Title: Has anyone tried.......
Post by ClusterChris on Aug 17th, 2007, 9:32am
Has anyone tried one of those tubes with the little extensions that go in your nostrils for the o2? If o2 gives us such great results to abort, would it not work if we slept with one of those on @ say 2 or 3 lpm?? Just a thought, Please let me know is anyone has givin this a shot!

Chris,

I have tried using the nasal canula (sp?) before--sometimes I would use mostly the mask but then try the nasal canula for a few minutes if the mask wasn't doing the trick and it would help at times--but I think this was at a time when I (unknowingly) did not have right oxygen flow.  The most important thing for you to do is make sure you have the right oxygen flow and the right mask--once that's in place if the nasal canula helps you then definitely use that option--sometimes it kind of gets in the air in there at a different angle that seems to help.  As far as sleeping with it on, I've never tried that, that would be interesting to know if it would help, maybe someone on here has tried that--find out first, don't use up any of you oxygen!  Anyway, pain free wishes, Star

My guess would be no it wouldn't work. The oxygen keeps the arteries from doing their expansion thing during an attack. To accomplish that requires 100% oxygen to really make those babies constrict. That's why most don't find relief using the nasal canulas because you get too much outside air and the constrictive effect isn't enough to stop the expansion.

I've heard of people doing the hyperbaric chambers the thinking being that saturating the body with 02 might stop attacks. haven't read much success there either. Good luck with the cycle, may it be a short one for you!

Long-term exposure to pure O2 can damage the tissue of the lungs.
