Title: Well, it's official
Post by DennisM1045 on Jun 25th, 2007, 7:39am
After 21 pain free days (which I truly appreciated) I woke up with a K6 this morning.  O2 chased most of it away.  Still fighting a shadow but I'm functional - mostly.  The Dr said my diagnosis would be official if O2 worked.  It did.  Thank God.

While my typical three week vacation from the beast is  over today, I'm not sure if this is really the start of a new cycle or just a reaction to one of my major triggers.  My 16 y/o daughter decided to lie about sleeping at a friends house last night so she could spend it with a 19 y/o Marine Navy Seaman.  Once the wife and I checked up on her (which she knew we were gonna do) and figured out what was going on, I had the local Police help me with the "extraction" around 11:00pm.  So this tuned into not much sleep last night.

Lying kids + no sleep = K6

I love having kids.  I truly do.  But girls between the ages of 15 and 18 give me all my grey hair. They should be locked in a cryogenic freezer until they're 20.  And then have to pass a judgement test before being let out.

If my cycle really is starting the next six weeks will be interesting to say the least.  Here is where I find out if the Gabapentin/Verapamil cocktail is at least going to make life livable.

Good Vibes my Man  and I have found that mass quantities of velcro and duck tape work rather well on the children.

Just try to be her best friend. I had similar with my daughter and now we are very, very close; I decided no longer to try and be her "father", an authority figure,  but to become genuinely interested in what she likes - to understand why she likes what interests her etc.  It was not difficult - all I had to do was recall what I was like at that age.

You'll never stop worrying about your kids because you love them nd are protective of them but sometimes you have to hide that worry from them and bear the consequences of that worry, your headaches, alone.

Wishing you all the very best!

I worried for a long time about the problems I was likely to encounter when my daughter became a teenager.

As it turned out, I cant remember one problem she gave me.

She did well at school, went to college and is building a nice career.

She is now 25, living with a nice man in a house they are buying and we are very close.

I have been very lucky (judging from some of the stories I have heard) and I am very proud of her.

Hey Den,

I have both scenarios my 20 year old was an angel growing up.Now the 17 year old not so much: lying, sneaking out ,she got cought drinking, got cought smoking ,cutting class poor grades, the list goes on.Til 2 years ago she was the perfect kid til she met Emily, this kid is trouble from the word go.We seriously gave bootcamp a thought. Its on the back burner now.We just don't want to give up on her.She has a great work ethic she never misses work shes got promoted faster then anybody else there. All we could do is to keep grounding her.Back to the 20 year old she was valedictorian of her high school.Talk about night and day.She is going for her PHD and she needs 3 years for her masters and 5 for her PHD.Her GPA in high school was 4.125.(I dident even know you could go higher than a 4)But she was taking collage classes all through Highschool. Now I pray my 2 little ones 2 and 4 turn out as good as my oldest. All you can do is hope Den.

Thanks for the wishes, vibes and perspective.  This one is our third daughter, #6 out of 10.  So I’ve gone through the 15-18 period twice already.  I know she’ll be alright in the end and even love me again eventually.  As you well know, It’s just getting there that is so tough.

Daughter #1 was no picnic either but we’ve actually endured worse from our second daughter (child #4).  Anorexia, self injury, 5 hospitalizations in two years, endless therapy, …  As a result she had to drop out of High School.  Finally after beginning to recover she got her GED (HS equivalency) attended classes at a local community college for two years (3.8 GPA) and was just accepted as a transfer student to Smith College here in Massachusetts.  At one point we were told by a Psychiatrist that she would die from her condition.  Obviously, thankfully he was wrong.  Even though last night was tough, it wasn’t as bad as that.  So hope for daughter #3 is not and will not be lost.

This post was mainly about the confirmation of my diagnosis (I am now an official member of club cluster) and to report that the O2 worked spectacularly for me.  This is the first time in 12 years I’ve woken to a K6 and been pain free with 15 minutes of O2 and two cups of strong coffee.  Normally I’d have kept the pain all day coming in waves between K3 and K6.  I’m thrilled with the success and relieved that I now have some tools in my arsenal to deal with the beast.

I’m also very thankful for finding this community and have been busy pouring over everything on this site for the last two weeks.  I’m amazed to find so many people sharing their experience and supporting one another.  I’m not alone any more.  There are people out there suffering way more and way longer than I.  It’s all very humbling and very comforting.
