Title: bizzarr pain episode, probably not ch Post by gr8googlie on Dec 5th, 2006, 10:58am I was eating dinner with my family last night when I had an instantaneous onset of extreme pain behind my right eye that shot to my ear and back several times along the same path. The incident only lasted 10-15 seconds. Today I can still feel where the pain was. My best descriptions is that it felt like someone took an arc welder to my head and the electricity shot from my eye to my ear. It moved that fast and was that painful. For a minute I wondered if I had had a stroke (which I realize that's not how a stroke feels). Afterward there was a little tearing but no swelling or anything like that. I've had a similar occurance a few times over the last few years, but this one was by far the most painful and longest lasting. Any idea what this was? |

Title: Re: bizzarr pain episode, probably not ch Post by slhaas on Dec 6th, 2006, 3:11am I too think there may be something with the TMJ. It is indeed possible that it could be a start of cluster headaches. When I first started experiencing them it would only be a headache here and there, and the cycles built to a more regular pattern, and then increased in intensity. |

Title: Re: bizzarr pain episode, probably not ch Post by MJ on Dec 6th, 2006, 11:46am This used to be a common occurence with me. I call them bullet or bam hits. They never lasted more than a couple seconds and occured in the temple area where my CH hits are located. Being hit by a bullet is what it feels like. they were strong enough to allmost knock me over. Additionally I would turn an immediate lighter shade of white and all color would drain from my face. I can understand why the first thought would be a stroke. Immediate, intense, sudden and short. Never found a proper explanation for this. |

Title: Re: bizzarr pain episode, probably not ch Post by gr8googlie on Dec 6th, 2006, 3:57pm I think the first response hit the nail on the head. It definitely fits what I felt. About.com had a pretty good article on ice pick headaches. http://headaches.about.com/od/otherheadpain/a/ice_picks.htm The part I find strange is another day later I can still feel where it was, like there was a physical wound created. No other ill effects though. |
