean that would be clusterheads and alcoholics? I think there is more to that than he is telling.

I had similar experiances when I drank. I drank alcoholically so NOT drinking was not an option at the time. My way around the CH was to consume many drinks in rapid succession and that would sometimes get me by the attack.

It also gave me a great reason to get drunk. Medicinal purposes. Always heard a lot of muffled laughter at the local VFW when I said that. Sounded good to me anyway!

I sure wouldn't try this. During the cycle of CHs thst just ended, I was a tea-totaller for the duration. Taking a drink is the way I test to be SURE they're gone.

Before I was diagnosed with chronic CH, I knew that I could "pound" beers (at least 3) quickly to the buzz state, and I would avoid HAs...it was key to "ride the buzz" from there. From that knowledge, when I would start to feel an attack come on, I have tried the same method...don't do that! BAD IDEA!! If I have even the mildest of shadows and I drink beer, no matter how fast, it will turn into the MOAH (mother of all HAs)! If I am PF, and I drink at a "social" rate (no more than 1 per 30-40 minutes), then I get hit somewhere around 80% of the time. The same holds true for me with rum as well. So far, I have never had vodka trigger an attack. I'm not sure I want to try and see with other liquors and/or whiskey. I haven't tried the "slamming" method since being diagnosed, and I have given up beer and rum...actually, I rarely drink anything anymore.
