Title: O2 in the shower????
Post by speedbagger on Jan 9th, 2008, 7:54pm
Hi all,

I've found that as well as O2 hot showers often work really well for me but often one works when the other doesn't.

Has anyone ever used the O2 whilst in the shower?  Does water getting into the bag on the mask cause problems?  I'm thinking fluid on the lungs or something.

I find sometimes i'll spend half an hour on the oxygen with little relief then struggle to get to the shower.  Once i'm under the hot water it goes relatively quickly, vise versa sometimes the shower does nothing so i get out of there and get on the oxygen and it goes away so i've been thinking that if i use the O2 whilst in the shower it might be 'my' magic mix of aborting them every time.  Who knows??? As most of you will agree, we'll try anything once.

Anyone ever tried it or knows of any dangers with doing this?

Hello,

A half hour of being on O2 is too long.  You shouldn't be breathing it for longer than 20 minutes per attack.  Does your regulator have a high flow rate of at least 15 liters per minute?

To answer your question, yes, there are many who have breathed O2 while in the shower.  Just make sure you have a hose long enough and don't get it caught in the shower door (if you have one).

Even worse is when the hose knocks your beer over.  It's a devil to get it back up the drain.

Hi Speed,

Moisture will affect the performance of valves on your mask.  This happens normally because you exhale moisture when you breath.  Using the mask in the shower will cause issues sooner.

However a little extra maintanence should keep the valves in good working order.  Be sure to watch for mold in the air bag.  This will show up as small (but growing) dots inside the bag.   If this happens discard and replace the bag or the entire mask. You don't want to be breathing mold.

A good set of instructions on cleaning procedures and loads of other good O2 info can be found in the Supplemental O2 Guide on the OUCH-US site here:

Good luck...

You'l never ever know if you dont give it a go.
If it works for you then great, if it doesn't then you can't be accused of not trying.

Good luck
Barry

man do i miss drinking beer. i have noticed that a shower helps when i am at a kip2 to a kip6. beyond that nothing really helps except strait o2. the other day i mixed the 2 and i used a nostril breather and stuck it in my mouth. that didn't seem to help much but it was a heavy attack. it's hard for me to find my clothes and try to take a shower with the lights out and my eyes closed whilst i am screaming and crying. moister and hot steam help sometimes but hot dry air are a trigger for me.
