When I was in 2nd grade I was pushed into a garage wall,I was knocked out for 7 min.I had a minor concussion.I was hit on the same side as my CH.I always wondered if there was a connection.Anyone?

I had 2 head injuries, one when I was about 20 and the other when I was 24. Thought I had some bad stuff going on in my head, (swelling, tumor, something) but lived with the pain.

When I could not take it anymore I went to my GP in 2004 and he sent me for a catscan and to a neuro. This is where I was diagnosed with CH's

Just like with smoking, the rate of head injury among clusterheads is higher than in the general population.

And just as with smokers, there are exceptions to this.

Rendered unconscious for about 24 hours playing HS football.

Rendered unconscious again just a few years later in an auto accident.

But CH didn't manifest itself until I was in my mid 30's.

The small amount of research that I've come across indicates that somewhere between 13% and 16.5% of CH sufferers have experienced some type of head trauma. The percentages are reported to be high in CH sufferers but like smoking, drinking, shift work, etc. there isn't a strong/consistent connection that links any of these to the development of CH.

Post-traumatic cluster headache (CH) is a very rare occurrence. Only one such case has been verified in the literature thus far. On the other hand, a non-casual association is almost certain to exist between previous head trauma and future CH onset. Considering the generally long interval of time separating the two events, it is not easy to accurately explain the nature of the head trauma/CH relationship. Head trauma may damage extra- or intracranial peripheral or central nervous structures, hence predisposing to the future development of CH. However, there also is the possibility that previous head injuries may be more frequent among CH patients because of their lifestyle, which may leave them more exposed to the risk of traumatic events.

Hmmmmm......I wonder about this.........

I been hit in the head so many times I have lost count of the stitches.....my CH started when I was 13.

Maybe I need a helmet....... ;;D

I don't smoke, but i've had my share of head injuries, starting with splitting my forehead on the bar on a merry go round at 5. Never been knocked unconscious thought.

I don't think it is connected though because many of my relatives had similar head injuries and don't have ch.

Several minor head injuries...major head bangs into concrete pool walls (I'm a backstroker with very poor depth perception...need I explain more?) but never been knocked unconcious from that. When I was 12 I ran blind folded into a concrete wall while doing a trust exercise, person never told me to stop so I didn't, sure was dumb and learned then not to trust guys, at least not while blindfolded ::)...I broke my arm and got real banged up from the impact, passed out for a few seconds but not a concussion. That was the worst injury since I hit my head on the wall and then on the floor, both of which were made of concrete.
So not one HORRIBLE one but I am pretty clumsy so more bangs to the head than the average person for sure...especially with that one accident when I was 12.

Edit: just realized, with that accident when I was 12, broke my left arm and I get hit on the left side, maybe some correlation there, who knows.

Only if falling out of a moving car at age 5, lead pipe across the forhead at age 13 (I was not a nice kid) assorted Helicopter crashes and banging my head every single time I get in and out of my own car count ;)

My wife thinks I'm a klutz....... 36yrs of bliss July 10th while all you lucky people are in Richmond. :'(

Had a head injury when I was 2 yrs. old, starting getting HAs at 14. When I was 2 I jumped out of the high part of a shopping cart and landed on my head exactly where the HAs occur. While I come up with all of my crazy theories about CH, my mother says she "knows" it's from that head injury. Who knows maybe it is.

When I was young I ran into a shelf right into my CH side temple. Swelled up real good for a few days. I have a question about this theory: Why are men more likely than women to have ch? Are men more likely to bang their heads? I guess that's not to hard to believe. I can also believe that smoking doesn't help any organ heal very well.

Good theory, hard to prove. Too bad you can't see this damage in a MRI or a cat scan, or can you? Is there some type of scan that can see this? Is there any research trying to find this damage?

I heard about a lady who had a stint put in her head for a blood flow problem for some aliment and all of her problems went away. Wouldn't that be nice for us?

I had a cyst removed off of my frontal lobe ,left hemi, at 9 years old. Wrong place wrong time, pistol wipped on cluster side at 17, fractured left orbital and cheeck bone. Allways had ha, but at 18 they were a whole new type of pain. Misdiagnosed from 18-28. Now 29 and because of this site I have the knowledge to understand and support to continue the fight.
