Title: blood pressure Post by Maffumatt on Apr 26th, 2007, 1:26pm I got hit on the way into work this morning and stopped by the plants firehouse on the way in and got on their O2. The paramedic took my BP and kinda freaked out, it was 260 over 110. Is that higher than it should be during a hit? |

Title: Re: blood pressure Post by Bond007 on Apr 26th, 2007, 1:30pm It's a lot higher than mine during a hit. Then, again, my BP is typically 100-110 over 60-70. During a hit I've clocked it as high as 150/90. For me, that's high. What's your bp normally? |

Title: Re: blood pressure Post by Maffumatt on Apr 26th, 2007, 1:32pm During my last physical it was 140 over 70 |

Title: Re: blood pressure Post by BarbaraD on Apr 26th, 2007, 1:37pm That's pretty high even during a hit. Mine is low normally (110/80) but during a hit gets up to 160/100. Better keep an eye on it. Hugs BD |

Title: Re: blood pressure Post by Maffumatt on Apr 26th, 2007, 1:41pm he wanted me to go to the hospital but when it was over I felt fine so I just went on into the office. I have felt crappy all morning, tired with no energy, he came by and checked on me a little while ago, figured if he was that worried about it I oughta ask about it. I did some checking online and I couldn't find a reference of one being that high, is it even possible, could he have been mistaken? |

Title: Re: blood pressure Post by Maffumatt on Apr 26th, 2007, 3:01pm It was taken manually, he took it 3 times. Another thing, everytime I stand up I get vertigo, not bad but enough to make me wonder... |

Title: Re: blood pressure Post by BarbaraD on Apr 26th, 2007, 4:40pm Get it taken again kiddo and watch it for a few days.... It sounds like it might be too high. Are you on any meds? You might need to visit your friendly doc for a check-up. don't you dare get sick on us... Ya got enough problems with the damn CH.... Hugs BD |

Title: Re: blood pressure Post by rbmb on Apr 26th, 2007, 5:31pm 260 over 110 is pretty high. I'd get it checked by different people at different times (or at one of those blood pressure measuring machines) to get an average. BP can change as a result of physical activity, emotional state (like being hit with CH), even time of day. Uncontrolled high BP can have serious consequences.I'd definately get checked by a doctor. I take BP meds and I had it checked at the doc's office yesterday and it was 142 over 81, which I think is fairly normal for a 58 year old (who smokes, is kind of fat and doesn't exercise enough). Title: Re: blood pressure Post by BMoneeTheMoneeMan on Apr 26th, 2007, 8:00pm Bro, I am not doctor, but that is extremely high on the systolic. 140 is considered high, 200 is very high, 250 is unbelievable. U need to do something about that. I have a kit I got at a drugstore and used to take my BP daily. Its easy. Definately monitor it, and tell the results to your doc. Thats really high, bro. |

Title: Re: blood pressure Post by BB on Apr 26th, 2007, 8:15pm Told you Matt that you are related to my Daniel :P His BP during a hit got to 220/110 to 250/110 quite a few times, initially. However, straight afterwards it would go back down to 140/90 which was his " normal " BP. However, since he has been on Verapamil ( 240 mg 3 times a day ) his normal BP is 120/70 and during a hit would only go up to 180/110 maximum. He had a full cardio check with ECG and ultrasound and his heart was fine. The cardiologist told us that as long as he remains on medication and that his regular BP is good ( around 120/80 ) then the transient increase to 180/110 wouldnt be a worry. You should get yourself a full cardiovascular check up to make sure your ticker is OK and to monitor your BP every day several times a day to check what they normally are at. If they are high or borderline high then you should get onto blood pressure medication. Our neurologist told us that its common to be that high during a hit when not on medications. Hope that helps. Hugs Annette |

Title: Re: blood pressure Post by pieface_49 on Apr 26th, 2007, 9:42pm Mine during big hit was 161/90, but I knew nothing about blood pressures. A$$holes at the ER. I asked how that was on the chart and they shrugged? By the time they got to take blood pressure, the hit had lessoned. Your readings are way off the chart. http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=2112 http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/dci/Diseases/Hbp/HBP_WhatIs.html Donnie |

Title: Re: blood pressure Post by BB on Apr 27th, 2007, 5:08am Oh dear Matt, That may mean that you already have hypertension to start with, even without any CH hit! You should see a cardiologist and have the work up then get onto some BP medication pronto :) All the best Annette |

Title: Re: blood pressure Post by ClusterChuck on Apr 27th, 2007, 6:03am Yup. Matt, I agree with Annette!! Get that checked out, buddy! Chuck |

Title: Re: blood pressure Post by Samiam on Apr 27th, 2007, 11:27am I had a man one time when I was working that came into the office complaining of h/a's I took his blood pressure and it was 220/110 sorry to tell you he stroked out right there while I was rechecking. Seems he ignored the symptoms that he was having for a month or two blaming them on stress or running around doing things. You have the info now what you do with it is up to you but if it was me I would see my GP right away and get on some BP meds. That reading is so not normal! Sami |
||
Title: Re: blood pressure Post by BB on Apr 27th, 2007, 11:59am Are you a medical person ? How did you know he stroked out right in front of you? What did you do then? Did you follow him up ? Annette |
||
Title: Re: blood pressure Post by Samiam on Apr 27th, 2007, 12:07pm Hi Annette, Yes I was in the medical field for 15 yrs. He was a large man with a history of high BP but wouldn't take his meds. His speech slurred, When sticking his tongue out it went to the side, along with his rt hand just dropped and marked weakness in his rt leg I'm guessing a left sided stroke. We called 911 to transport to ER. This was an MD's office. He also went out cold on us. This man also a bit later had a quint bypass. High BP is just a warning that something is not right. I don't think it should be taken lightly and that high of a BP should be looked at right away. Now I'm not a Doctor which I know you are but I bet you feel the same way. Sami |

Title: Re: blood pressure Post by BB on Apr 27th, 2007, 12:30pm Poor man ! Sami, I agree with you totally that high blood pressure should never be taken lightly but then panicking at one or two random readings wont help either. There is no absolute value in which blood pressure level would definitely cause a stroke in a particular person, there are often many other contributing factors such as heart disease, diabetes, renal disease, vascular disease etc as well as age and the overall fitness level of the person. While a transient BP reading of 260/110 may not be immediately of danger to an otherwise fit and healthy young person, a much lower reading such as 160/90 could lead to a heart attack or TIA or stroke in someone older or with existing illnesses. It may not be true that high BP alone was the cause of your patients stroke. Since he subsequently needed quint bypass meant that he had existing extensive heart disease. It could very well be that it was his heart that caused the stroke from an embolism to a silent heart attack leading to brain ischaemia. Unless you followed him up properly you could have inaccurate information. I dont disagree with you at all that high blood pressure needs to be checked and looked at properly and as quickly as possible, I just wish to point out that 220/110 is not a magic number that will cause a stroke in a person. Treating hypertension in a CHer is more complicated than just adding antihypertensive medication, as the choice of medication used may adversely affect CH. Thats why I recommended a review with a cardiologist. Just seeing a GP and getting onto any odd antihypertensive medication may not be sufficient. Just wanted to clarify. Annette |

Title: Re: blood pressure Post by Maffumatt on Apr 27th, 2007, 1:28pm I called my Doc at home today (he got fired from the clinic for punching an assistant that was stealing drugs). I got a referral to the Freemans Clinic in Joplin to see a neurologist and a cardiologist. Thanks for the advice. |

Title: Re: blood pressure Post by Samiam on Apr 27th, 2007, 2:17pm I'm glad you did that. Please keep us posted with the outcome. Sami |

Title: Re: blood pressure Post by Maffumatt on May 1st, 2007, 10:55am stage 1 hypertension, on verap at 240 mg a day. |

Title: Re: blood pressure Post by BB on May 1st, 2007, 11:11am Good to hear its only stage 1, the verap will help both CH and HT. Now look after yourself Matt. Annette |

Title: Re: blood pressure Post by Rosybabe on May 1st, 2007, 12:46pm Hi, sorry to hear you have now to deal with HT, if the doc did not give you anything for the HT you may give going natural a try, cut your salt intake and eat lots of oatmeal, that will help lower your BP without medication.. Good Luck Matt!! p.s. hey I noticed you mentioned Joplin, and I realized you live in Parsons, my husband is from that area, He was born in Oswego and lived in Edna for years and then into Coffeyville, his Mom lives in Parsons also...it's a small world after all :) |

Title: Re: blood pressure Post by Karla on May 1st, 2007, 3:23pm I always go sky high with bp when I am in pain like ch or back pain etc. Normal for me is 120/70. I have had some good readings when seeing my dr but most have been high.. He said yeah but your always under a great deal of stress. I said but then my bp is alwas high. He said it has been normal when I am in the office. I got a bp kit and took my bp daily 3x for a month. It was reagularly such as 198/115 for example. He put me on hearth meds for high blood pressure. Any question talk to your dr and get a home monitoring blood pressure kit that will automatically take it for you. |
