Title: Work, and Switch up
Post by love2bamommy on Apr 21st, 2007, 10:41am
So, after i told work i got sent home for 3 days, and was told that my "probation"had nothing to do with my cluster headaches..the hard thing is that none of my bosses want to know anything about the damn things. I had the letter that someone graciously gave me to give to the co-workers and bosses, and they didn't want to see it.

They said that they wanted to know when it was happening, so when i got one, i said something, and it was like i said i was going to the bathroom..

Friday, All day i had shadows on the left side, which freaks me out...And i had 3 headaches (They started last Saturday)

I have a Question about meds..Is the meds that my doctor gave me, supposed to stop the ch? or just make them duller? Cause that's what's happening..I am getting to the point where i am rocking, and the pain is tolerable (in our standards) and i don't know whether or not to call her and say if its working or not.

I have been suffering from these stupid things for 10 years now and this is the first time i have tried meds, so far imatrex, ibprofin hasn't worked.

Thanks for the help guys!

You're on topomax if I remember correctly.
It is supposed to decrease the frequency, and intensity= a preventative.

Ibuproherin will not do $hit

Imitrex if in the injection form will stop an accute attack= abortive

How long have you been on the prevent and what dosage?

If not on a high enough dose or if it has not reached a therapeutic level than it will take time.

I was not a fan of that med nor did it help reduce the attacks.

I also went a decade unmedicated then tried meds and after a couple of years decided to go at it unmedicated again.

good luck and stay positive.....

I've never tried topomax, I use lithium as a prevent. It lessens the frequency and the intensity of my hits. It takes about 2 weeks for me to start seeing results. Hopefully you're almost to the point where you can start seeing some positive results, hang in there.

Hello Love2,
I passed the letter to co-workers on to my co-workers and they are understanding.  No one said anything to me about "ohhh, we did not know" or "It's only a headache".  I still think they don't totally comprehend.  I would say my worse hit at work has been a Kip7 and that is all they have seen.  If it seemed like it might be worse, I would leave, sit in the car or attempt to drive home.  The next time a bad hit comes, I am not leaving because I have learned I am hiding my illness from others.  I still am afraid to send the letter to my employers.  With so much misunderstanding about "headache", I fear many simply will not understand.  Often consider it, have not taken that step.
Certainly, they told you that if your probation had nothing to do with clusters, why the probation?  If my boss did not love me, I would have been out the door a long time ago because of my attitude during cycle.
Glad to hear the meds are helping.  Sucks to live with the pain, wondering what the heck is wrong.
Oxygen, Red Bull, melatonin, kudzu are a few things that come to mind that could help lesson the pain/duration.  The only time ibuprofen or aspirin helps me is after the episode is over.  Out of cycle, both are sitting it my desk/cabinet awaiting possible usage.

Donnie
