Title: Chronic pain & depression Post by sandie99 on Oct 8th, 2007, 11:11am I got this article from Beliefnet mailing list. It's not directly about ch, but interesting read for anyone who has to deal with ch and depression at once. Here's the link: http://www.beliefnet.com/healthandhealing/getcontent.aspx?cid=38223&WT.mc_id=NL44 Apparently the whole article is too long to copy... PF wishes, Sanna |

Title: Re: Chronic pain & depression Post by Vanster on Oct 9th, 2007, 4:39pm Chronic pain and depression often go hand in hand. If one is suffering from both, a Rx for an antidepressant might be helpful and some have the benefit of reducing CH pain (or at least make it easier to handle and have more of a normal life). |

Title: Re: Chronic pain & depression Post by clusterwife on Oct 11th, 2007, 9:09pm My hubby has responded very well to the Lyrica. He takes 150mg twice daily with good results. It also helps his depression and helps to calm him too. Good luck, Leah. |

Title: Re: Chronic pain & depression Post by Miz_D on Oct 12th, 2007, 6:11am I have tried 2 antidepressants (Celexa & Wellbutrin) and for me, I didn't realy notice any change in my mood. I mean, I knew I was depressed because I was a chronic CH sufferer and back then I was still looking for a magic cocktail to give me a little relief. What did finally work on my depression was 1080mg of Verapamil with Topomax and a Prednisone taper! I felt ecstatic after that! ::) I think though that whether they help medicinally or psychologically, if its working for you than that's all that matters. Sometimes just hanging in there is the best we can do :) |

Title: Re: Chronic pain & depression Post by sandie99 on Oct 12th, 2007, 1:21pm Prednisone taper gave me little mania... ;;D I slept just 5 hours and were bit toooo happy. [smiley=laugh.gif] I recall those days sometimes with a smile. ;;D Sanna |

Title: Re: Chronic pain & depression Post by Paula on Oct 12th, 2007, 7:42pm Schaan, I hope you have a good nuro you can discuss these things with. Everyone is so very different when it comes to medication for anything that you need a doctor you can trust and talk very openly to. I am Lucky I have both a GP and a Nuro whom I trust myself with. You should be able to also be open with them, that you don't like something or are not comfortable with it or want a second opinion or want to research it more. Good doctors are very important. My thinking anyway! |

Title: Re: Chronic pain & depression Post by sandie99 on Nov 11th, 2007, 12:33pm I'm glad that you like it, Katherine. :) Sherri, I've taken pred in Finland (the mania one) and in UK (depression one), so it changes for some reason. What comes to topomax, it made my life worse. I got chs, I got constant HA, I turned into living zombie, dreadful! I never ever want to take that one again, it doesn't suit me. Sanna |

Title: Re: Chronic pain & depression Post by sldrswyfe on Nov 11th, 2007, 4:03pm Topamax was made in hell. Within fifteen mins after taking it, my heart was racing, I was restless and edgy. Then I turned into a zombie...I couldn't think or do anything else really. But couldn't sleep either. It was only 25mg at bedtime. I tried it for a few months, it didn't help with pain and the side effects were awful, so I finally discontinued it. |

Title: Re: Chronic pain & depression Post by txbeck on Nov 11th, 2007, 4:40pm Topamax at 100mg works great for me. I had some mild tremors the first few weeks, but they disappeared completely along with any other side effects except for the aversion to carbonated drinks. Since that was a habit I needed to break I can't really complain about it. Now I drink buckets of water and no Diet Cokes. What's not to like about that. I've had nothing worse than shadows so far since beginning Topamax in June. Fingers crossed. |

Title: Re: Chronic pain & depression Post by Shedz on Nov 12th, 2007, 5:16am I'm currently on 60mg of Cipramil a day for depression and now in cycle. My Dr says the Imigran injection will slightly reduce the effectivness of the Cipramil but not enough for the depression to take hold again. As far as i'm concerned this is a risk i'm willing to take. Hope this is of some use, PF wishes to all, Paul ;;D |
