Title: Social Security Disability and Cluster Headaches
Post by kcopelin on Apr 13th, 2007, 11:36am
:-/The Social Security Administration has agreed with me.  I'm a 3940 or 3490 ? diagnosis code which is neurological disorder-Other.  First try-has been so long that I assumed they were going to deny me.   The VA also concurred that the clusters make me 50% disabled (because I have my own business I'm not unemployable-unless I fire my butt for incompetence , which I should do immediately)

My point is, should anyone else be trying this or thinking about it, there is hope.

I am a little conflicted about this.  I look around at people who are really injured-missing limbs, wounded in Iraq or Afganistan or Vietnam, people with brain damage and fatal diseases and I'm not even in their league.  It's almost like survivor's remorse, or something.

However, this will enable me to use my time for something bigger than myself.  I believe it is God opening a door-

Peace out y'all

unbelievable!!!!

I am a clusterhead, but I also have epilepsy.  Now my seizures are under control, but for a while a few years ago, they were out of control, and I couldnt drive, I had to quit college, and i couldnt get a job because I was haveing 10-12 seizures a day.

I was turned down for ss.  It is inconceivable that I could have been eligible if I would have mentioned that I had clusters.

Maybe I will try again.

It makes me happy to hear this and it's hard to smile in peak cycle. I was denied I think because I'm episodic. Are you Chronic?
You have earned it,         Skyhawk5  (Don)

Love ya
Sandy

And, Kathy, I'm so happy to hear that you are finally getting some help that has been much needed.

Chris, no doubt about it-apply again.

Don, I was episodic for 24 yrs, chronic for 2.

Sandy, thanks ;;D

Keep a good headache log, and track what activities you miss because of CH. (school, work, church, family holidays...) Be very clear in your description.

I wish no one ever had to go through this, but there is life between hits and it is good.

PFDAN y'all

I was turned down for cch.  After an appeal, with medical reports from several docs I was accepted, but they said it was because of my respritory disease.  Im pretty sure that if they set a president and allow clusterheads disability , that would open the floodgates for every chronic headache sufferer in this country to qualify.   They NEED to change the name of Cluster Headache.      Any Ideas?  Crippling Cranial Attack?
                                        Debilitating Head Seizures?
                                        Unbearable fucking...I dont know.

How about "flossing your eye socket with a hot poker syndrome"
maybe thats descriptive enough.

There was a movie with Brando and Val kilmer"The Island Of Doctor Moreau"  I believe it was astory by H.G. Wells.
Anyho, in it, there were wild half man half beasts roaming free on the Island. Dr. Moreau [Brando] had implanted a chip into their brains, and if they threatened to attack him, he had a little clicker that would, when pressed, drop these huge ferocious beasts to their knees screaming and crying and grabbing at their heads in agony.
Maybe in re-naming CH we could make reference to this?   Dr. Moreaus Attack Disorder?
          Moreaus Brain Disease?
          Moreaus Cranial Syndrome?
Definately need something with more punch.
I like Moreaus Attack Disorder.
Who ever chose Cluster Headache as a name for this thing obviously never had one.
There is a man in Cali. named Dr. Lee Kudrow who wrote a book completely devoted to the study of CH.  He was a sufferer as well. A pioneer in the field. I believe it was he who first found some success with oxygen therapy. He was mentor to a great headache specialist that I was lucky to have for 10 years until he retired.
Fun Fact-- Dr. Lee Kudrow is the father of Lisa Kudrow from Freinds.       Little known fact there Normie

Kathy, congratulations on working thru the official morase of both Social Security and the VA. Nothing to feel "remorse" over as your are certainly entitled to the compensation and it is not a gift, but rather appropriate
for your situtation and deserved. Phil

Kudrow was my Doctor and gave me my official diganosis.  It  really isn't a little known fact, Normie...lmao   People here know more about facts like these than you're giving us credit for.   ;)
