I am brand new to this site.  I have been suffering from these cluster headaches for about 6 years now.  I use amerge.  Daily to help keep the pain away.  It really works.  Hard to get a prescription for, but i get the max dosage and cut them in half.  One in the morning and one at night.

I have chronic cluster headaches.  Every single day.  At least twice a day, lasting at least 1-3 hours at a time.  I have to use the Amerge in the morning to get thru my day without a headache.  Night time is a differenct story.  Amerge doesn't always work, but does 50% of the time.

Has anyone else been prescribed amerge?  Any success stories?  Its not a cure.  Only an abortive!  But it helps.  I have a feeling that taking too much amerge is bad.  So i try to limit myself on how much i take.  Took a long time for the docs to prescribe me double the amt of pills at a time.  So i get 18 a month.  They wrote me overlapping prescriptions once and now i can get 36.  But that probably wont last too long.  

I could use someone to talk to about amerge if the've used it.  Any help would help.  Thank you.  I must say.  It just feels nice to type about this.  I have no one to talk to.  My brand new wife of 1 month is so amazing.  I would surely be dead without her.  I try to limit what i say to her since its all bad ya know.

Yes, I've used Amerge, and yes, it works. But I use it as infrequently as possible. It is not a first line response for me. Oxygen first (along with my regular preventatives). If they fail, then I will hit the triptans.

I've been told that Amerge has a longer half-life than other triptans, and I believe it to be true.

Take it from someone who has been married to the same woman for 25 years (we've known each other since we were five) - you need to stop this practice. Include her in the good, the bad, and the ugly. You won't regret it.

I can't see how a pill could work as an abortive since they take so long to work.I Amerge a triptan in pill form?

It seems to me as well you are using an abortive as a prevent.
Triptans are tough on the ticker.  NEVER MIX TRIPTANS!!!!

Yes, it is. Sometimes I would use it when I would get hit at night in conjunction with O2. The O2 would knock out the hit that woke me up 90 min. after going to sleep, and the Amerge would allow me to sleep the rest of the night.

Should read: NEVER MIX TRIPTANS WITHOUT THE APPROVAL AND SUPERVISION OF YOUR DOCTOR!!!!

In some instances, it is acceptable to do so, but it should never be attempted on your own.
