Title: Hello!
Post by Nitro on Nov 7th, 2003, 8:55pm
Greetings,

I have had CHs since I was about 13 yrs old.  I'm 29 now so they have become a part of my life.  I am ep so I am gratefull that I only have to endure them once or twice a year for a few months each time.  My cycle started a few weeks ago but I actually went to the doctor for the first time for them.  (My wife insisted after I begged her to bash me in the head with a bat and knock me out one night)  I'm thankful that my doctor did seem to have an understanding of CHs so she perscribed Imitrex and verapamil.  For the first time I have been able to manage this damn curse.  The Imitrex is sending the beast to sleep in about 10 minutes and the verapamil seems to be working after two weeks of 1-2 kip 5-10s every day.  I've been pf for 4 days now without having to "shootup" the trex.  I'm so thankful that this combo is working.  (At least for now).  Thanks for this site and all the great info here.

Welcome aboard.

After we run out of expletives to delete, we find places like this and more to add to our collection.   ::)

Anyway, it's a pretty big crowd and the one thing we have in common is that we don't have the near impossible task of making others understand that this has nothing to do with what others think of as headache.

If you look around and read some of the posts and other information, you'll find all sorts of good ideas about dealing with this horror.  You might want to give this technique a try. It needs a rewrite but it worked for me:

Good luck and let us know how you're doing.

Sorry you need to be here. There is a ton of info though on CH so read, read, read. Check out the oxygen info on the left and go to OUCH for more on CH and maybe you can join up while you're there. Hoping you have a short cycle. Glad you found this site!!

Damn, you are lucky!

If you find the hits returning, get O2 prescribed exactly as the "oxygen info" link to the left calls for.  It will reduce your trex usage (hopefully).  Additionally, check out the "imitrex tip" link on the left...there may be some useful info for you there.

Finally, change your handle (j/k)!  Nitro is a trigger...   ;;D

Welcome aboard!

Welcome to Clusterville. REad READ READ!! There's years of info here on CH.

Try the O2. It sure works on a lot of us (sometimes).

You've found the place to be even if we are sorry to see another name on here.

Nitro,

You seem to have a fairly knowledgable Dr. there.  Good for you my friend.  Not everyone here has had that experience.

Ask her to prescribe oxygen for you also as a back-up to the Imitrex and Verapamil.

   Have you joined OUCH ?????

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. My doctor said she would perscribe the o2 if the verap and trex didn't work.  Thank goodness I haven't needed it yet.  It's good to know she will give it to me if I need it though.

Now I have a question, or more of a need of opinion.  My doctor gives me a script for 12 trex stat doses at a time, and has called my insurance to pay for more than a few a month.  My wife picked up my script last night and they gave her 12 BOXES!  Which is 24 injections.  They only charged me my $20.00 co-pay.  On the receipt is says 12 doses, so I guess somebody messed up and gave her too many.  So do I do the honest thing and give them back, or do I keep them and consider it my lucky day.  I'm not so concerned about saving the money because my doctor said she would call the insurance any time I needed them.  My wife says to keep them, but I don't know if I would feel right about it.   Thats a $1400.00 misstake on the pharmacys part!  I'm still not sure what to do.
Thanks again for the warm welcome!

Im pretty sure they come two to a box, which means you got the right amount.

Did you know you can turn 24 shots into 72?

jonny

They do come two to a box, but the previous script I filled they gave me six boxes=12 doses.  The script says 12 doses so I think they messed up.  I did read the trex tip, but as long as my insurance keeps payin I'll just use them with the pen.  If my insurance decides to bail out, I will use the tip.

Well, that shit is worth more than gold to lots of folks here and is probably to you now.....KEEP IT!!!

Insurance companies have been bending us over for how long?...time to bend them....

Thats my opinion.

Everytime I get my trex script filled/refilled, the pharmacy wants to do it differently.  Just let them know that the "last time" you were there they gave you the number in boxes...not injections.  For the future, just have the doc write the script for # of boxes just to save the questions later on.  I always get my script filled in boxes...not injection count.

For most Cluster Sufferers...Trex is Gold...so to hell with the Cold-hearted Corporate Bastards....Keep em. If you don't use them all...save them.

BTW,

Welcome.

If it was the insurance co's mistake I would keep em, but it sounds like a pharmacy mistake and when they take inventory or go to pull the next order someones head will probably roll. Imetrex inj. is the most confusing drug for pharmacies I have ever seen.

One thing to think of also is they (the pharmacy) cannot
take back or exchange prescription drugs, Federal Law.

Keep em,

Lee

Thanks for all the advice.  Imitrex is better than gold to me. I think I'm gonna keep em unless the pharmacy calls asking about it.  I wouldn't feel right lying about it.
