Title: Hit or not........?
Post by Shedz on Nov 3rd, 2007, 7:34pm
My cycle started about 3 weeks ago, I've been getting the usuall shadows and low hits and this last 2 weeks its been ramping up, but... On Monday I was hit with a K8, used 02, Imigran but with little or no effect. This lasted from 2pm until 9pm. I've had CH for 10 years now but have NEVER had this happen before. Freak hit, or............? I have spoken to my GP and another cluster buddy but am open to any thoughts.

    Thank you.

                      Paul.

Thats one hell of a ride bro... [smiley=hug.gif]

I'm kinda thinking its not a ch attack (sorry)

Bad migraine ?! or maybe something else ?

I'm just thinking it don't sound like a ch because it lasted so long and 02 and trex didn't help, but then again trex works for migraines so..........

Erm i'm gonna google that i think it is and let you know...

I'll get back to you, hope some wise people will be along soon and help you out..

hang in there buddy

Paul,

The one thing I have learned abou the beast is, once you think you have him figured out, he switches it up on you.

Kip 8 for 7 hours?  I don't know.  It sounds like you may have got hit with a ch with a migraine to finish it off.  If I had a ch for longer than 2-3 hours, I would go insane from the pain.

Keep fighting and never give up.

Hugs and pf wishes,
Beth

Beth is sooo right...unfortunately.

This ever-changing crap....is enough to make you crazy.

I have to agree about having a kip8....for SEVEN hours straight and being ALIVE to tell about it???...doesn't sound right.

Im not saying that you can't go on and on for hours...but the intensity drops sporadically, even if it's just a tiny bit...then ramps back up.  Being in such a high-pitched level of pain for that many hours?  It has to be something else.

I do hope you find out WHAT it is my friend.   Sherri

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm thinkin a hit followed by a migraine is the most plausible answer........
I know that a hit never lasts that long, I'm just wonderin what did happen????
Beast hit me at 5 this mornin just to remind me he still loves me in his own special way >:(

Around 20 years ago I went through a faze for a few years where each cycle gave me a kip 7-8 once a day for about 6 hours. That was before I had any meds. Even now, if I dont take a jab, they can last at least 4 hours. 2 hours has been the shortest I have ever had without meds. Long attacks can happen. I have only had two occasions when a jab hasn't worked, but it has happened.

I agree that it sounded like a hit followed by a migraine or tension headache. My husband had one like that but he said the pain was different. Initially it was a heavy shadow then it rammed up to a K7 or K8 very intense so he was rocking and crying for about 30 mins or so then it reduced to about a K3 but never went away completely. It stayed it K 3 for about 2 hours then rammed up again to about a K 5 but this time he said the pain was different, it wasnt really drilling or boring behind the eye but it was more on the left temple ( he is a leftie ) with a heavy sensation behind the eye. He also had blurry vision and felt nauseated. This one didnt respond to trex or oxygen and went on for another 4 hours or so before slowly fading away. He could sit still with it though, wasnt rocking and crying ( no tears from the affected eye ) like the first pain.

We asked our neuro and he reckoned it was a CH with a lingering shadow followed by a migraine. That was not fun I tell you !  :-/

Hey Paul,

What you describe was my normal pattern before I had O2, energy drinks and Red Bull to fight with.  I would get slammed with a K-8/9/10.  That hit can last anywhere from 1-2 hours.  After that the pain defuses a bit and reduces slightly in intensity to K-6/7 range, stays on the same side and lasts another 8-10 hours.  Call it migraine, call it tension HA, whatever.  It isn't the beast but something triggered by the beast.

It took me a long time to differentiate between the two.  There is a crossover I've been able to detect.  It's a point where you loose the urge to pace and rock and scream.  Beyond that the pain comes in waves with peaks and valleys ramping up and back down again till finally, gratefully it just disappears - as if it was never there.

I hope you don't get another one.  Having said all that, I don't get them like this now that I've got my arsenal in order.  So that is a bit weird.

Could it have been a rebound from Imitrex?  How hard were you getting hit before that and what had you used?

Hang in there bro.

I agree with Dennis.

I had a 10 last night, lasted an hour, but then left me with the pain, but at about a 5, no tearing or runny nose, no rocking, just pain.

IMHO it is nerve pain following a bad CH attack. You can of course then have another hit while you still have referred nerve pain.

It probably all seems to roll into one 7 hour hit, but it isn't. I can empathise with you, it's awful.

Never give in, take it a day at a time, it WILL pass.

Good Luck.

Steve

Cheers all, it hasn't happened since, so i'm hoping it was a freak one off incident.
CH appears back to normal now ( not that its a good thing), but at least I know how to deal with it ::)
  Thanks for your oppinions ;;D
Wishing you all some PF time,

                                                    Paul ;;D
