Title: Has this happened to anyone else? Post by Kontrolr on May 19th, 2007, 9:31pm Ok for all my life, my headaches have pretty much been the same. Every year in October for 2 weeks. However, this time around it has been 6 years since I have had a cluster headache. And I am freaking out. For a week before they hit, I had minor headaches all week, then I had the cluster headaches for almost 3 weeks and now I am getting cluster migraines. This has never happened to me before and I realize that I should probably be concerned but I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else? Where they have a definate cycle and suddenly it changes or they start having other headaches with it? Secondly- I was wondering if anyone else has experience a type of paralyses when they hit a KIP 10? It has only happened to me twice. The first time, I was slurring and couldn't move my fingers, they locked up. The second time was just a week or so ago, I was in so much pain that I opened my mouth to scream and my jaw locked up. It stayed locked up until my episode was over. Has anyone else experienced this or know about this? Please help! Thanks! |

I'd think each of us would say YES to this. It depends if we were DX at the time, or if this "morph" is what got us correctly Dx. Probably is a toss up on that. I spent 20+ years without a correct Dx, but every few years the pattern would slightly change, sending me back to the docs who would again misdiagnose me, until 3 years ago. The "beast" plays by it's own rules. That is the only thing we as sufferers can count on. |

Title: Re: Has this happened to anyone else? Post by UN solved on May 19th, 2007, 11:58pm headaches changing, paralysis, fingers locking up, jaw locking ... those are not cluster headache symptoms at all. You need to go see some doctors and find out what is wrong with you. Get a firm diagnosis. Goodluck Unsolved |

Title: Re: Has this happened to anyone else? Post by Lotus on May 20th, 2007, 12:13am Slurring of speech, paralysis, fingers and jaws locking up may be symptoms of a transient ischaemic attack ( TIA ) , or can be associated with Basilar Migraine ( BAM ), which is a different condition but also presents with severe unilateral headache. Some people do have different types of headaches such as CH and migraines. Vasocontrictors such as Imitrex can be deadly if it is BAM so you need to see your doctor about it. BAM and TIAs both carry higher risk of stroke. I hope its not anything dangerous but to be safe, whenyou get new of different symptoms, its best to get your doctor to check them out. Painfree wishes to you. Annette |

I think maybe I wasn't very clear in my explaining my situation. I do have cluster headaches. I have gotten a firm diagnosis of cluster headaches and horner's syndrome. I've only had 2 instances of the paralysis, jaw locking symptoms. One was like 10 years ago and the other was 10 days ago. In each case, it came with my last huge headache before they started to taper off. In all of the other 29 years of me having these headaches, I've never experienced the paralysis except for twice. My concern was that as soon as my clusters ended, I started having what I assume are migraines. They are definatly NOT cluster headaches as those are very distinct. I've just NEVER gone from having 2 weeks worth of clusters to having another kind of headache. Usually in 2 weeks, I am headache free. I just wanted to know if anyone else jumped from having cluster headaches to having migraines.....It's never happened before so I don't know what to make of it. |

Title: Re: Has this happened to anyone else? Post by BarbaraD on May 20th, 2007, 7:09am I have migraines along with CH (usually NOT at the same time thank goodness), but the paralysis is something else again. You need to have that checked out by your neuro. Sounds like something else again (TIA comes to mind). You didn't say what you're taking for the CH or the migraines, but to be on the safe side please see your neuro about the paralysis... Better safe than take a risk. Hugs BD |

Title: Re: Has this happened to anyone else? Post by thebbz on May 20th, 2007, 12:17pm Clusterheadache does change in length, duration, time. Some years it's one episode. Some years its long time living hell. Some years...nothing. Some have timing that is worth setting your clock to, others it's erratic. Dont know about the paralysis Always check with the neuro when symtoms change dramatically. hoping its a short one all the best jb |

Title: Re: Has this happened to anyone else? Post by TonyYZF on May 25th, 2007, 10:39pm I have TMJ which has caused my jaw to lock open before due to muscle spasms. Once the muscles calm down and relax it will release. This only happens to me when I am doing very strenuous activities. I have not had it happen during a hit, but I could see it as possible with the straining and grinding teeth etc. Be careful with odd neuro symptoms though, TIA was the first thing to come to my mind as well.
