Title: New Med Direction
Post by stevegeebe on Oct 9th, 2003, 9:05pm
Going to the Head Doc tomorrow.

Been at it since April.  Wondering if anything worth mentioning that is working for you.

Been on Verapamil in combination with Depakote, Frova, Trex (spray) and o2.  Thank God for o2.

I wonder, besides o2, if anything works.  We take all kinds of stuff and the beast just fights it off and leaves when he wants to...if at all.

Sorry I'm not more positive with this.  I've not been down such a long stretch before.

Have you ever tried Neurontin as a preventative...up to the past two cycles Dave hadn't had much relief with Depakote combined with the rest of the abortives... the Neurontin really helped him... good luck  I'm sure there is something out there for you Steve hang in there... love to you ree good luck...

Steve,
Blake is on a combination of Verapamil, Lithium and Topomax.  The Topomax is doing the trick.....Verapamil and Lithium alone wasn't holding him.
Might be worth looking into if you haven't already tried it.  Have you tried the prednisone taper?

He has great luck with Zomig (to abort).  It holds him up to 8 hours thus allowing a good nights sleep.

Good luck,

Jackie,

What are Blake's dosages on those meds?

Zyprexa, 5 or 10 mg as an abortive.

There is a current message in the meds section to review. Basically, starting to hear from a few people who have had good success with it and it has a cost advantage compared to the triptans. I've always had full relief from an attack in 20-minutes.

Prense,
Blake takes 720mg Verapamil, 900mg Lithium and 150mg Topomax.  He takes the Verapamil and Lithium 3 times a day and the Topomax in the evening.  This is the best combination we've ever found.....and we've been looking for years.
Hope this helps.....

Jacks and all,

Doc bumped the Verapamil from 480 mg to 720 mg, added Neurotin1800mg per day, Cafergot, more Trex, a Prednisone taper, Bellaspas, Ambien (for sleep) and Dilaudid (for more sleep).

Jeepers creepers.

I got to do some reading!

Steve,

It has crossed my mind.

Early years I would just let it run its course.  Very painful but short.  Middle years, after I could not stand it anymore, I would get meds and it would eventually go away.  Did not know exactly why.  Lately I started meds at the onset and...well...here I am.

I feel stuck.  I hear all what we are taking and does it do any good?

I don't know.

I'm gona read and start the stuff that is directed toward the CH and avoid the stuff aimed at the pain and see what happens.

Thanks,
Steve G
