Title: 11 years and they're BACK!!!! Post by Debbie1 on Jul 20th, 2007, 7:25pm I am new to this site but certainly not to CH. I'm a 53 yr old female. I had my first one 32 years ago the day I brought my first son home from the hospital. I had him C-section under general. First they gave me codeine. Then a doc started Sancert., Worked well but lots of side effects. Finally Prednisone, Verapimille and O2. Back then I was seasonal, every two years and they'd last for almost 3 months at a time. Then poof they stopped. As the years passed I thought I was FREE. On 6/25 I underwent surgery for an almost 100% blocked corotid artery. In recovery over night and had my first one although I was so drugged I didn't connect it. Then this Monday at 5:58am BANG- here we go again!!! So far I've had 2 more full blown, yesterday 4:38am and today 4:36am. Imitrex injections helping the big ones and O2 helping to abort. I'm going to try to go to Jefferson Hospital headache clinic in Phila asap since I have high blood pressure and am on meds for that don't know if I can add the Verapimille. 11YEARS!!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS!!!!! >:( :-[ [smiley=huh.gif] |

Title: Re: 11 years and they're BACK!!!! Post by George_J on Jul 20th, 2007, 7:58pm After 11 years? That just flat isn't fair at all. I wonder....was the blockage in the carotid artery on the cluster side? If so, could it be that the reduced blood flow in that artery kept you from getting the symptoms of an attack for all that time? Purely speculation. Sorry you're getting nailed again. Best wishes, George |

Title: Re: 11 years and they're BACK!!!! Post by Debbie1 on Jul 20th, 2007, 8:05pm Hey George, that's exactly what I told the vascular surgeon. I have new and improved blood flow so maybe it woke uo those vascular veins in my head! And yes, same side - always left. |

Title: Re: 11 years and they're BACK!!!! Post by Jimi on Jul 20th, 2007, 10:24pm That is some kinda unfair. I have been pain-free since 2000. I am 58. Clusters actually come from the combination of the vessels constricting and dialating. My theory is that my vessels are so clogged up that they don't dialate anymore. So what has happened to you would fall under that theory. Of course when I think of ClusterChuck, that theory goes out the window. ;) |

Title: Re: 11 years and they're BACK!!!! Post by Cesare on Jul 31st, 2007, 3:51am Nothing surprise me anymore with CH. I am 49 years old, look at my pattern: 1987 - First CH shows up - One week mild attacks 1991 - Second time - 1 month and a half - Misdiagnosed until almost the very end of the cycle. 1998 - 7 years after came back - Lasted (with some remission periods) almost one year. Neurologist thought I was getting cronic. Ended in summer 1999. Verapamil and Imigran used. 2005 - Back after 7 years - Lasted almost 3 months. Imigran and Cafergot 2007 - Started end of June, looks like I'm at cycle peak now. I'm on 480 mg/day Verapamil and Imigran injections 2 times/day. Any logic in this? Thanks for all your helpfull and interesting posts. Take care, ciao Cesare |
