Title: passing out? Post by swimchica623 on Nov 23rd, 2006, 11:27pm Has anyone passed out from the pain (or maybe the banging) from the clusters? How common is it? |

Title: Re: passing out? Post by BB on Nov 23rd, 2006, 11:38pm Hi My husband has been through some pretty horrific pain with CH but he never passed out, although at times both of us wished he would, as it would have at least stopped him from feeling the pain. I havent heard or read of anyone here passing out from the pain either. Painfree wishes to you. Annette |

Title: Re: passing out? Post by georgej on Nov 23rd, 2006, 11:53pm No, I've never passed out. I've wished that I could, but it's never happened. If anything, I'm all too conscious. I occasionally hear of someone here who has, but if it occurs, I don't think it's very common. I'm sure I'll be corrected if I am incorrect. ;) Best, George |

Title: Re: passing out? Post by sailpappy on Nov 24th, 2006, 12:31am ;;DNever passed out from the pain, but I have gotten my head too cold a few times and had an event similar! More like a mini stroke than passing out! I do know that some medications can cause you to come very close, Elavil for one caused me to almost pass out just from standing up! Pappy If you or someone you know is passing out from Cluster Pain I would advise you to get to a hospital and get an MRI or MRA done ASAP!!! |

Title: Re: passing out? Post by Spoticus on Nov 24th, 2006, 6:25am I have never passed out from the pain exactly, I honestly think at least half of us wish that was possible :) When I had my first ever attack my legs gave out under me a few times from the odd sudden spike of pain, but I never lost conciousness. At the end of my most recent cycle I do have a pass out story. I hadn't had a nights sleep in 16 days from a combination of prescribed meds that didnt help anyway and attacks ruining every attempt at sleep. I think my body seriously just shut down. It was 8amish the day of my cousins wedding and I was on the phone arranging with my family what time they were going to pick me up. Then that is the last thing I remember. I woke up at 1pm on my bed with my family ringing trying to make me answer the door :p I was on my bed upstairs and had no memory of what at happened and was totally out of it for at least 2-3 minutes. It took 20 minutes to find where I had put my glasses (without my glasses ;)), inexplicably downstairs on a storage box where I would never normally leave them. I then couldn't find my wallet and didn't find it for a further 3 weeks (it was hidden inside the passenger side of the car door). I ended up turning up, unshaven for 16ish days, unironed clothing, and unshowered as we were running so late by the time I got my glasses. Anyway I had a long day at a wedding with a kip 10 hiding for the most part in the toilets chatting to every guest that came in thinking I was excessively drunk or something (must of had the 'like a migraine?' convo 30 times in 2hrs :p). Met some cool people though and generally enjoyed myself as much as is possible in that condition even though I distressed everyone else I think :( |

Title: Re: passing out? Post by swimchica623 on Nov 24th, 2006, 9:52am Thanks for your replies....during my last hospitalization I did pass out twice I think. There could have been a few added reasons to it though. My dad said that the medicines they gave me knocked me out so that I was breathing only once every 20 seconds and then they had to get me medicine to REVERSE that and I think I passed out then. This was also a rough spell of kip 10s again and again and again, a lot of them waking me up so I wonder if some of the passing out was pure exhaustion, somehow exhaustion winning out over the pain? With the help of those hospital meds of course. Who knows, it ws probably medicine induceded though, thanks for your replies. :-) |

Title: Re: passing out? Post by Redd715 on Nov 24th, 2006, 11:03am I've passed out once. Not from the pain per-say, but after 3 back to back Kip 9s I think I was just so worn out, I just passed out on the floor when the last hit was over. My kids just covered me up with the afgan, and my son slept on the couch in case the beast woke me up so he could run the ice packs for me again if need be. Thank the powers that be I slept the night through. |

Title: Re: passing out? Post by swimchica623 on Nov 24th, 2006, 11:21am yeah....this was similar. this was i lost count of how many kip 10s i had had but i ended up being hospitalized for a week from them. the passing out also came at the end of the attack, so maybe it was from the exhaustion. they sure did wipe me out!!! im still exhausted...i left a message in the medicine section wondering if its from the new medicines or the amount of attacks i was getting! today ive just gotten the energy to sit in a recliner and do some homework...baby steps!!! ;) |

Title: Re: passing out? Title: Re: passing out? Post by lost4eva on Nov 26th, 2006, 12:02pm hi ya im under a neurologist who said it was cluster headaches, its taken them a long time to work out what it was because i pass out, i sufferd from fits for a few years, then the headaches started a while after that, lots of my symptoms were confused between the fits and the headaches but doc is now sure they are seperate. and the pain im in now is cluster headaches,at the moment drugs dont seem to be helping me at all. reading through the message boards on here i can relate to lots of them. the pain i feel seems the same as many of you, its the worst pain ive ever had and all seems to be behind my right eye and side of my face and my eyelid swells, nose blocks and all i want to do is make it stop, sometimes i think my head will explode from pushing it with the palm of my hand. im sorry if you feel i dont have what you have ! |

Title: Re: passing out? Post by Charlotte on Nov 26th, 2006, 12:59pm lost, that's not why i asked if you were struggling on your own or with a doc's care. As you konw, this can be very hard to sort out. If people here know what you've already done or eliminated, we might have some suggestions where to turn. Please don't be overly sensitive. I'm sometimes overly sensitive, myself. I have a difficult to diagnose set of symptoms myself, and I know how hard it is to eliminate everything and deal with what is left, and start over many times when something doesn't work or has too many side effects. If you hadn't seen a doc or neuro, we wanted to encourage you to do so. I'm glad you have, and sorry it hasn't seemed to help. Personally, I'm still curious as to what drugs you tried and how they did or did not work. Also, if you had a heart problem or were taking verapamil, I would not want to tell you to chug a red bull, but if none of those were a problem, i'd suggest slamming an ice cold red bull or other energy drink at the first sign of a headache, as that often helps me. Also, a lot of us have some relief with either cold showers, or hot sowers. Charlotte |

I don't think these people would want me here under that symptom. You might consider a new Neuro if this is really the case! JMHO Pappy PS you might want to check the links to the left out "Cluster Quiz" Nothing Personal in my message, just the symptoms don't fit cluster Headaches |

Title: Re: passing out? Post by Sean_C on Nov 26th, 2006, 7:01pm Lost, as the others have said, it doesn't sound like clusters to us. Clusters aren't constant pain, the pain comes in "clusters," as Pappy said, what we consider a kip 7, if it were constant, none of us would be here to tell the tale. A person with clusters will be totally painfree, when an attack will come, the pain accellerates very quickly, and last usually less than 1 hour if unmedicated, then the pain usually stops just as fast as it started. Most patients have this happen app. 6 +/- times every 24 hours when in cycle. I think Hemicrania Continua is a possiblity for the headaches. As for the passing out, i've never had that happen, ever. I could only wish my brain would shut off during a kip 10. Best of luck at your next nuero appointment. Sean.............................................. edit: This link is a video of someone here that was having a cluster headache, Chuck is chronic, and has as many as 15 attacks per day, he states this was a kip 7. http://www.clusterbusters.com/chuckattack2.wmv |

Title: Re: passing out? Post by Barry_T_Coles on Nov 26th, 2006, 8:32pm Passing out is how I gauge a ten on the KIP scale; when the mind & body just cant take any more it switches off, when I was going through the peak of my last cycle before I went chronic and was getting 2 – 3 10s a day and passing out but not for long enough when I came to I was still getting hit but at a lower scale. The only other time I’ve passed out like that from pain was when I damaged my sacriliac bone & that was painful. Regards Barry Just thought I should add that was happening before I found out about o2. Barry |

I've done it, but only for a moment or two. The first time it ever happened to me I was working as a courier, and was on 270 in St Louis. I started getting hit massive and so took an exit and pulled into a parking lot. I don't even remember putting on the emergency brake and taking the car out of gear, but was lifting my head off of the steering wheel in a fullblown kip 10. This has only happened a few times, but has freaked me out every time, especially since it is not a common cluster trait. Peace, Carl |

Title: Re: passing out? Post by UN solved on Nov 27th, 2006, 8:21am I agree with the others lost ... doesn't sound like clusters to me either. Anyone in constant pain is not suffering from cluster pain. Find another neuro and get a good dx. Goodluck & PF Wishes UNsolved IF we could pass out during Kip 10's ... it would be a blessing !! Title: Re: passing out? Post by NovellRed on Nov 27th, 2006, 7:45pm It hasn't happened to me for quite a few years. In the early years before O2 I would have a bad one and when it was over I would find myself laying on the floor with my head in a corner. I think I would try to drive my head into the corner (where the walls and the floor meet) during the worst of it and then as it eased up I would just pass out from exhaustion. |

Title: Re: passing out? Post by ccbiggsoo7 on Dec 3rd, 2006, 11:06pm i've passed out to many times to count. I think its just so intense that the headaches draw so much out of you that it just drains your body. Doctor said nothing to worry about it's just your body naturally shutting itself down from experiencing such a traumatic incident. Kinda like a shock thing i guess. Good luck |
