Title: Soooo Went to see the Doc & Post by mynm156 on Dec 25th, 2006, 4:18am I got SLAMMED right then and there in his office! I had not meds with me I KNOW I KNOW DUMBASS!! Anyway, My Doc has never seen an attack before and he was IMPRESSED to say the least. He came into the room as I was already into it about 5 mins and was seriously Rampin and asked him right away if he had any samples and he was like PANICING! “You need it right now? You’re having one NOW?! Reminded me of that episode of the Flintstones where Wilma is having the kid and Fred is running around like a SPAZ anyway. He gave me a Sample and an Ice pack and he just watched me Dance and attempt to contain the Beast as best I could. When it was over I told him that was a small one and he told me he had a new found respect for Clusters and from this point on was even more willing to WORK with me. We have even talked about our Favorite Fungal treatment. I wish that it didn’t take that for us tobe really understood but even so I KNOW there are ER docs that see us @ our worst and STILL don’t get it! Good Vibes my Brothers and Sisters and Merry X-mass MYNM156 |

Title: Re: Soooo Went to see the Doc & Post by Linda_Howell on Dec 25th, 2006, 1:11pm That exact same thing happened to me and I was so very embarrassed. I think I was peeling the wall-paper off his walls as he came into the room. THAT...turned out to be the very best thing that has ever happened to me re: CH. Having him witness that. Linda |

Title: Re: Soooo Went to see the Doc & Post by TonyG1 on Dec 26th, 2006, 8:38pm Belated Merry X-mas to you as well!! Sorry it cost you to educate the doc but I suspect you'll get much better treatment and he'll educate himself further on our shared condition! I got slammed twice X-mas a.m. -- Once at 2:30 a.m which wasn't too bad (4 bordering a 5) but when it came back at 5:30 a.m. --- it was the real deal (8 bordering a 9) -- Imitrex is our friend !!! |

Title: Re: Soooo Went to see the Doc & Post by sailpappy on Dec 26th, 2006, 9:54pm ;;D ;;DMYNM156, unfortunately I think most ER Doctors these days are deluged with people trying to get pain meds so they think that when a Clusterhead comes in, thats what they think we are about too. Personally, being chronic like I am, after almost 36 years of this, I would only go to the ER if things have progressed to the point that I am thinking of using the 9mm. But if you tell them that you are hurting that bad they want to Baker Act you and just assume your a druggie. I haven't taken so much as a pain pill in 2 years now. I am afraid to go to the Doctor any longer. I know if I can wait long enough the pain will abate on its own. My only real signifigant relationship with a Doctor was many, many years ago and he saw me have attack after attack. It left him feeling completely useless to help me! Pappy |

Title: Re: Soooo Went to see the Doc & Post by Barry_T_Coles on Dec 26th, 2006, 11:04pm That’s what happened to me before I was diagnosed with CH; I’d been to the ER the day before & had to confront the Sergeant Major of a charge sister on the front counter who obviously thought I was a druggie needing an out of hours fix, by the time I got past this Stonewall Jackson I was on the way down. The next day I went to my normal doctor of 15 years & while in the waiting room I had another come on & asked the sweet young lady behind the counter for somewhere to hide & ride out the hit; I was about half way through the hit when my doc came looking for me & as soon as she saw me she realised I was in need of help, she got me to her room & let me finish the ride & was offering me some injection to rid the pain but I was in no condition to remember what it was she offered. Once I was down to a bearable level she put me through the Cluster Quiz from this site & diagnosed me there & then, had I not got hit at that time I may never have been diagnosed. The rest is as they say history. Cheers Barry |

Title: Re: Soooo Went to see the Doc & Post by seasonalboomer on Dec 28th, 2006, 10:05am One doctor at a time...... I wish we could all have great doctor experiences. My worst was a day when I got hit as I was driving to my office, and it was ramping up quick. Driving was going to be a problem but I was only about a 1/2 mile from our city's largest neurologist practice. So I pulled into the parking lot and stumbled into the front desk and asked if there was a chance I could see anyone -- I had gone to this practice years before. My eyes were streaming with tears, my cluster eye was all screwy, I was a mess and not really jut asking, but begging -- that I was in the middle of a very severe cluster headache and need some help. The response......"what type of insurance do you have?" --- I told her that I have BC/BS...she responded "I'm sorry we can't take that".... I was amazed and it was worsening and told her that I didn't care and said I would pay cash for someone to hit me with an imitrex injection .... "I'm sorry sir, we can't take cash and we can't help you". The only option was the air conditioning vent in my car for 30 minutes in the parking lot. But, one doctor at a time. Scott |

Title: Re: Soooo Went to see the Doc & Post by Sandy_C on Dec 28th, 2006, 12:53pm That's downright criminal, Scott. Especially since you were once a patient there. What the heck is it with doctors today. Don't they teach them bedside manners anymore? Compassion? Caring? It's all about the almighty dollar. Apparently it takes someone to actually get hit in the doc's office before anyone really begins to take notice and understand what CH does to a person. MYNM156, I'm sorry you had to be Sandy |
