Title: Question Post by malbers on Sep 29th, 2006, 12:35pm [smiley=huh.gif] First, I would like to thank everyone who responded to me yesturday! I (like I said yesturday was diagnosed by my neurologist with cluster headaches. They are not debilitating as some, but scary just the same. I am going into my 8th week, and they have subsided tremendously, but I am plagued with this stabbing feeling on top of my head on the side with the headache, does anyone experience this. I am getting an attack every 3-4 days now, but constantly feel this stabbing sensation on my head. Does anyone experience this? Thanks, Marie |

Title: Re: Question Post by Bob_Johnson on Sep 29th, 2006, 3:37pm Not an unusual experience but there is no universal experience of CH--fair amount of variation which often changes for some months or even years after your first attack shows itself. Right now, key is to start learning about the various treatments available and find a good headache doc to work with. Here is a link to read and print and take to your doctor. It describes preventive, transitional, abortive and surgical treatments for CH. Written by one of the better headache docs in the U.S. (2002) http://www.brightok.net/~mnjday/chtherapy.pdf |

Title: Re: Question Post by clusterwife on Sep 29th, 2006, 10:03pm My hubby says it's like an icepick stabbing combined with an ice cream brain freeze. Then he wants an ice pack, he swears it helps. Seems to me it would do the opposite, but I have to take his word. |

Title: Re: Question Post by TonyYZF on Sep 29th, 2006, 10:26pm Malbers, I have been having similar issues. My cycle peaked about 15 August. I am still having stabs in the temple, top of the head, eye area and above my right ear (right side hits). The more intense jabs only last 30 seconds to about 2 minutes. Otherwise I am having discomfort throughout the right side intermittently throughout the day for longer durations. Occasionally I get some pain on the left side like it is trying to switch sides. Sorry, but I am a newbie and haven't figured this stuff out yet, but from others I have corresponded with, these may just be residual shadows. Kinda reminds me more of hemicrania type stuff, but whie I was getting the severe hits, indomethacin had no effect. Keep us posted. If there is one thing I have learned, it is that often there seems to be no rhyme or reason and everyone has a wide variety of specific symptoms. Luck to you. Look for me in chat sometime. Tony |

Title: Thank you again Post by malbers on Oct 1st, 2006, 7:19am ;) Thank you all again. I feel some comfort in knowing I am not in this alone. This is to clusterwife whose husband says these attacks feel like "Brain freeze!" That is exactly how I described this to my neurologist. Tomorrow is my MRI. I am terrified! :-[ |

Title: Re: Question Post by Jobette on Oct 1st, 2006, 7:23am Why be afraid of a MRI when you have been dancing with the devil? But you MRI will probably say the same thing that so many of ours did, nothing. But good luck anyway. ;) |

Title: Re: Question Post by Carl_D on Oct 1st, 2006, 6:03pm Don't sweat the MRI. It is a piece of cake. Just hang in there. My scalp on the right side feels like it has needles in it, and as a result I hate having hair on my head. I get the ice picks that last briefly when not getting a CH (last a few seconds, then over). Is this what you are talking about, or do you mean during an attack? During an attack, the whole right side of my head feels like it is against a grinding wheel. Peace, Carl |

Title: Re: Question Post by malbers on Oct 2nd, 2006, 8:50am Thank you for responding. I find that first at the on set I can feel a neddle/ tingling/burning sensation on the top of the left side of my head where the headaches are, then after an attack it feels very sore on the whole left side of my head, that if my hair is moved by wind etc. it feels like someone is pulling it out. |
