Title: Ice Cold Water on Neck! Post by Lafinwolff on Nov 22nd, 2006, 2:11pm I LOVE to play hockey and I am trying to find ways to keep playing! I now have a portable O2 tank & mask and the Imitrex shots. I use this set up JUST for hockey. I have a larger O2 tank at home and access to O2 at work. My last game, I did not have this set up. We were half way through the 3rd (last) period when I felt it closing in! We were losing and I didn't want to quit. My girlfriend was on the bench in case I needed help. She noticed (one eye drooping) that it was starting. I didn't plan to tell her, afraid she'd make me quit. She took my water bottle and started pouring Ice cold water on the back of my neck. It seemed to stop it's forward progress. She immediately got a large Red Bull into me so I could finish the game. Just thought I'd pass it on! |

Title: Re: Ice Cold Water on Neck! Post by Guiseppi on Nov 22nd, 2006, 2:42pm There is something about the cold. In a pinch I'll put my face in front of my car AC and hyperventilate through the affected sides nostril. It'll ratchet the pain down a few clicks for me, keep it bearable. Whatever works those times you find yourself without meds!!! Guiseppi |

Title: Re: Ice Cold Water on Neck! Post by sailpappy on Nov 22nd, 2006, 5:32pm ;;DCold water is my everyday abortive, when I feel a hit coming I head for the shower, I run cold water over the side of my head, while standing on the outside of the shower, draping the shower curtain across my chest to avert the water from running all over the floor. When I am away from the house I carry a Gallon zip-top bag full of crushed ice in a cooler. I use the cooler to catch the water that melts from the ice bag and for any emergency eruptions! This has been working consistantly for me for 35 years! Pappy |

I guess ice or ice cold water on neck does something to these nerve ganglions and reduce the pain, has worked very well for many people including my husband. You can take a look at the thread, there are some really interesting diagrams there. Painfree wishes. Annette |

Title: Re: Ice Cold Water on Neck! Post by johnd7 on Nov 26th, 2006, 11:17pm Oh damn, you guys just gave me an idea. I usually try a bag of frozen peas but I just remembered that about 3 years ago after a bad car accident and surgeries on my leg and knee I got this continuous cold therapy machine. It's like a six pack cooler with a pump. You fill with ice and water, velcro the brace to your knee or wherever and when you turn it on the ice water flows through tubes on the brace continuosly, and it gets really cold also. I am gonna just set that pad on my head and turn that sucker on! I mean I don't expect it to be a cure all but it will be a fun diversion the first time. |
