Title: UMMMM.... my post?? Question about Imitrex Post by Julygirl0721 on Mar 14th, 2007, 3:37am Hi I just posted info on meds and question about imitrex and the post vanished? Strange? My question has anyone had problems with imitrex? I have used Imitrex for about 8 years for my CH's it has always worked for me without problems. Last week and again last night I had out of cycles hits bad ones I used the last of my Imitrex I do use the tip and that works for me. I called my mom and she told me that someone she knows died from Imitrex has anyone heard of anything like this? Also is there anyone that can tell me of any programs to help me get Imitrex and O2 without ins? I do work and I was told the state would not help me due to the fact I have a full time job now I am scared I will get a hit and not have Imitrex or o2 on hand and I cannot afford to buy it right now. Thanks everyone |

Title: Re: UMMMM.... my post?? Question about Imitrex Post by LeLimey on Mar 14th, 2007, 3:58am Julygirl I did see your post there but I've been answering other ones and looking for the info for you at the same time - did you try to modify it? I've done that and deleted it by accident before (Brain of Britain here - not! ::) ) Imitrex is perfectly safe providing you don't have any heart conditions. It works by constricting blood vessels and sadly, it isn't clever enough to just work on your head (O2 IS though!) and that can put a strain on your heart IF you have a heart condition. If you have a normal healthy heart it isn't a problem although you shouldn't exceed the stated dose. (No more than 2 per day) Whether you can get assistance or not isn't defined by whether you work or not but by your income to the best of my knowledge. I have some links here you can investigate and I'm sure as the other lazy lumps here stir out of their pits you'll get more! ;;D (and no doubt I'll get some well deserved abuse LOL) http://www.needymeds.com/ https://www.pparx.org/Intro.php http://www.rxassist.org/pap-info/company_detail.cfm?CmpId=125 http://www.freemedicineprogram.org/available_medicine/i Now I know there are more links than this but I've lost my list. I'm sure it will be added to later on today. In the meantime I hope this helps! Helen |

Title: Re: UMMMM.... my post?? Question about Imitrex Post by Julygirl0721 on Mar 14th, 2007, 5:28am Hello No heart conditions Last year when I was here on the board I got a link to a place I could buy the o2 mask and someone told me I could rent o2 but I was never able to do that b/c the places I called said they do not rent o2 to people for personal use. I then got a job that offered ins and then lost that job 4 months later due to cut backs I then got another job which I have now and they do not offer ins. I should just go work at Mcdonalds I hear they have good ins plans??the job I have now is low impact and low stress which I need. My husband works also but he is a carpenter self employed and ins is more than he makes. I have looked into so many options it just leads to dead end roads maybe I am not looking in the right places? I am so happy that I found this board and know that there are people to talk to and listen to and just have people there for me thank you all so very much. Crystal PS HUGS TO EVERYONE ! |

Title: Re: UMMMM.... my post?? Question about Imitrex Post by Julygirl0721 on Mar 14th, 2007, 5:47am I haveI tried to apply for a few programs and I was told b/c I do not have an advocate ? what ever that is? and I am not 250% below the poverty lvl that I am not able to be enrolled in the programs I tried to explain to this person at Glaxo smith that if Imitrex was affordable I could get what I needed I even try to be really nice to them and then I yelled nither one worked. I am not giving up by any means and I may sound a little like the poor me but I just find myself sad, mad and even a little hopless some days.. I found this place in Canada that says it sells Imitrex at 85% off can Americans buy from Canada? and is it safe? Thanks again for all the help and info.. |

Title: Re: UMMMM.... my post?? Question about Imitrex Post by Rosybabe on Mar 14th, 2007, 11:13am Hey July! I am in the same boat, no ins, and my husband new job ins will not kick in until 6 months later (when my cycle will be over already ;))... If you do not live of food stamps or wellfare and you are gainfully employed, you DO NOT QUALIFY FOR ANYTHING!!! I found that out the hard way... The only thing the save me was my relatives live in Mexico, I got a prescription from my cousin who is a Dr. and my mom brought me my meds, but I could not bring an O2 because of airlines policies..anyway some Cafergot and Zomig help me out during the cycle. How far are you from the border? You can order meds from Canada but you will still need a prescription to introduce them to the US. If you can afford to go see a Dr (maybe one in those clinics that are supposed to help people with no ins) and make him give you a prescription at least for your Imitrex... If I think of something else I will posted here.. |

Title: Re: UMMMM.... my post?? Question about Imitrex Post by Julygirl0721 on Mar 14th, 2007, 4:54pm I live in Florida far from Canada I could just go to the Er to get the Imitrex script and maybe even and o2 script and pay the bill in payments but, I would have to pay out of pocket for both. I just think that buying food and paying rent is more urgent I do not feel that way when I have a Ch! I do not have any family that are Dr's and no family to help other than my husband which is great support for my emotions but he gets so stressed out when he can not buy my meds for me. I am just going to keep up the hope! Thanks |

Title: Re: UMMMM.... my post?? Question about Imitrex Post by LeLimey on Mar 14th, 2007, 4:57pm My understanding is you can buy the meds from Canada with the script to prove they are for you, not for you to have to pay the US prices by using the script there but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong! Try the caffeine tips, it really works for me and I'm still working on getting that O2 info for you, if anyone else can cut in here with info on welders O2 I'd appreciate it! Hang in there, we'll help you yet! Helen |

Title: Re: UMMMM.... my post?? Question about Imitrex Post by Brewcrew on Mar 14th, 2007, 5:08pm If cost is an issue, Aldi sells a knock-off product called Red Thunder. Same ingredients and proportions as Red Bull for about 80 cents a can. |

Title: Re: UMMMM.... my post?? Question about Imitrex Post by LeLimey on Mar 15th, 2007, 7:27am Crystal I'm very happy for you too - that is wonderful news! You need a non rebreather mask (the type with a bag and no holes in the mask) and you need a regulator that will go up to 15 LPM (litres per minute) There is a definite knack to using O2 and the important thing is not to delay, don't wait to see if you need it, USE IT! The longer you wait the harder a hit is to abort and that goes for with any medication. Also my best tip ever which saved my life when given to me is that once the pain has gone, stay on the O2 for another 5-10 minutes. You need that time to adjust after aborting a hit anyway so staying on the O2 just gives you the chance to come back down to Earth without being plagued by anyone else! I decrease the flow by a couple of litres per minute and then once I get down to about 8 or 10 I start to loosen the mask and let a little "common" air in so that the descent back into breathing normally is less harsh. I've found this has always stopped the hit coming back for me and it's been invaluable. I hope it helps you too! Helen |
