Take the cluster quiz on the left its the 3rd green button on the left... that should set some light to your question... There are alot of sufferers that are effected by the light... some arent... When you are in the kind of extreme pain that they are in I don't think light matters either way. Keep us posted as to whether or not you are going to stick around I hope you dont have clusters... it sounds as if you do though... good luck and welcome Ree

Welcome to the House of Pain.
Waking up at the same time everynight is real familiar to me. During my pain, i am sensitive to most everything, but truly it is mostly just a response to the unbearable pain. As said before, Tons of information on the left side of this page.

Good luck, Patrick

ps...Started gettings CH's at the age of 16, now 44

Well, How young you talkin about ???
I reckon I'm still young...lol. Is 35 young enough?
Anyway, yes, they usually come the same time of day/night for me and I do get the light sensitivity, not usually sound sensitive tho. :-/

There is a wealth of info in the buttons on the left to learn more.

Best of luck,
Ramon

Welcome aboard but it's always sad to pipe aboard another sufferer. However, you're welcome and it's the place to be when you're hit by this horror.

To answer your questions:  I was 23 when I got my first attack. The 20s seems to be when many of us first encounter this monster.  It sounds to me like you have clusters as so far as I know, only a cluster will wake one out of a sound sleep. I was usually awakened about 90 minutes after hitting the hay.

Stick around and let us know how you're doing. You'll find some good ideas and ways to deal with this horror.

Charlie

Thanks for all the info. guys.  I took a couple of the surveys but they weren't able to provide me w/ much info. - I'll check it out a little more though.  Maybe I'll find something that'll help.
I do have to say that this is by far the worst pain I've ever had in my life.  I'm not really sure what's causing the headaches b/c I'm not under a lot of stress but I know that smoking is a factor - maybe it's time to quit :-/.
It would be much easier to quit smoking than deal w/ these headaches!! ;)

Cluster Headaches:  Always described as the worst pain there is. Sad to say, it sounds like you belong. Of course, I hope I'm wrong.

Good luck and let us know.

Hi I'm 26 and started getting clusters about 5-6 yrs ago.  Light doesn't hurt my Cluster headache attack but I do prefer dim lighting during an attack.  I also get migraines that started when I was about 16 and light plain old HURTS when I have one of those.  Alot of sound annoys me during a CH attack but during a migraine sound hurts.  None of us can diagnose your headache and if your doctor doesn't know it's time to find a new doctor or atleast visit a neurologist.  Also have you had a CAT Scan and or MRI done?  Those should always be done to rule out anything more "serious" than an benign headache (yes if you do have CH this headpain CAN'T kill you)

Good morning everyone, well it's about 9:15 my time, not sure what time it is where you guys are  ???.  Last night I looked over the site a little more and read some of the info. and I'm still not 100% for sure that it is a cluster alone that I'm suffering from.  I have a lot of signs leaning towards both migraines & clusters, that's fun huh??  :P  But I think I'll take the advice & have another doctor examine me so I can find out what the problem is and hopefully make it go away.
This is by far the best site I've been to for clusters.  It gives a lot of good information.  And all the members are very helpful, which is great!

Hey Cathy,
That would be wonderful.  I've been smoking since I was about 14 (which is really bad, I know) but yes I'd love to quit.  It's too expensive!! [smiley=laugh.gif].

"Hey everyone, I've got a question - I'm just wondering is there any young people out there (I'm 24) that suffer from these things?"

24 years old?  Geez you're farting dust your so old.  I started CH's when I was 11, now i'm 35.  Yes, same time every night, sometimes sametime in the day too and always the same time every year.  Take the quiz, read recent and archival posts on this site and the OUCH site.  We are here for help if you need us.
Good luck.

Welcome Lisa, Mchl and Martin,

An average CH starts in the 20's. (I' was 23 then and 44 now)

There is a lot of info about CH but look for a good neuro.

PFDANs,

Steve

Yep --- clusters started at 20.   now 42.

sound can bother me while being hit --- more just an annoyance than anything else.

light, on the other, hand doesn't bother me at all.  Actually, I prefer to keep the lights on so I don't walk into coffee tables, etc... while pacing.      :o

and YES - smoking is DEFINITELY a trigger for me while in cycle.

good luck and stick around,

My son Joshua started getting cluster headaches and migraines a couple of years ago and he is almost 18.  He gets his ha at the same time every day.

Lisa,
I understand entirely tooooo much about what you're going through.  I have the exact same things happen to me when a cluster is coming on.  I am 25, so we're pretty close to the same age.
Keep me posted, hope you don't get anymore of these terrible things!!! ;)

My headaches started when I was about 18, and I am now 27. The determinig factor was my description of the pain. The doctor immediately recognized my headaches as something different when I descibed it as a white hot corkscrew being driven into my temple, or like being injected with molten metal into the temple. One of the immediate red flags for the doctor was the fact that I smoke, but when I have headaches, smoking is a distraction so that I don't focus too much on the pain. Light and sound are things that I avoid just to try and still myself and calm down. I hate the impulse to fidget!

CH's started for me at age 15 and am now 38....

I started smoking when I was 14 and quit in my early 20's....no changes in the visits from the beast.....

My ch's usually come at the same time of the day and night with each cycle....they've remained pretty much consistent all of these years.....

I like a dim light room when I have ch's - more of a comfort zone than anything else.....

You really need to find a good neuro - check the list on the left hand side and see if there is a recommended one in your area....

Good luck to you,
Mia
