Well I tried, but got hit hard,big mistake,live and learn.It's been since New Years since my last beer.We had company we were all swimming having a great time so I thought I'd give it a shot it sucks that I can't have a couple of brewskis,oh well not the end of the world,theres always heroin LOL.

Same results, wine also. If you drink enough it it seems OK though. Problem there is enough is too much.

In years past, we have had many conversations on this subject with some folks reporting that even smelling a solvent would trigger an attack--didn't have to drink alcohol.

Several years ago, an interesting report from Europe, to the effect that white wine didn't trigger an attack for many Chs but that red would. Distilled spirits were killers.

I think Dave was tempted over to the "Dark Side" for a moment in his humor. I'll forgive him.

There are some alcohol free beers, O'Dells, or something like that. Maybe that would be an alternative for social situations.

Anyone have any experience with those?

I know Bob. I also know that he was probably using his dark humor. However, my youngest son is killing himself very fast with this drug and any day now my phone is going to ring and it will be from the L.A. County Coroner, So I'm just a tad touchy on this particular subject.

Since I got ch, I've become pretty much absolutist. Then again, I've never liked the taste of alcohol that much, so giving it up has not been a big deal for me. It's the others who seem to have more problems with my sobriety, though. It's funny that this day and age one still should need an excuse NOT to drink... ::)

a few years back when i had a cycle , i drank wiskey and seven up, always got hit hard ,just if i had one, i switched to rum and dietcoke, just to save on caleries. my last cycle ,i drank off and on and had no problems.and this last cycle only had conflict with it causing a hit during my peek time. you would think alcohal is just that , in any form , but apparently not. ;) :)

I gave up beer for about 12 or 13 years - about 1/2 a beer and wham -- it just wasn't worth it. Then about a year ago I tried one and NOTHING.... So now I have an occasional beer. Go figure.

It's hard to sit and watch people drinking a cold one while your mouth is watering for one, but when you think of the pain it will cause -- well..... it just ain't worth it.

It's a choice you gotta make.

Hi everyone, this is my first post here. I'm so glad to find others out there that understand my fustration, pain, and exhaustion. I've been having CH's for about 17 years now, usually about 1 -2 cycles a year that last 3-5 weeks of 1-4 ha's/day.

For the record, I Love Beer! I hear people say that it's a trigger for them, but not so for me. If i'm in a cycle I get woke up by the beast weather or not I've had beer. Sometimes in a cycle I say F it and have a bunch while having a good time with the fellows and sleep through the night. I just don't find it to be any sort of trigger for me and if I'm going to be woken up by great pain at night, might as well enjoy during the day/evening.

PS. I'm so glad to have found this site! Look forward to all of your experiences and being able to learn from each other.

Hey Dave,

Your humor is ok with me...alot of us have some difficult things to deal with, and to realize others have no idea and meant nothing personal...it's when it's a personal attack that it's bad. I clearly see that wasn't your intention.

Im sorry you tried to "join the party" when you were having fun, I've tried too, but it never worked for me either. :-[

It's just a "no can do" situation. Sorry about it just the same.
