Title: The headache from HELL..... Post by BarbaraD on Apr 29th, 2008, 1:50pm For the oldtimers who tell the newbies (and I count myself in this group) that a CH doesn't last for hours -- we may have mis-spoken.... This morning Mr. Demon woke me up bright and early with an 8-9. As of this writing - it's still NOT gone. I've done O2, Red Bull, coffee, ergotomine (twice), scalded my head in the bathtub, froze it in the shower, hot pack, ice bags -- any other suggestions. Got it down to a 5-6 a couple of times, but am back up to about an 8 again right now. I don't normally have one I can't get rid of eventually, but this one wants to hang in there. I'm at the exhaustion stage (don't think I'll bitch about arthritis again anytime soon). I've NEVER had one do this, but I'm here to tell you -- IT CAN HAPPEN... I'm on about the 10th hour right now. Hugs BD Even the dogs are staying out of my way right now. |

Title: Re: The headache from HELL..... Post by pattik on Apr 29th, 2008, 2:30pm I feel for you. Long CH attacks can, an do happen. Reading your post made me dig out my old CH diary from two years ago. One memorable attack vascillated between a level 4 and 8 for over seven hours. I think that when the so-called experts place a time frame on CH for diagnostic purposes, it's good to remember that they're just guidelines, and everyone can be a little different from the standard. Personally, I think there could be some gender differences when it comes to deviating from the "standard" attack duration. But since girls don't get CH, no one will step up and do the research. ;) It sounds like you've tried almost everything...do you have any ginger tea in the house? That might be the straw that breaks this one. Hang in there. |

Title: Re: The headache from HELL..... Post by BarbaraD on Apr 29th, 2008, 3:00pm Ok, More O2, 3 Excedrin, 2 naproxin (I know I know, but.... do as I SAY - not as I DO) right now I'm down to about a 2 and hope it stays there. This one has about done me in. May get thru this one without inflicting bodily injury on myself or anyone else. :) Hugs BD |

Yep, had a few "old-timers" insinuate that I was full of shit when I said I had a 10 that lasted over four hours. Hope you get some relief soon. |

Title: Re: The headache from HELL..... Post by jjslugdog on Apr 29th, 2008, 4:53pm Any of y'all who've not had one last hours on end should say a double "thank you God". { I think most of us say that when even a 30 minute K8-10 hit }. I'm not as brave as you, Barb. After the first 90 minutes, I'm headed to the ER to get knocked out. |

Title: Re: The headache from HELL..... Post by nani on Apr 29th, 2008, 5:15pm Yeah... I still don't think we know it all. I've had 'em last for hours. Sometimes just clusters, other times clusters and a related neuralgia that would trigger clusters (hence some serious spiking to k9 and 10) The abortives would work on the CH (feeling like it was knocking it back to a lower kip level) but not work at all on the neuraligia. Feel better, Barb. hugs, nani |

Title: Re: The headache from HELL..... Post by Argonaut on Apr 29th, 2008, 9:50pm Sorry to hear of your day, Barbara. I can relate to your experience, though. At the peak of my cycles, I'm in constant pain for at least 12 hours of my waking day. I'll have a few "proper" headaches[headaches at the 8+ KIP scale] which will last between 1-3 hours, and the rest of the time would be filled with shadows [at the 5-6 KIP scale]. If I'm lucky, I would have a few hours' of pain-free respite. I would have this experience for around two weeks, before the beast finally relinquishes its hold. It does get VERY exhausting! The best way to describe them is that I'd get "spikes" of pain [that's the 8+ KIP headaches]. |

Title: Re: The headache from HELL..... Post by BarbaraD on Apr 30th, 2008, 8:23am I'm human again today, but that's an experience I don't want again any time soon. The darn thing finally broke sometime yesterday afternoon and I think I passed out from exhaustion. In the past I've always said (when someone said their CH lasted this long) that it was probably several headaches back to back - BUT I won't say that again -- they CAN last this long... Thanks for being there - I needed the support - you guys are great. Hugs BD |

Title: Re: The headache from HELL..... Post by Superdave on Apr 30th, 2008, 6:33pm Hi BD Welcome back from hell, I've been there. Last January thought I could have a couple of whisky and cokes at a B-day party in a bar with a great band playing. It was the worst ch experiance I ever had and I'll never forget it, or will I ever drink liquor again. Took a good 20 hours to be able to sleep :-[ A few weeks later I found this website :) Hugs Your Way Superdave |
