Title: New member intro
Post by Mac on Oct 27th, 2003, 7:32pm
Hi everybody. I joined a while ago but this is my first post. I first started getting these headaches about 3 and a half years ago but it wasn't until February of this year ::) that they figured out what was going on. Clusters was mentioned a couple of times but my symptoms were confusing me. I thought I was having sinus attacks and as it turned out I had three different infections of my sinuses all at the same time. One was the worst you could get(forget the name). After a multitude of specialists the last one explained the symptoms and the relationship to my sinuses. I was on so much sudafed and then drixoral near the end I was doing a package of TWENTY Drixoral a day :o just to fend off the attacks. It was brutal, not to mention expensive. It was a good thing I have low blood pressure or I could have been in real trouble. With this kind of pain though you do anything - am i right? I figure I had close to a thousand attacks before I was diagnosed. Anyways I still get attacks almost daily but now I have[smiley=bow.gif]Imitrex and so far it still works.I'm an artist and a musician and believe me the last place you want the beast to show up is on stage will your rockin' and the lights are going and you have to sing... [smiley=hammer.gif] Anyways that's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

Damn, I always hate to do this, because it means another sufferer is cursed with this problem, but WELCOME ABOARD!

I hate it that you have to be here, but if you are a clusterhead, you are in the right place!

Now, grab an oar, and start rowing.  We have a VICIOUS task mistress (Cootie) and she will be on your case if you don't pull your weight!  heehee ...

Carl D can relate to you.

Sorry you were diagnosed with this awful stuff, but glad you found us here. This is the best medicine you'll get. Any questions, problems, or just plain old support is here for the asking (and sometimes it's thrown in without the asking).

From what you just said, you're Chronic (3 years without a break?). There's a thred down below about that. And a world of info about meds and other treatments.

Pull up a chair and READ READ READ. Take the info to your doc and educate him/her. That's how we deal with this demon. I'm chronic and have been here since before dirt, so any way I can help just give me a yell.

Hugs BD

Thanks everybody. I wish we'd met under different circumstances but it's comforting to know that there are others that know what I go through. Not that I'm glad you go through what I go through...you know what I mean. ;)

Welcome aboard! :)

When you have the curse called ch, this place is the blessing that comes along with it! :)

Funny, but ch brought my old love for rock music back alive! When I was dealing with the pain, I related to rock...

Best wishes & PFdays,

Hullo, Mac!

Welcome aboard! As other have wrote before, sorry you have to be here, but glad you found a home. The inmates here are crazy (well, with the exception of ME of course), but a fine bunch of crazies. They've helped me through a lot.

I, too, am an artist and can relate. Sit down and read, Read, READ. There is tons of great info scattered about.

Good luck to you and remember:

When you're lying awake with a dismal headache,
and repose is taboo'd by anxiety,
I conceive you may use any language you choose
to indulge in, without impropriety

Hi Mac,
Welcome to the madness, sorry you have a reason to look for us though.  I see you're from Edmonton (I'm in Calgary) - looks like you're going to get DUMPED on today!   [smiley=sgrin.gif]  Yes, we're going to get some too but not as much as you!
Anyways, Edm/Cgy rivalry aside ;), are you under the care of a cluster knowledgeable neuro?  There is a list of these doctors over at the OUCH website (www.clusterheadaches.org) in the first menu above the map.
If you ever come down to Calgary, our Foothills Hospital has a great headache clinic and my husband is a patient of Dr. Werner Becker and Dr. Eloft there.  They were very accommodating to us (after a little supporter "greasiness" ;)) when he was last in cycle.
Again, Mac - welcome and please feel free to email me directly if you need more "local" cluster help.
Too bad about your baseball/football/hockey teams.

Thankyou everybody for the nice warm welcome :D.I'll try to visit the site daily to learn as much as I can about our common problem. To Woobie, I play a variety of Rock and Roll. From the Beatles and Van Morrison to the Tragically Hip,Green Day and the Foo Fighters. I play in a duo here in Edmonton and we play pubs and bars and private functions. We play 35- 40 weekends a year. The rest of the time I work as a freelance Illustrator/cartoonist. One of my regular art gigs is drawing cartoons for The Edmonton Journal, the big daily up here.
To Margi I would like to thank you for your offers of helping find a good doctor/clinic and sincere sympathy for our sports teams. It HAS been a burden carrying all those championships around for all these years ;;D. ABC(anybody but Calgary!)bwaaaahahahaha...
