Title: eyebrows....possibly for the ladies Post by swimchica623 on Jan 4th, 2007, 11:47am Okay I may be crazy because sometimes when I have to pluck my eyebrows one side seems to need it more than the other, but I was just doing some maintenence last night and noticed there was a lot more to be plucked on my left side (I'm an episodic lefty just out of cycle) than the right. I got to the right side and realized that that side was fine, I plucked like 2 hairs and I was done. Has anyone noticed this before or is this just a strange coincidence?? (and the weirdest question ever posed here!!!) Lisa ::) |

Title: Re: eyebrows....possibly for the ladies Post by LeeS on Jan 4th, 2007, 1:28pm Nah, I like it. It's all to do with ipsilateral testerosterone build-up due to a malfunctioning hypothalamus, or more particularly the suprachiasmatic nucleus. You should see my right pit if you think I'm kidding. In the interest of pathophysiology Swim, is your Brazilian also wonky? -Lee |

Hi Lisa, congrats on becoming a Junior. Yup! That IS one of the weirdest questions ever posted here. But, when I was a newbie, I was told that the only stupid question is the one you didn't ask. This one pushes the envelope just a tad though. To answer your question, I have never noticed a correlation between hair growth on the CH side anywhere, eyebrow, head, noplace. But, I'm 60 years old and my first ever CH was at the ripe age of 53. By that time, my hair had stopped growing just about everywhere - no plucking or shaving needed. If your correlation was true, I should be getting get my CH hits on my upper lip! That's the only place that IS growing hair! :-/ ;;D Sandy |

Title: Re: eyebrows....possibly for the ladies Post by Kevin_M on Jan 4th, 2007, 2:47pm I'm too inexperienced with eyebrows to have a fit enough answer for this question. But you've got me wondering... belly-button hair to the left and right side of it??? I could provide a perhaps detailed enough answer that's been comtemplated for your curiosity but when I've tried, the area measured and marked off in magic marker keeps washing off and I've no visual left/right recorded number to compare with from before clusters to coincide with your eyebrow experience to question it being cluster-related. on 01/04/07 at 12:14:11, swimchica623 wrote:

Title: Re: eyebrows....possibly for the ladies Post by floridian on Jan 4th, 2007, 8:04pm I don't see any differences in the mirror - I have a symmetrical unibrow. Inflammation and mast cells are higher on the affected side, one eyelid sometimes droops or twitches. If the innervation and blood flow is different, that might affect hair growth for some people? 8) |

Title: Re: eyebrows....possibly for the ladies Post by LeeS on Jan 8th, 2007, 1:10pm Apologies for the initial flippancy Swim; and even more apologies for Jonny posting those pictures of my wife! I believe it is always useful to share hypotheses with others here, no matter how bizarre or ludicrous they may seem. Hirsuteness has been studied in relationship to CH ever since it was first established that there tend to be higher levels of testosterone in male sufferers during attacks. Indeed, this was one of the first indicators which suggested that the hypothalamus may be responsible for our disease; together with other alterations in the natural production of a variety of hormones/chemicals that affect the biologic clock. Other historical reports harked on about the distinctive "clusterhead face" being described as leonine, with multi-furrowed and thickened skin, prominent folds, a broad chin, vertical forehead creases, and nasal telangiectasias; and people affected by CH are often tall and rugged-looking! Much of this has been poo-pooed here over the years, but I know of quite a few female sufferers who closely fit the bill (no doubt they'll respond accordingly). However, I believe the relationship between body asymmetry and primary headache may warrant further investigation. It has recently been mooted, for example, that body asymmetry may correlate with gender-differentiated behaviour. I recently read about a neuropsychologist (Doreen Kimura – have a look at wikipedia – now she has definitely got a clusterhead face!) who claims that men with larger right testicles and women with larger right breasts tend to exhibit more typically masculine behaviour; whereas men with larger left testicles and women with larger left breasts tend to exhibit more typical female behaviour! ($10 to anyone - even Jonny - who doesn't now have a sneaky peek!) Hormones are also likely to be key in this respect, namely variations in androgens and oestrogens, so I don't think your idea is as wacky as others may think. Keep battling and all the best with it. -Lee |

Title: Re: eyebrows....possibly for the ladies Post by pubgirl on Jan 8th, 2007, 4:40pm Now THAT makes sense Lee 8) Apology is very pretty, prettier than your wife who still astounds me ;;D. Far more to the hormone relationship with CH than is usually accepted (I think this as you know) W |

Title: Re: eyebrows....possibly for the ladies Post by BarbaraD on Jan 9th, 2007, 6:13am Swim, Have never noticed more hair on the left eyebrow, but my left eyebrow "sweats" profusely. And apparently gets hot cause when I put on sunglasses the left lense fogs up. We all have a lot of strange symptoms and we're all looking for what causes these tings, but so far....... Go ahead and ask your questions and if these silly boys mess with you, I'll take them out behind the barn and give them what for. Hugs BD |

Title: Re: eyebrows....possibly for the ladies Post by Margi on Jan 9th, 2007, 12:44pm Well I certainly hope you are describing the latter because that description of the former actually activates my gag reflex. Perfectly symmetrical here, thank you. Like Julie Andrews. |

Title: Re: eyebrows....possibly for the ladies Post by Margi on Jan 9th, 2007, 1:47pm no, bonehead, I didn't mean I LIKE Julie Andrews, I meant I AM like Julie Andrews. She is one of the few people in recorded history who has perfect symmetry to her face - eyes equally level, nose the right distance from her top lip, ears at the same level, etc. Didn't you know that? Where you been? OK, I'm probably not like her at all, just trying to illustrate a point and I do like her. She does have spectacular breasts I guess. And...right back atcha, babycakes. |

Title: Re: eyebrows....possibly for the ladies Post by peacestock on Jan 9th, 2007, 2:50pm My eyebrows are positioned differently. Hmmm...I think you are on to something here with the eyebrow theory. I think someone should get a grant from the government to do further research into this area. We wouldn't even need a laboratory; just some tweezers and someone will to count eyebrow hair. It's all in the eyebrows... Peacestock |
