Title: Pregnancy & CH Post by simplevox on Jul 26th, 2007, 2:53pm Hola! I am 34 and have had CH for 13 years now. I am on Verapamil, Cymbalta and Keppra. My husband and I are planning to try to get pregnant this year. I am wondering if any other clusterheads stay on their medications while pregnant or if you have to go off of eveything... I know I need to talk to my Neuro about it, but I want to know what others are doing in the real world. Thanks for any info!! |

Title: Re: Pregnancy & CH Post by Rosybabe on Jul 26th, 2007, 5:02pm The only med I could take was O2, maybe motrin but that does not help with CH's. You have also to do a detox before you get pregnant because a lot of meds stay in your blood and they can affect the baby's development. Please talk to your Dr. about this He is the only one who can tell you what you can take or what not. Good Luck and Happy Pregnancy!! Rosy. |

Title: Re: Pregnancy & CH Post by nani on Jul 26th, 2007, 7:04pm I think it would be wise to talk to your neuro and your ob-gyn. I do know that the safest abortive during pregnancy is oxygen. Good luck. pain free wishes, nani |

Title: Re: Pregnancy & CH Post by lionsound on Jul 26th, 2007, 10:55pm Oxygen was pretty much all I used when pregnant as well. Keppra, anticonvulsant, is a definate dangerous no no and you really need to ask about the cymbalta and the verapamil...I would not take them. I think Verapamil is sometimes allowed if you are actualy taking it for a blood pressure condition. I was on a similar concoction and i know that you CAN'T STOP COLD TURKEY either. It's dangerous. So please ask your neurologist and OB how to slowly deecrease the amounts to detox. you are very smart in thinking about this in advance. Be well and PF! -lionsound |

Title: Re: Pregnancy & CH Post by skyy on Jul 29th, 2007, 9:48pm I was on topamax before we decided to get pregnant, but I felt that I would rather suffer the headaches than worry about my child's development. I did get a cluster right before I got pregnant. I dealt with it as best I could. The other thing I've noticed is this is the first cluster I've had since I was pregnant 18 months ago. Good luck! |

Title: Re: Pregnancy & CH Post by WOMANINPAIN on Jul 31st, 2007, 8:20am Hi, I am new here. I thought I would share that I just had my third baby in March, and I did go off all meds and just used o2. I had one really bad hit and ended up in ER for IV treatment during pregnancy. That was good for me to be PF for so long. I am now back in the vicious cycle again, had to stop nursing so I can get back onto Topamax. Best of luck to you, hopefully you will have a nice PF pregnancy |

Title: Re: Pregnancy & CH Post by Putter on Aug 1st, 2007, 2:22pm For me, I didn't get clusters while I was pregnant - I know I was lucky. When I stopped nursing after baby #1, the clusters started. I thought it would be the same for baby # 2, but the beast hit while I was nursing. I had to stop, (two weeks ago) so I could try other meds. I started Verapamil this morning. There is an organization through the Toronto Hospital for Sick Children called Motherisk. My doctor told me to contact them to see the impact the drugs would have on the baby through the breastmilk. They also report on the impact the drugs have on the fetus. You can check the website at www.motherisk.org Good luck. |
