Ok, after spending 7.50 for two cans of redbull, I did a little research.  The two main ingredients benifitting us are taurine and caffiene.  I discovered that the taurine is pretty inexpensive here: http://www.herbalremedies.com/taurine.html

And they say that 1 can of redbull has the same amount of caffiene as 1 cup of coffee. So basically, If you make a pot of coffee and pick up the taurine pills, you can make your own redbull for pennies!

I remember someone posting that the carbination helps get it into your system faster. Fact? I don't know but it sounds good LOL.

Our Australian Barry takes taurine on a regular basis with magnesium and he has been pretty painfree for several months and he is a chronic.

On average it takes 20 mins for a pill as large as the taurine pill to dissolve in your stomach. So while it can work well for shadows or smaller/slower hits, I think its too slow to work for the bigger, faster ramming up ones.

Daniel as tried taking carbonated energy drink with a taurine tablet and a cafeine tablet, he said they did work but not as well or as quick as a Red bull.

Maybe you can have both, and depends on the hits that you decide which one to use and save some money that way.

I was thinking of making a batch of cold coffee and disolving a bunch of the taurine in it! Worth a shot i guess.

Ya barry I'm going to try and get in on monday. Not very optimistic with the o2 though. I'm guess ing I'm going to have to get a refferal to a neuro then I'll be out of cycle by the time i get it!  I'm sure if she took the time to read annettes fax I should be in business. We'll see what happens!

As far as kickin barry's ass. The only way that will happen is if I make it to his place and he has no Labbatt's Blue.  By the looks of him I think he can handle his own!  ;)

Hi Angie

Barry has for a long time tried different doses. He uses 500 mg 3 times a day. On the taurine bottle it says 500 mg once to twice a day. I checked with the Poison Information Centre in Australia and they said there has never been a report of overdosing/poisoning on Taurine as yet, and they said up to 2000 mg of Taurine ( ie 500 mg 4 times a day ) is safe. The worst reaction you would get is some tummy upset and indigestion.

With magnesium, it usually comes in 300 to 500 mgs and the recommended dose is up to 1500mg per day.

Chris,

I rang her office on Friday after faxing the papers through but there was only an answer machine. I will need to check out the time difference between here and Ontario. ( I should know, my sister lived in Ontario for 7 years !  ::) )

I will try to ring again on Monday, if I cant get to speak to the doc, at least I will check with the secretary to make sure that she has got the fax.

I will keep you posted.

Thank you annette! I will try to see her monday after work. I need to get her to write me  a script for more imitrex anyway. Going to have to give her shit for that too. I didnt realize untill after i left that she only prescribed me 15 vials. Thats not even a weeks worth for me and I don't want to have to keep making new appointments.

If you took taurine every 8 hours, wouldnt there be enough in your system to aid the absorption of the coffee at any time?

I dont use taurine.  I just drink diet coke with a couple cubes in it.  It does help some......you think it would help quicker if i had taurine in my system too?

Taurine is extremely bitter as it is extracted from bulls bile and ..... wait for it .... bulls semen !  :P  . Therefore I think trying to dissolve taurine capsule or tablet into a drink would render it vomiting material  :(

Taurine in the pharmaceutical and lab setting is synthesized through a combination of cysteine, methionine and vitamin E.

Urban legends surrounding the source of taurine have included bull urine extract and bull semen. While it's true that taurine is found in both sources, it is not the source of taurine in the pharmaceutical or food industry. And while taurine is sometimes extracted from the intestines of cattle, many food industry sources, including the popular energy drink Red Bull[1], make efforts to use synthesized sources that are vegetarian friendly.

Well rather than mix up stuff I just buy stores own generic "red bull" - high energy drinks with the same amount of caffeine and taurine which I can pick up herefor as little as 25 pence a can. (Asda for any Brits reading!)

If you look around for cheap alterntives yourself you may find it a better and more convenient option for some of the time at any rate

I believe BikerBob is unhappy that he had used the initial BB for a long time on the Board then I registered using BB as my username and I refused to change it. I didnt deliberate choose BB to despise him, I didnt even know BiberBob existed before registering on the Board. When I joined I chose BB because its the name I have used on all the forums that I frequent and it was available. If BikerBob had wanted the initial BB all to himself he should have chosen it first.

1- Please read what I posted more carefully. I did include that Red Bull as a company " make efforts to use synthesized sources that are vegetarian friendly ". As for the Taurine capsules containing what sort of Taurine I do not know. How do you know they are not from animal source? Many of those capsules that you could buy cheaply online may not be from reputable manufacturers, and I would have my reservation as to how trustworthy they are.
Since you posted a recommendation for people to search around the Net for cheap Taurine capsules, without having tried or tested them yourself, I thought I should let people know what is Taurine and where could it come from so that people can make an informed decision.
Its more difficult and more costly to get enough Taurine from plants to make a capsule compared to getting biles from a bull so one could make an intelligent guess as to what some less than reputable manufacturers may do to make their products so cheap. However, there is no sure way to prove it one way or another so that one is up to speculation.

2- My opinion was expressed in what I thought of mixing Taurine capsule with coffee and sugar would taste like, not of the facts I quoted Wiki about Taurine. Why dont you try what Flo suggested, taste it then report back here how palatable it is? Flo himself thought it would taste like motor oil!

3- You dont know what sort of friendship I had with Flo. I knew him well enough to joke about him without being nasty. We had discussed and debated many things in the past both on Board and via PM. We had a mutual respect for one anothers knowledge. I actually miss Flo a lot. I had really enjoyed debating different issues with him because even if we yelled at one another, it was always intelligent yellings.

Very good question Chewy. I know you are concerned that I am "peddling" Taurine as a cure, arent you ?  ;) Not at all. :)

I remember Aussie Barry said he had gone chronic for a few years, then he decided to go med free maybe last year or so. He has only been taking Taurine and Magnesium. Last he talked about it he said he only had shadowings of various degrees but no real attack. I guess that can be loosely translated into " he is pretty much painfree" but with shadowing still I wouldnt say he is no longer chronic.

Whether he got better because of detoxing or because of Taurine, no one knows for sure, including himself. However he is the only one on the Board who has tried Taurine seriously and had charted a very detailed diary of his responses.

I will go look for his Taurine thread later and bump it for all to read.

Let's make that 12 hits with 12 aborts thanks to the o2! I have the regulator set at 15lpm and am using the hyperventilate method and am stopping the hits within 5 to 10 minutes.
A Clustermask is on route to me as we speak, should be here by Wednesday, and a big thanks to a very special some-one for doing this for me. [smiley=bow.gif]

Chris, I am off today and will be waiting for your results at the Doc's office. I pray for you getting o2.

Red Bull not only contains taurine (1000mg), but many other additives.  All that is know at this point in time is taurine is believed to help CH sufferers abort an episode.  Taurine has many medicinal pluses:
