Title: just for fun Post by kevmd on Mar 28th, 2008, 9:43pm Can we come up with a list of stupid shit people have told you to help with your headaches. I'll start it with #1 My mom has told me for 12 years to sleep with the vaporizer on. I comment was, "what the hell is that going to do when I am getting hit in the middle of the day" I could go on with others but wouldn't want to take someone else's brilliant idea. I was given all kinds of advice on Easter sunday by a bunch of idiots |

Title: Re: just for fun Post by George_J on Mar 28th, 2008, 9:59pm Early on, before I was diagnosed, I had an optometrist tell me that the headaches were caused by astigmatism and eye strain. He had me enter into a program of "eye exercises" that would supposedly correct this. (I was about 14. ) Basically, the apparatus looked something like this: http://physics.kenyon.edu/EarlyApparatus/Optical_Recreations/Stereoscopes/Greenslade53a.JPG ....with the difference that you could adjust the distance between the two pictures. The "exercises" consisted of putting the images farther and farther apart, making yourself go snake-eyed, and crossing your eyes until the images coalesced into a single stereo image. I got pretty good at it. To this day, I can still watch a 3-D movie without the special glasses. Needless to say, it didn't cure the headaches. Best, George |

Title: Re: just for fun Post by Peaches on Mar 28th, 2008, 10:21pm LOL Yes! I was told "oh, it's probably just stress because you've not been getting enough sleep lately" Uh yeah, I've not been getting enough sleep because I've been getting CL's 5 X's a night for 3 months! I'm much better now that I'm on Depakote and take an iced sweet(ish)- with caffine drink to bed with me at night. |

Title: Re: just for fun Post by sandie99 on Mar 29th, 2008, 4:46am Ok, here's mine: My mother used to tell me: "have a donut" to pretty much every problem, including ch. ::) I quit eating donuts and other similar stuff four yeas ago. It took my mother longer to get that, but I believe that finally she understands that a can of energy drink helps me a lot more with ch! ;) Sanna |

Title: Re: just for fun Post by coach_bill on Mar 29th, 2008, 9:50am well, my mom told me to try to stand on my head for 10 minutes each night before i went to bed. she said it would let all the blood rush to my head, and as i slept it would slowly go back to normal wiping out the headache. didnt work ma. coach bill |

Title: Re: just for fun Post by brewcrew on Mar 29th, 2008, 2:40pm Anybody notice a common thread here? With the exception of two so far, everybody's advice came from their mom. And it was bad. |

Title: Re: just for fun Post by LivingBarometer on Mar 30th, 2008, 10:41am This one is really stupid :) When I was at work and didn't know I had CH yet I thought it had something to do with the draft at work(at that point I didn't even know that draft could be a trigger but I felt it was related to my pain) So I said to my chef;"I think I've been getting these pains because of the draft out here I can feel there's draft I can feel it In my ears",so he said"well put ear plugs in then"! Well the draft also comes in my nose,just imagine seeing me walking at work with earplugs in my ears and In my nose :) Oh man-o-man-o-man... |

Title: Re: just for fun Post by kevmd on Mar 30th, 2008, 3:12pm I have to say George, you made me laugh. What the hell is that thing???? Looks like something Jacque Cousteu would have used to take pictures of sharks with ....LOL |
||
Title: Re: just for fun Post by Karla on Mar 30th, 2008, 3:22pm Try magnets, banana peels over the eyes, "just dont think about them so much and they will go away. You worry to much." coidal silver, colon cleansing, inner ear folliclules causing a brain imbalance thus causing my pain. ETC ETC |

Title: Re: just for fun Post by CostaRicaKris on Mar 30th, 2008, 3:28pm I started getting my clusters after my mom passed away from pancreatic cancer. So, my grandmother said to me "maybe your ponytails are too tight" George - I love that yours comes with a picture ~Kris |

Title: Re: just for fun Post by kevmd on Mar 30th, 2008, 3:28pm awesome with the magnets Karla. I had them given to me and needless to say, it didn't do a dam thing. When I woke in the middle of the night with an attack, I threw it across the room. Also......hipnosis, chiropracter, biofeed back. But the best was again from Mom..."You need to get a grip on these headaches" You can't curse at Mom but I almost did when she said that. arggghh!!!!! How do you grip a friggin headache. Anyone????? |

Title: Re: just for fun Post by coach_bill on Mar 30th, 2008, 4:59pm "Pull it togather or just shake it off". "this headache thing of yours is getting to be a pain in the ass". "You better not be faking this because i never seen people act like that before". "Im not paying $62.00 for those pills to stop your little headaches." "jesus not again!! you always do this shit when my show is coming on". These are only a few of the things i listened to over the years. So when my boss asked me 2 months ago " Bill are you sure this time zone thing isnt just wraped up in your own MIND". I thought of a way to explain, and when it was in the plain dealer newspaper last week i showed him the report and said " See boss it's not in my HEAD, it's in my HEAD!!. coach bill |

Title: Re: just for fun Post by beachmusic on Apr 8th, 2008, 7:25am I am just LMAO at each and every one of these stupid theories people come up with. Nobody gets it till they live through an attack. I perosonally haven't been given any really dumb advice but just about anyone I have ever told that I get these things responds with "oh yeah me too" ;) ;) |

Title: Re: just for fun Post by BarbaraD on Apr 9th, 2008, 8:34am "You just need to soak your feet in HOT water!" This little tidbit came from an IRS auditor during an audit... Seems her son gets these things and that's what he does. NOTE: She's no LONGER with the IRS - seems they had a little probem with her giving out medical advice! (I can be such a bitch when I'm getting hit!)And her "cure" didn't work anyhow. :) Hugs BD |

That can actually help with a regular vascular/tension headache. Heat up the tissue in your feet, blood is drawn away from the head. Not suggesting any of us might get any relief that way, however. Title: Re: just for fun Post by Sandy_C on Apr 9th, 2008, 11:01am When I first started getting these "headaches" I was 53 years old and my Mom was long gone. I have no siblings, so I relied on my bestest and dearest friends for advice. Every blasted one of them either said "I get those too", or "take Excedrin and lie down in a dark room". My replies were "no you don't", and "I can't". Then, they all had the pleasure of witnessing a full blown hit. They no longer give me advice and they are still my bestest and dearest friends. Sandy |

Title: Re: just for fun Post by sgarner on Apr 9th, 2008, 1:51pm My wife and sister in law both think all I have to do is change the lightbulbs from fluorescent to something else and limit my use on the computer. Long story short - two things are staying - the fluorescent light and computer use (especially since it is part of my profession). |

Title: Re: just for fun Post by rbmb on Apr 9th, 2008, 4:26pm My wife insisted that I try the pillow with magnets in it because she heard it cures HAs, so I did just to make her happy. Needless to say, it did nothing. Rich |

Title: Re: just for fun Post by Argonaut on Apr 11th, 2008, 7:58am That eye apparatus is a classic ;;D The funniest thing I was told to help my headaches was to drink more by a bunch of friends while at a brewery. They insisted that I was getting headaches because I wasn't drink enough. Since I do like to drink, I followed their advice - then promptly had a KIP 10 headache and made a public spectacle of myself ;;D |
||
Title: Re: just for fun Post by msussman on Apr 11th, 2008, 8:45am I started getting these HAs in undergrad, when I was dating a really sweet hippy girl who loved the herbal alternative treatments... Hippy girlfriend: "Do you see this one kind of plant that's growing over here in the field?" http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/31/Primula_veris_230405.jpg/240px-Primula_veris_230405.jpg (cowslip) "Just rub some on your temples when you start to get a headache." Verdict: Headaches 1, Hippy girlfriend 0. |

Title: Re: just for fun Post by darknight on Apr 11th, 2008, 9:47am i do like the hippy alternative, i was given one of those migraine releif forehead patches and was told by a friend thatll do the trick. Not to dissapoint that evening i tried it on my forhead as i was starting to have an attack first 5 mins were fine cool soothing then by the 7th minute it caused an irritation with my skin and started to burn, Great i thought the burning irritation took my mind off the headache for maybe 10 mins before i was back beating it my own way!! |

Yeah, go with colloidal silver! It won't help the CH, but it can make you turn blue. Then you could be "Clusterhead Smurf." I always thought the smurfs needed one more girl (I imagine smurfette is scared shitless when they all start drinking). |

Title: Re: just for fun Post by Crappy on Apr 12th, 2008, 2:26am The stupidest suggestion I was given, after clicking an ad that said "Cluster Cure," was Sinus Busters nasal spray. I got so excited after reading their site that I called every health food store to find one that carried it, rushed out and bought it, and ran to my car in the parking lot since I was having an attack. I snorted half the bottle, then ended up coughing that shit out of my car door in the middle of the mall parking lot until I threw up. Other than confusing a few passersby, and eyes watering for 30 minutes, it had no effect. Sorry in advance for the one person out there who might get some help from that worthless quack product. |

Title: Re: just for fun Post by darknight on Apr 14th, 2008, 7:50am went out for dinner with a few people and began to feel a head coming on and excused myself. after grabbing some cold BRITISH air i felt better and carried on with desert where someone suggested that if i would of eaten my carrots my head may of been fine. After restraing myself from hurling my desert at him i simply said. Thank you for your valuable input im going to have to leave and inform the world you have sold the Clusterhead problem CARROTS, the sarcasm/irony was caught and not mentioned again although we all did have a good laugh!!! LOL |

Carrots??! ;;D Oh my oh my... If carrots would be accurate "cure" for ch, I would have never got it; I've had LOTS of them over the years - my friends actually joke that eating carrots is the *real* reason why my hair is red... ;) Sanna |

Title: Re: just for fun Post by darknight on Apr 14th, 2008, 10:18am Hi Sanna, I know first as a kid my mum tells me if i eat carrots i will be able to see in the dark now lack of carrots are causing clusterheadaches lol!! Title: Re: just for fun Post by Crappy on Apr 16th, 2008, 12:42am I just finished a kip 8-9 about 25 minutes ago. Toward the tail end, my wife broke my rule and came outside. I was still wimpering, and gave her the look that says "I don't need spectators." She said, "do you want a blow-job?" I meant to just say "no" nicely, because it was a nice sentiment, but it still came out as a scream. Oh well, she knows better than to open the door when I'm out there. God, I sure wish she gave rain checks. |

Title: Re: just for fun Post by George_J on Apr 16th, 2008, 2:09am Incidentally, don't try one of these: http://www.specialtymedicalsupply.com/files/images/orthopedic/HOMMWMHC_PRD.jpg I did...on the recommendation of a friend. It may have been intended to create a soothing warmth, but it made me feel like this: http://www.geocities.com/imokproductions/HannibalCloseupMask.jpg Cold good, heat bad. Live and learn. Best, George |
