Title: CH and dental work Post by kcopelin on Nov 7th, 2007, 7:52pm So, I have always been a wimp about going to the dentist. But I have totally avoided them since going chronic almost three years ago. Really afraid that I'll get hit while in the chair...laying down is never a good idea for me. Any thoughts on this? Nitrous oxide? I have an appointment on Tuesday. Would appreciate any input... thanks PFDAN y'all kathy |

Title: Re: CH and dental work Post by Chillrmn1 on Nov 8th, 2007, 6:02am hi kathy, If you're going to need a local anesthetic - Xylocaine with EPI triggered attacks for me. I had no problems with Citanest (prilocaine) without EPI. I haven't used Nitrous Oxide but I think I remember others saying it triggered them. Hope this helps. |

Title: Re: CH and dental work Post by Charlotte on Nov 8th, 2007, 8:29am I found that I have some bad hits after dental appointments. The hits seem more related to the drive than the dental visit, as I come across the Altamont Pass, in between Tracy and Livermore, and the trigger seems directly related to the barrometric pressure during the drive. I hope your appointment went well, Kathy. You are a cute munchkin and you want those choppers working. love, Charlotte |

Title: Re: CH and dental work Post by kcopelin on Nov 8th, 2007, 5:37pm ;;D Got a survey from the dentist today-to be filled out and brought into the visit. This is fun-not. I am less concerned with the novacaine as I am with laying down-its such a trigger for me. Thanks so much for your answers.... One of the questions is "Do you like your smile?" Yes, except the droppiness caused by Horners syndrome. I like my sense of humor better. If nothing else, the dentist will be educated about CH. Am taking a pamplet, courtesy of Linda, and my cluster masx and O2 set-up in. Even though its not working for me-it does get people's attention. PFDAN y'all, kathy |

Title: Re: CH and dental work Post by BarbaraD on Nov 9th, 2007, 7:01am One of the side effects of the gas is "headaches" -- I've always avoided it. Needles are safer.... But I do "warn" the nice dentist that I have CH and if I tell him that we are having an attack that he'd best get me some O2 and get the hell out of my way for a little while. Hugs BD |

Title: Re: CH and dental work Post by sandie99 on Nov 9th, 2007, 10:28am Kathy, I'm supposed to see my dentist this fall, but I keep on delaying it, because I'm not that fond of dentists ever since the beast returned after one dentist appointment... :-X I mean, who would want to pay to get back in cycle?! not me... if I can avoid it. Title: Re: CH and dental work Post by kcopelin on Nov 15th, 2007, 12:09am Sanna, you need to take Linda H. along for support. I am happy to report that: 1. I showed up for the appointment because Linda and her Caliente showed up at my home. 2. Linda had the foresight to bring a cold pack (a bazillion thanks and hugs, my friend) 3. Only got hit a little-cold pack & pacing helped. 4. Intrestingly enough, the dental hygienist also has "bad" headaches. ::) ::) Linda fortunately did not need stiches for her tongue. 5. The dentist seemed to know quite a bit about clusters (will take a couple of brochures next time) and he does have O2 that comes right of the wall (if that don't beat all) 6. My teeth are all nice and clean. ;;D PFDAN y'all, kathy Oh, and my next appointment isn't until 2008 ;;D ;;D |

Title: Re: CH and dental work Post by sandie99 on Nov 15th, 2007, 3:14am Kathy, good for you! :) That was so great of Linda, wow. :) My last dentist was a tiny man who has this silent voice -I can't tell what he's saying half of the time. It's annoying when he asks something, but nicely narcotic when it's time to pull wisdom teeth out. [smiley=laugh.gif] He actually knows about my ch and back at my med days he even wrote all of them to my file just in case. :) Sanna |

Title: Re: CH and dental work Post by stgeorge1 on Nov 21st, 2007, 3:02am This sort of freaked me out. I just started up with monster CH's after 3 years in remission. I have ITP and after taking LOTs of prednizone and unable to have dental work due to the excessive bleeding related to ITP, my teeth are litterally falling out. Now I need extensive work but and have an eval next week but after reading this i'm going to make sure that the dentist knows I'm having CH's. |

Title: Re: CH and dental work Post by scamrtst on Dec 5th, 2007, 4:08pm Hi Cathy, Yesterday, I acually had 2 fillings replaced on the Cluster Side of my mouth. 11AM is normally a CH time for me but I found that being on novacaine really diminished the severity and instead of a five it was only a shadow.
