Title: Episodics, has this ever happened to you
Post by Kris_in_SJ on Jun 6th, 2007, 9:13am
I've been out of cycle for 3 yrs - my usual is every 4-5 years.  Both last Friday and Saturday night got hit with kip 7-8's.  Reached for my stash of Trex with good results.  Reached for my stash of Verap and started with 120mg 2 times a day.  Reached for my stash of Melatonin and started 6mg every night.  Made an appointment with doc for later this week (after crying for hours because I was at least a year early).

A few shadows on Sunday, but not a twinge since then.  This is unusual for me since my cycles always start with a hit about every 3 days and slowly ramping up to 1 or 2 a day at peak.  And, it's way to early for low dose Verap to be kicking in.

Is the Beast just playing with me?

Hugs,

Kris

Yes, this has happened to me a few times....but I switch times of year about every 3 years or so, I'll go from summer to winter, winter to spring....well you get the picture, and I'll have a couple of days with some fairly significant CHs and then nothing and then my cycle will change seasons (so to speak) so you're not alone, it happens... ;)

I will get an occasional "phantom" CH when out of cycle, the eye droops and the nose runs a bit, I get the crabby feeling in my stomach and the tingly tight feeling on the scalp with this panicky "where in the hell did that come from" feeling, but the "pain" never comes. I've never had a full blown CH when out of cycle....thank goodness!!!

I hope I'm wrong, but it could be just a slow start to a new cycle. I get lots of shadows without starting a cycle, but I've never actually had attacks without a cycle starting. Sending vibes that it was just a fluke.

I have never gotten an attack out of cycle (been episodic for 20 yrs.).
What may have happened is that you may be one of the lucky ones for whom melatonin eliminates the hits.  I have been told that it does work for some people entirely (I am not one of them).  I think you should continue taking it though as I suspect it may be helping you.  Pain free wishes to you.  Star

About 28 years ago now I had one massive hit completely out of cycle. As you can see it is something I will never forget.

Hello everybody:

I spent the first 15 years as chronic.  When I swiched to episodic about 5 years ago, I would have "break through" hits during my quiet periods.  They were every bit as bad as the ones in cycle.  So, with me, it's possible.

Wishing you PF days and nights,

Ray

Thanks for the replies everyone.

However, got hit again last night, so it appears the cycle is here early and starting our differently than ever before.  As we always say - there's just no predicting the Beast.

Update ....

After the third hit in a week, went to the doc.  Got loaded up on my arsenal - Pred taper, more Verapamil with permission to max the dose, and (of course) more Trex - script and samples of the newer 4mg syringes.

Since last Wednesday, not a twinge, shadow or hit.  I hadn't yet started the Pred taper - simply because it didn't feel right.  My darling hubby thinks maybe the Beast was making a last, final and early show.  Wow!  Wouldn't that be great!?

I think it was simply a reminder.  This ever happen to any of you?  Have already started tapering down off the Verap without problems.

Also, if anyone needs help right now, please PM me.  I can assist with certain needs.

Hugs,

Kis
