Title: Possible Reversal for Cluster Headaches!
Post by bonniebluebug on Jun 15th, 2007, 1:32am
Just as an introduction, I am engaged to a man who has suffered from cluster headaches for over 13 years now.I made it my priority to research everything I could on cluster headaches...and I do mean everything!

Just the last couple of months I have made some interesting connections in various wordwide studies that lead to a couple answers for possible (VERY POSSIBLE) reversal of the condition.

My sweetheart is eginning these supplements tomorrow and hopefully this time....(If you are a sufferer, you know all too well how many doctors, specialists, narcotics..etc that a person dealing with cluster headaches will go through to find anything to help.)

Here is what theresearch has pointed at (or lack of taking up this whole website I will not post everything, just the main points) Due to a low Melatonin levels in cluster headache patients, the circadian cycle (which regulates out sleep times...it's like our internal clock) is not regulated properly.  Also, research has demonstrated that low testosterone levels also effect the onset of cluster headaches. (even women have testosterone levels)

Please look at the following web addresses for further information.  I hope it helps you regain a normal life.  I pray for all of you!  Copy and paste the web addresses into your address bar to view them.  (I am in no way affiliated with these, they just really state what all the research points to) Hopefully my sweetheart will be finally free rom the "demon" and I pray you will too.

Hello Bonnie and welcome

Just like to let you know that we have had in depth discussions before here about melatonin supplement and low testosterone in association with CH.

My husband's testosterone was found low during his last cycle and he was given Sustanon injections until the level was normal again. He also took melatonin 12 mg at night to help the sleep cycle. Both helped but did not completely stop the attacks. He continued to have daily attacks. The intensity may have been less with the correction of the testosterone level but since he was on other medications it was unclear how much was the effect of the sustanon. The melatonin helped block most of the night hits but some were still breaking through.

What helped the most was the combination of neurontin, verapamil and lithium. This blocked more than 2/3 of the normal attacks. Oxygen, ice, imigran or zyprexa took care of the rest.

However, he didnt become painfree ( no attack, no shadow ) until the cycle finished by itself.

I hope you your fiance has better luck with melatonin and testosterone supplement.

Painfree wishes to both of you.

Annette

Low testosterone and melatonin are more likely effects than causes.  Look to what regulates the levels normally and you will be a step closer to the cause.

I was LMMFAO just reading the title to this thread !

I also took Melatonin 12mg nightly and had Testosterone injections @ the hospital for awhile and it did NOTHING for the attacks  :-/

Too bad there's not a reversal for this thread !

Just to let you know, Yes, I do know what causes low levels of Melatonin and Testosterone...perhaps you'd suffer less if you educated yourself more!  These levels are low due to growing older.  The levels drop naturally...this is not an effect of Cluster Headaches...and Yes it has been proven to have a direct link in causing them!  Also, if your so called doctors actually worked on "curing" you, where would their income be?  The majority of the medical professionals are not interested in you, only your money.  They don't care what the pills do, they only care about getting your money, your insurance money, and the kick backs from the drug companies they prescribe for!  Research that!
I thought I'd pass of some useful information, but I guess it does no good to help those who like feeling sorry for themselves and want the rest of the world to do the same.  And for all those of you who swore at me, get off your lazy uneducated butts and help yourself!

One thing I forgot to mention about Waters.
Almost all concerts now do not allow any cameras. Waters allows "small disposable" cameras so there was plenty of flashes going off. They just don't want people walking in with "professional" equipment with zoom lenses etc. and I saw plenty of people having to "check" their equipment at the door.
I'm sure though that if someone has a small digital with a zoom that would fit into a pocket.......it would get it.

I was lucky to watch Pink Floyd perform "Divison Bell" in Chicago years ago. Just bought the DVD called "Pulse"  which is the exact same concert footage performed in the U.K. If you want to see a high quality Pink Floyd DVD, it is definately wniebluebug link=board=chspecific;num=1181885587;start=0#0 date=06/15/07 at 01:32:54]answers for possible (VERY POSSIBLE) reversal of the condition.

Answers should come after the question mark of your research.

Hm.

So howcome I started getting them at thirteen and cycled twice a year when I was younger?  It's only now that I'm older that they've begun to subside--at the same time that my testosterone and melatonin levels are apparently dropping.

I'm not the only one whose CH has followed this pattern.

For your clusterhead's sake, I hope whatever supplement cocktail he gets does something positive.  But I doubt that it will.

Best,

George

Our only hope is that with time they lessen.

You cannot "reverse" cluster headaches - an unfortunate turn of phrase at best.

Its not just my little boy who has CH, sadly we know of many kids with this horrific condition.

My sons neuro is one of the most eminent and respected CH specialists in the world. When Jasper described his headaches to him this man was sitting on the floor with him and struggling to swallow the lump in his throat (I had tears running down MY face)

I defy you to say doctors don't want to CURE clusters because they do. Anyone who has seen someone getting hit is horrified by what we go through - doctors included. Yes the money in medicine s good but the hours are crap, watching people suffer is not my idea of how to spend my days and their malpractice insurance is rocketing daily - being a doctor isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Now, if that isn't a typical 'research result' from someone of the snake oil fraction.....         ::)

Hmmmm....my clusters started when I was about 26 years old. That's about the peak time "to be a man". My clusters were at their worst until about age 50. Now that I've entered my sixth decade of life my melatonin and testosterone levels (may) be down a little but so are my clusters. Actually they have almost disappeared.

Not to change the subject but I do have a question. My hair has been thinning for the last 10 years and the clusters have are few and far between. What's up with that? Do we need new research? Any bald clusterheads out there?  ;;D

How dare you.  The people on these boards, many of whom have spent the majority of their lives researching about, learning about, attempting every possible remedy to CH that has ever been proposed to them, including brain surgery!

How DARE you come in here as a "guest" and tell us to get off our lazy butts and educate ourselves.

I truly wish your sweetheart the best of luck and hope he will find pain free time.  But, he is going to have a hard row to hoe with a supporter such as yourself.

BEGONE!
