Title: Tomorrow, on the 11th hour, 11th day, 11th month..
Post by catlind on Nov 10th, 2003, 10:42am
So that all will remember tomorrow.

For Veterans day and Rememberance Day, I say thank you to all the service men, past, present and future.

Cat

In Flanders Fields
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Too many people either forget or don't care what has been sacrificed in the past to ensure the freedom we enjoy today. During WW1 alone Canada lost 67,000 men in Europe. That would be like the U.S. losing 3,000,000 soldiers today!Let's be grateful (at least here in Canada)that our generation hasn't had to go through what our grandparents and great grandparents went through. Here's to all the men and women who sacrificed everything so my family and friends could live the great life.Thankyou! So true.  Too many people think its a free day off and a sale day at the malls.

I know I'll be remembering what Veterans' Day is all about.  Thanks to everyone who has and is serving to defend this great country!

Atsugi, Japan; San Diego, CA (Coronado Island); Millington, TN; Orlando, FL.

I loved my time in the military.  There are times when I would like to go back in.

I am a veteran, my father is a veteran(WWII), my brother is a veteran, my husband is a veteran(Vietnam), my grandfather was a veteran(WWI), I have one Uncle who was a Rear Admiral in the Navy, I have one Uncle who was a Full Bird Colonel in the Marines,  I have a cousin who is still in the Marines (may be a colonel by now)
I come from a great line of people who have believed in and fought for the rights and privileges we enjoy today.

Thank you.

Great post!

I finished my service (during Vietnam period of horror) aboard the USS William V. Pratt, DLG-13, out of Mayport Florida.

Great time!  Partly because it was pre Clusters!

I have one son, now out of the Navy, and going to college, and another (with his wife) who are both stationed in Pearl Harbor.  This is the son that just returned from a tour aboard the USS Nimitz, a bird farm (aircraft carrier) that was over in "the gulf".

I also have a long family history of service to our great country, Father, Father-in-law, uncles, brother, brothers-in-law, and nephews.

I also have a relative that was in the Revolutionary war, but, but ... Ummm .... He was on the loosing side!

Can I ask a small favor from you guys on Veteran's day...can you say a prayer for my fellows at the Nursing home where I work...as I said in my previous post, they have Alzheimers and they are all veterans of the war....tomorrow , most of them dont even know it will be Veteran's Day...they dont even realize we will be honoring them....Tonite, when I left , I saluted them...They just smiled at me...They are my heros...These men who some of them , have noone that cares anymore...that can not take care of themselves anymore...these men fought for our freedom once...and I salute them....They are some of the bravest men I have ever met and feel so proud to serve them everyday! I would just like to say a special salute to all the veterans at CM TUCKER! Ward 120..... :)nancyc

My husband was Army Special Forces.  He was a combat Medic.  He got out after Desert Storm, they were going to Medical Discharge but he chose to leave when they downsized forces.  He blew his knees out jumping.

I have to share this, it really freaked me out at the time.  The evening of 9/11, we where home watching the news coming from New York and the phone rang.  I answered it and it was a very stiff voice on the other end asking for my husband.  My husband was on the phone for about 10 mins total and when he hung up he just started laughing. It was his old sergeant who was tracking down everyone who he served with to make sure that they were ok and that they had no family in New York.  I guess I am pretty Naive about the military cause my comment was "but we have an unlisted number" and he said that if the military wants to track you down they do.

Happy Veterans Day everyone.  If nothing else, take a few mins to be thankful that we live in a country that allows us to all talk to each other on a board like this.
