Title: Facing possible SURGERY - need your HELP!!! Post by cornetet on Oct 8th, 2006, 2:07am I suffer from migraine headaches where I start with a deep dull pain in the middle of my head and eventually makes its way directly behind&above one particular eye. The entire pain episode is on one side of my head (mostly right, occassionally left). I can usually get through the 2-3 hour episode with two Advil LiquaGels and standing in a very HOT shower with HOT water continously pouring over my head on the side with the pain for 20-30min. In the last 2 months my migraines have changed to a feeling like I have alot of sinus pressure behind one eye, then develops into a sharp pinpoint migraine. I went into a ENT Doctor last week for this sinus mystery and he looked down my nosals and said I have a DEVIATED SEPTUM with a polyp laying on the septum. He mentioned that he wants to do SEPTOPLASTY surgery on me to fix the deviated septum. I went for a Sinus CT scan that same day....After getting the report back from the Radiologist, my septum is S-shaped and confirmed there is a couple of polyps. My cousin had Septoplasty surgery done for his deviated septum and he said it was "brutal" pain-wise but worth it (8 out of a scale of 10)....but he suffered from constant sinus infections. I have NO sinus infections, just sinus pain and pressure and then pinpoint migraines behind one eye. I NEED YOUR OPINION!!!! IS THIS SEPTOPLASTY WORTH ALL THE PAIN OF SURGERY AND RECOVERY? OR AM I GOING THRU ALL THIS....JUST TO CONTINUE TO HAVE MIGRAINES?!? NEED EVERYONE's ADVICE |

Title: Re: Facing possible SURGERY - need your HELP!!! Post by BB on Oct 8th, 2006, 2:41am Hello Sorry to hear you have so much pain and then the polyps as well. One of our member here Dr Hisham is a ENT surgeon, and he has offered to answer our questions on things ENT related so I hope he will be able to help you. In the mean time I am a bit confused as to whether you have migraine or cluster? There is no such thing as a migraine cluster headache. Have you seen a neurologist to get an accurate diagnosis? Have you ever tried oxygen as abortive treatment? Take care and painfree wishes to you. Annette |

If you didn't get migraines, and an ENT suggested the surgery after just having a look, would you be considering this operation? Have you had your The correct headache diagnosis is the most important thing to have before knowing the correct and most effective treatments. I'd say, and it is just my opinion, that: 1.If you have migraines, I wouldn't have the operation if you're just considering it as a headache cure. 2. If you have clusters, I wouldn't have the operation if you're just considering it as a headache cure. Bobw |

Title: Re: Facing possible SURGERY - need your HELP!!! Post by clusterwife on Oct 10th, 2006, 4:46pm Do your homework! My hubby had TN surgery on his left side, and two years later, the headaches switched sides to the right. Is it worth it, maybe not. But, he did enjoy every minute of those two years. Hope this helps, leah. |
