Title: Sugar as a trigger? Post by Transamdoug on May 15th, 2008, 4:11pm Hi all, read somewhere a chronic CHer cut sugar completely out of his diet and CH gone? Never was much for sweets when I was younger but sure crave them now, shortly before getting cycles myself started eating lots of sweets. Anyone experimented with this or have any proof one way or another? I'm starvin! |

Title: Re: Sugar as a trigger? Post by Tara Ann on May 15th, 2008, 4:16pm I've never noticed any link with sugar and trigger. (I'm chronic). Your starvin huh? Steroids? lol ;) BTW what year Transam is your fave? I like the last year they had the round headlights (1969 if I'm correct) It's my dream car. |

Title: Re: Sugar as a trigger? Post by Transamdoug on May 15th, 2008, 5:11pm Let me put it this way, ate a bunch of sweets yesterday and had shadows all day and a 7 last night. Today stayed away from the sweet stuff and much better. I plan on experimenting with this and wondered if anyone else had? |

Title: Re: Sugar as a trigger? Post by starlight on May 15th, 2008, 9:29pm Hi, I don't know about it, but it sure seems worth a try to cut it out and see. I know I would always have sugar in my coffee but have since cut it out (for different reasons). Only food I ever said hmmmm.... this seems like it might be helping was salmon--noticed a few pain free nights after eating salmon although sometimes it did not seem to bring about a painfree night. So, it's worth experiementing with nutrition and foods--it can't hurt, maybe might help. Good luck. |

Title: Re: Sugar as a trigger? Post by jon019 on May 16th, 2008, 10:46pm Ummm... nope. In high cycle, if I don't keep my blood sugar level up, I'm screwed. Means eating candy which I don't normally do. Yup, I know, roller coaster ride. The alternative is bam.....bam....bam... Regards, Jon |

Title: Re: Sugar as a trigger? Post by George_J on May 16th, 2008, 11:33pm Purely anecdotal, and based only on my own experience.... Been there, done that, didn't work. I went through a long period of cutting out various things to see whether or not doing so would help. Other than alcohol, I was never able to isolate any foodstuff that altered a cycle in any way--eliminating the recognized migraine triggers (like chocolate and cheese) made no difference whatsoever. In saying so, I mean that I wasn't looking at whether I got hit after eating something specific, or not eating something specific--I was looking at the average number of hits that occurred over a given period of time. That did not change in any significant way. I've always been a bit obsessive about documenting my cycles--before I met any of you, it was more morbid fascination than anything else, I suppose. These things tend to hold your attention. Best, George |

Title: Re: Sugar as a trigger? Post by Barry_T_Coles on May 19th, 2008, 12:02am Sugar doesn’t seem to be a prob with me; 3 spoons per mug of coffee times 5 mugs a day, but if I eat chocolate the Emus’ kick me dunny door down. Cheers Barry |

Title: Re: Sugar as a trigger? Post by Barry_T_Coles on May 20th, 2008, 10:24pm Old dunny, the colloquial word for an outdoor toilet near Burraga in country New South Wales, Australia. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3148/2510418682_b543b4e955.jpg?v=0 The Dunny is also know as the Out house, Loo, bog, crappa, shit house, library etc. When an Aussie wants to jokingly inflict a fate worse than death on someone they will use the phrase “I hope your chooks turn into emus’ & kick your dunny door down” As for emus’ eating chocolate, they will eat just about anything but their favourite food is the quongdong seed; a small marble sized fruit with a thin layer of flesh over a very hard round seed pod, quongdong seed also makes very good jam but only if it has been through the emus first otherwise the jam has a sour taste to it. Cheers Barry |

I cannot imagine saying "the emus kick me dunny door down" and keeping a straight face. ;;D Sugar does not affect my CH. HOWEVER, if my 10 year has too much sugar THAT can aggravate matters.
