Title: Is it Possible?
Post by starlight on Oct 25th, 2006, 6:57pm
Since I don't know anyone's birthdate except kcopelin I'm gonna ask this question:

Is it possible that there is a likelihood of CH sufferers having been born close to either of the solstices (times when the day is either at its longest or shortest)?
The solstices are June 21 and December 22.

To me, this makes sense to ask this question as these headaches are timeclock headaches, some say influenced by seasonal changes in light.

My birthday is June 13.

Also there are the equinoxes:  times when day and night are same length--
March 21 and Sep 21.
Its food for thought anyway.

I like to watch Bethany taking walks on the beach while holding lit candles and wearing a black jumpsuit and nikes like the rest of my disciples who will join the ONE  as the planets allign and we find the link to CHers once and for all.

Alright, alright...I know I am sounding like an alien being combined with mad scientist...but check it out I just checked out the net and found a study done on infants and production of melatonin being dependent on season of birth...now I need to go read the darn thing...so maybe my question is not quite as...well...dumb as it sounds.  I will need to check out article to determine that :)
The stubborn and cynical welcome to respond with birth dates.  Love to you all.  Star

Here's the link if anyone wants to read it or scan it:

http://www.pedresearch.org/cgi/reprint/49/1/63.pdf

I have only had time to scan it--but it seems to be saying that melatonin production in infants for some time is effected by month of birth.

There is even discussion in there about the development of the pineal gland prenatally and the way it may be effected by mother's melatonin production, again I have only scanned it--but there may be something here of interest.

YEs this is all true.
I know that when we are ready to try to conceive our next child we will try to account for every moment that he/she could possibly be born on so that it does not fall near any of the above mentioned.

Some are predisposed to (fill in the blank) while others are not.

Catch my drift.

I think it is important to research our disorder and to try to find new ways of finding relief but don't go crazy trying to allign the moons :-*

BTW I hate Autumn. It is my high season. It once was my favorite and now I get slightly anxious because they are increasing in frequency again.

Maybe it's in the stars my dear.

I was born next door to a methadone clinic.

Any connection there?

E-Double,

Come on, that was not my point--to avoid conceiving a child near the equinoxes or solstices!  E-Double!!!  I know there are oodles and oodles of babies born near equinoxes and solstices and every other date imaginable who will not develop cluster headaches.

I have been shadowing lately after ceasing cycle a few weeks ago...maybe it is because I am a looney Gemini but that is how I react to the presence of these clusters, I start brainstorming or something.

But the thing is don't we need to think outside the box with these things?
I guess I am just frustrated at how elusive they are...I don't know...maybe nothing satisfies me in terms of the explanations given because they remain a medical mystery in many respects.

My psychic prediction is that it will be a dumb questions (albeit not one of mine) that cracks open the door on these...I don't know why I just think it will be a strange, dumb question.

My neuro asked me when I started my last cycle "Can you think of anything different that happened or that you felt the past couple weeks before these started again?  Doesn't matter how strange, bizarre, stupid, just tell me if you can think of anything different, anything at all."

I kind of understand his angle...the frustration at the elusiveness.

Well, anyway, I am going to go put my metal hat back on and get back in touch with my spaceship.  Love to you all!  Star

Great find starlight - I shall digest and get back to you.

BTW, December 4th (although I was 2-3 weeks premature, which according to this research, maybe important).

Edited to add:  BTW again, this link may interest you:

Edited to add again: BTW again, again - I think the survey is still live.  Anyone interested try:

One vote only though please!

Sorry - another edit - the poll may still be live, but the end-source is yet to be confirmed - sorry :-/

Thank you everyone who has replied here!

Lee, thanks a million for the support and for the link--which definitely may add credibility to this idea of mine!  I also tried to vote but it does not go through for some reason.  It is really interesting that someone else is doing a similar survey and has managed to get a large number of respondents.

Between these 2 threads I have running--I have not counted anything up, but it has jumped out at me that multiple birthdays do fall very close to either the equinoxes or the solstices--some falling right on the date or amazingly close--Lee if you factor in your prematurity at birth, you would have been born probably exactly on the winter solstice--and were born quite close to it as it was.

I think this survey is worth pursuing further.
In fact, it begs the question of whether episodics and chronics tend to cluster around certain dates.  For example, is it more likely that episodics will have been born near to a solstice....or an equinox?  If so, why?  What can that tell us about cluster headaches?  When were chronics born?  Is there any difference between the two in terms of birth date trends?  But that question about episodics and chronics could be answered by myself or someone else refining this survey under another thread and asking about chronic and episodic to see if anything can be determined.

Right now we need birth dates.

Love to you all,
Starlight

not to burst your bubble, but I think you'll find that clusterheads are born just like non-clusterheads.  The difference is that the clusterheads are born with a dodgy hypothalmus.  Yes, some of them (but not all) go into cycle at season change but that's also determined by the hypothalmus (circadian rhythm)...

Here's a partial b-day list I have for folks here:

donna 1/14
Piper 1/31
Elaine 2/25
Sailpappy 3/7
Hub 3/14
Ueli 3/19
Drummer 3/30
Carl 4/20
Jack Boyd 5/2
Den 6/1
Slammy 7/16
Ted 8/16
Charlie 8/23
Jonny 9/4
Jayne 9/13
Paco 10/9
TerryS 10/12
Blake 10/17
DJ 10/25
BobP 11/15
"LeeS" 12/4

all over the calendar - every month, beginning, middle and end.

Hey starlight, I've been banging on for years about dodgy circadium/circanual rhythms - it's all to do with a dodgy "third eye" - I kid you not.  (Ask Flo! ;))

Margi,

Thanks for the list.  Yes we are born with dodgy hypothalamus, but could that have something to do with which months in utero even?  Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that it has been proven that the hypothalamus is malformed at birth although it is strongly theorized.  Day length at birth--it is intriguing what effect that could have.  Or simply which months spent in utero.
Also perhaps, and I say only perhaps, chronics and episodics may tend towards clutering towards different birth months/seasons/ or dates which could tell us something about this disorder.  Another big question mark is why are some episodic and some chronic--could birthdate effect this?
Merely questions, and thanks for the list.  Star

I'm staying away from the birthdate thing, but this is interesting, and new to me:

I'm figuring that you're talking about the pineal gland.  Well,

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=16606930&dopt=Abstract

http://cat.inist.fr/?aModele=afficheN&cpsidt=14190972

...and lots of other stuff.  Floridian has some information up as well.

But this pineal gland stuff is off-topic, and should be in a whole 'nother thread.

Best,

George

George,

I have thought about the pineal gland as well and the third eye as I am into new age stuff--chakras and all that.  By the way, it's not off topic--I posted a link in one of these 2 threads that addresses the way the development of the pineal gland in utero is effected by the mother's own melatonin levels which in turn is effected by her exposure to light/day length.  Thank you for including these links--I am eager to read them.  Star
