During this cluster cycle I have experienced extreme pain to some rear molar teeth, lower and upper, to the point of touching the tooth will produce pain. :-/

This pain seems to go from left rear to right rear. I now can touch my left side molar without too much discomfort, but the right side is now sore. What the heck is going on now?

I was trying to wait until this cycle is over before going to the dentist.

John, it's probably not your teeth at all. More probably it's because your sinuses are swollen and pushing down on the roots of your teeth. That explains the top molar pain, not sure about the bottom ones unless it's transferrance of pain and that CAN happen too. (I had a root canal once and because it was quite infected, my dentist told me about pain transferrance and why I was feeling pain in a totally healthy tooth - the bad tooth had kind of reached its pain threshhold, so it had to "share".)

My hubby (and countless other clusterheads) has had teeth removed because of this same pain and....he still have clusters and a few missing molars. Don't go down that road unless you're absolutely sure (your dentist can confirm via x-ray) that it IS your tooth!

The yellow nerve in the temple in this pic is the CH pain nerve, it goes right down to the teeth....Is this your problem?....I dunno!

I was at the point that pulling would be a relief. I will go for xrays/exam when this thing is over. I just had an exam about two months ago and had some work done to these same teeth.

How many of us have had our wisdom teeth pulled? I know that this is totally off subject but mine actually started right after I got my teeth pulled. Who knows how that could even be related just curious. :D :)

I have caps on several teeth from grinding them together to stop the pain. Having read several posts about people having their teeth pulled trying to seek relief I realize I didn't have it so bad. That damn nerve manages to touch every inch of your face in some way or another!!! Good luck

Anytime during cycle, hits always feel like your teeth are swollen and sore. Many peeps go to the dentist prior to getting diagnosed thinking that's why they get CH's. Johhny's pic shows the nerves leading to the teeth area.

Thanks everybody.

I'm calling the dentist Wednesday and obtainning some antibiotics in the event of some infection/abscess is going on. I have a slight fever and intermittent chills this P.M.

This problem is a breeze compared to these headaches.

We've had this question many times over the years and it's always a surprise for folks who experience tooth pain. For me, the intensity of my attack was measured by how many teeth hurt at any one time!

My teeth hurt to the point that I've been to the dentist several times and he can't find anything wrong with my teeth.

And I don't have any wisdom teeth yet (that either means I'm awfully DUMB or I'm going to live to be REALLY old - old wives take - when you cut your last wisdom tooth your life is 1/2 over [smiley=huh.gif] )

Hi I posted "Cluster Changed Sides" This year when it changed sides it also started in my upper left molar instead of my neck. Check out my post...

Severe tooth pain is not uncommon in CH attacks and unfortunately leads many to have unnecessary dental work done.

I frequently experience pain in my teeth during attacks, primarily my upper jaw/from the eye tooth back - on the side of my attacks. Lower jaw/tooth pain seems to occur only during the most severe attacks but it feels like a sudden severe tooth infection in every tooth socket.

As highlighted in the diagram Jonny provided - the yellow nerves to the tooth/jaw areas are branches of the Trigeminal nerve that delivers the pain experienced by CH Sufferers.

The nerve itself is not the source of our pain as in the case of Trigeminal Neuralgia, only a symptom of CH that appears to stem from abnormal or enlarged Hypothalamus' of sufferers.

This gland, located in the deep brain is responsible for linking our bodies electrical and chemical systems by synthsizing and secreting neurohormones and regulating many metobolic processes and autonomic activities such as sleep/wake cycles.

The follwing link covers some of the procedures used to temporarily damage the Trigemenal nerve to provide relief from Trigeminal Neuralgia. These same procudrues have been used in CH patients but the success rate is less than 50%, facial numbness and sagging are side effects and repeat procedures necessary because when the nerve repairs itself the symptoms of CH return.

Hi John,

In my journey to diagnosis, I started at the dentist. When I have hits, all three branches of the Trigeminal nerve go insane. Feels like all the teeth on my hit side, both upper and lower have been shatered and are dangling in the pulp that used to be the side of my head. Funny thing is even the empty spots where I have had teeth removed hurt like they need root canals. Also the gums, roof of my mouth and ear are quite painful. I find myself sometimes trying to massage my gums also.

On another note, the chills and fever are often signs of infection of some sort. Recommend seeing a doctor or dentist if it persists. May not be stemming from your teeth though.

I figured orginally that it was ALL CH related since the pain was all over the place with different teeth, etc., but then had swelling in the gums on my right lower side, sore throat, glands swollen (right side). I called my dentist (personal friend) and he called in a RX for antibiodics. He said that during my last visit a filling on the right rear molar near the margin was really deep and probably the drill hit the root. :o

I made an appointment for Monday--I guess another extraction is in the works.

I'll need a blender to eat after this one ;;D

Sometimes it shoots kinda down from my eye to my back molars those are usually the heavy Kips!

During the worst attacks, every tooth on that side is killin' me ! :'( It's aweful !!

Please, please, please :o don't have any teeth pulled until you are very sure that it is the teeth and not Mr. Bastard that is causing your pain. Several of us around here have had teeth pulled that didn't have to be pulled because of theis thing call cluster headaches. :-*
