Title: Injection site Post by thebbz on Jun 10th, 2007, 1:32pm Hello all, I have read many threads regarding imitrex injection. Reactions, dosage, ect. Lets see if we can gather information regarding injection sites. Subcutenious injections are used for insulin as well. Just where is the best injection site for imitrex? The diabetics ususally inject in the belly skin. I have found some area's of the skin is more sensitive to injection than others. I used legs one episode and I dont do that anymore. Butt or belly what do you all think? all the best Do not suggest neck injections please [smiley=laugh.gif] jb |

Title: Re: Injection site Post by Brewcrew on Jun 11th, 2007, 1:38pm I feel extremely fortunate to be able to say that, in 46 years on God's green earth, I've never had to stick a needle into my own flesh. Except bustin' open zits or pickin' at a sliver. O2 and the other non-injectable abortives have worked every time but twice. |

Title: Re: Injection site Post by BarbaraD on Jun 11th, 2007, 2:53pm When I used the trex -- anywhere it really didn't matter - just get r done.... One time when I was getting hit in the docs office and had hold of his lab coat and everyone was screaming for trex and the little nurse came in and politely asked if I wanted it in the arm or rear everyone in the room yelled, "Just give her the damn thing!" Title: Re: Injection site Post by CrazyDog on Jun 11th, 2007, 3:06pm For me the biggest improvement was getting away from the StatDose system. I can’t stand those things. Use a latex glove and fill it with water then load the pen with a die. No wonder it hurts so much. Anyway I use insulin needles and actually get more Trex from the vials. Each month I get 5 vials containing 6mg each. I can split those in half so I get a total of 10 injections per month 3mg each. If you need more you can always get an insurance override for 20 vials, oh belly for me, my wife does them for me. |

Title: Re: Injection site Post by midwestbeth on Jun 11th, 2007, 3:27pm I used the auto inject pen twice and OUCH that did hurt and left me feeling bruised. Ever since I read the imitrex tip, I self inject in my arm, even when I use the entire dose. I never feel a thing except relief that the pain will soon be going away. Beth |

Title: Re: Injection site Post by seasonalboomer on Jun 11th, 2007, 3:38pm I use the auto-inject pen either under the bicep on that soft part of the arm, or into the thigh. Sometimes bruises either place. The relief makes me forget any discomfort that occurs. |

Title: Re: Injection site Post by Gator on Jun 12th, 2007, 2:27am I don't like the stab and slam StatDose injector either, but I'd rather use it than suffer a full length attack. Usually, I will disassemble the injectors and empty them into a vial, then use 31 gauge, .5cc, short needle syringes to measure out half doses. I preload several syringes and keep them in a hard sided eyeglasses case. Primary target with the syringe or injector is my stomach, although I do sometimes inject in the triceps or thigh. One caution about injecting into the stomach area is to stay at least one inch away from the belly button. Here is a link to a .pdf document containing instructions on giving subcutaneous injections: http://www.clinimmsoc.org/teaching/downloads/subcutaneous_injections.pdf |

Title: Re: Injection site Post by ClusterChris on Jun 12th, 2007, 11:27am why do most of you use the stat dose or auto inject with the trx tip?? Why don't you get the syringes and vials, it is much easier. There must be a good reason for it, just curious as to why! Thanks |

Title: Re: Injection site Post by Ray on Jun 12th, 2007, 1:31pm Hello Everyone: I am not a fan of the autoinjector system. When I have no other choice, I pinch up a large bit of flesh on the top of my thigh with my left hand. One must pinch HARD because the autoinjector must meet resistance to fire. I press the injector against the pinched up flesh and fire. I much prefer the "clinical dose pack" of ampules (NDC 0173-0449-02) and use a 30 gauge 0.5 cc insulin syringe. I am a minor needle phobe, but I just had to "get over it" to get relief. When possible, my lovely wife, supporter extrordinare, has been putting the shots in a spot under my shoulder blades. I too use between 0.25 and 0.3 cc for a shot, using 3 mg or less of imitrex to abort a CH. Wishing you PF days and nights, Ray |

OUCH! Okay, that gives me the heebee jeebees just thinking about it. I never liked needles, either, but since I discovered how quickly the trex injections work - needles are my friend. ;;D Oxygen is still my first line of defense, though! With it, I rarely have to resort to the needle. |

Title: Re: Injection site Post by swimchica623 on Jun 12th, 2007, 8:55pm You are supposed to do it where you have the most amount of fat, right? So it doens't get into the muscle? The ER tried it last summer but way too late, and then I tried a sample but I was too ditzy to figure out how to put it together, and now I just got another sample and figured out hwo to do it before leaving and they had me stab myself with a practice one too, so I think I can do it now! Gosh I need to get a booty, and I have too FAR too sexy abs...I think I have some thigh-fat that could work though.... ;;D Yes don't you all wish you were all 22 year old ladies! Love, The Brat. Title: Re: Injection site Post by puppetonastring on Jun 17th, 2007, 1:34pm I'm also using the Statdose Pen and find that for a non-needle liker, knowing that when I press the button..POP and then hold is just fine. I prefer the shoulder area just after the bi-cept. Alternate between left and right and bruising is minimal if non-existant. Depending upon the venue (i.e. public places) I'll resort to side of the thigh If possible, movement of the needle is discouraged - any movement whilst under the skin will result in more bruising / blood (Of Course) |

Title: Re: Injection site Post by phil098342wq on Jun 18th, 2007, 10:48am I was in the military and the nerve gas shot always went in the thigh. I do that just because I can relax my thigh, but tense my arm as I do it to help with my nerves. Sometimes I get some blood but not as bad as the one time I tried the arm, besides I can't seem to do as good on the arm as I can where I can see it. |
