Title: What other than Red Bull
Post by Peaches on Feb 13th, 2008, 12:03pm
After reading all the posts about the use of Red Bull it sounds like it's the energy drink of choice for most. Good to know it works. But, I don't want to consume all those calories if there's any way around it. Is there anything else readily available on the market that would do the same result but with all that sugar and calories?

Thanks,
Peaches

Rock Star, Amp, Full Throttle, Rip-it....all have a diet alternative. Personally I cannot stand the taste of Red Bull. Rock Star (diet) is so much better.

I forgot to welcome you. Hope by being here and reading all the links and our stories that we can be of help to you.

Here is a list of many sugar free energy drinks.

http://taurinerules.blogspot.com/2006/08/sugar-free-ranking.html

This guys reviews start with the "Looks" of the can, however there is good information about the drink.
You may have to look a bit deeper to find information about some of the ingredients in them, but usually he lists the taurine and caffeine content - at least it's a place to start.

Welcome Peaches, there are alot of alternatives! Many more energy drinks than I ever dreamed of.

Straight up strong, black coffee can work quite well, but the energy drinks may be more effective. It seems the taurine and inositol in the energy drinks seem to work to magnify the effect of the caffeine.

If you are worried about the sugar in these drinks, have a look at the news. It seems that artificial sweeteners can actually causes you to gain weight. (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23097135/) [smiley=JAW_DROP.gif]

Not that any of them taste good, but the so-called diet/sugar free drinks are shag-ass nasty [smiley=hurl.gif] and are likely having the opposite of the intended effect on your waist line.

Life is a terminal disease resulting in death. Enjoy it while you can. [smiley=grin2.gif] [smiley=wave.gif]

Nooooo, I don't do "diet" anything either. YUCK! And yes, the budget is a consideration too.
Coffee I've got now to figure out how to get those other ingredients like taurine in it to give it the kicker.
Thanks for the website and for sharing the advice.

Peaches,

I've tried many different kinds of energy drinks (many of them taste the same!), which varied what came to price and sugar content, but not what comes to the amount of caffeine and taurine. They all worked.

My advice: if you want to use energy drinks, try the one which fits your preferences - but has the same amount of caffeine and taurine than Red Bull.

I also use caffeine tablets; they help as well.

I like zipfizz (powder). Only 10 cals and actually tastes good. I like the pink lemonade flavor the best, but they all taste good enough that I'd drink them even if wasn't looking for a caffine boost. It's annoying to have to mix the powder with water before drinking, but the portability of the little capsule of powder makes up for it.
