Title: Quick question about Imitrex Nasal Spray Post by eyepopper on Sep 20th, 2006, 7:29pm I'm in cycle and am using Imitrex Nasal Spray as an abortive for the first time. (I had been using Relpax tablets, but they didn't work well. My new neuro said that they acted too slowly to be effective for me.) Anyway, a few hours ago I got hit and used the Spray. I was surprised. In very short order, the trex spray knocked out the beast! My question for the spray users is, how do you deal with the really lousy taste that you get periodically!?! (yuk!) I followed the package instructions and kept my head upright and didn't inhale deeply, but every once in a while, I'd get an awful taste of the stuff. I guess I should just "shut up" and be happy it worked, but still I'd appreciate advice from the pros. Thanks in advance. Deb P.S. I guess the doc didn't give me the injectable stuff, because he thought I was a chicken. P.S.S. I'm having oxygen delivered tomorrow, which will be my "first line" abortive. |

Title: Re: Quick question about Imitrex Nasal Spray Post by BigCoffinHunter on Sep 20th, 2006, 7:47pm I use the Zomig spray. I block the nostril on my cluster side, shoot it up my other nostril, breathing in lightly. I then pinch my nose closed, and lean forward. I inhale just enough to keep the spray from dripping out. This seems to keep it in my nose and out of my mouth, where it goes to waste. |

Title: Re: Quick question about Imitrex Nasal Spray Post by Theresa on Sep 20th, 2006, 8:10pm Hi Deb, Glad to hear you are getting relief from the Imitrex spray. Trex nasal spray is all I use to abort my attacks and so far it's working most of the time, however you're right the taste you get in your mouth is HORRIBLE. I usually keep a glass of juice nearby and when I start tasting the spray I take a sip. I have also tried chewing gum right after and that helps a little too. The taste is terrible but I'll take that over the hits anyday. |

Lousy taste? You've never had my wife's cooking. Never noticed the taste, or just ignored it as the pain relief kicked in. Maybe it's because I switched to Zomig. Maybe it's just her lousy cooking. O2 may change everything. Hap |

Title: Re: Quick question about Imitrex Nasal Spray Post by pangel110 on Sep 20th, 2006, 8:45pm I've used Imitrex Nasal spray for around 4 years now and find it to work best to abort clusters. Yes it does taste nasty when it starts going down your throat, but to have your cluster be gone in 5-10 minutes as opposed to an hour or so, that taste is tolerable. I've had chronic clusters since 1999 and don't know where I'd be without imitrex and O2. |

Title: Re: Quick question about Imitrex Nasal Spray Post by eyepopper on Sep 22nd, 2006, 4:10pm Thanks to all for the suggestions. I'm going to take you up on them, and continue to use the Imitrex nasal spray. The stuff really helped me the other night, despite the bad taste. (A small price to pay to keep the beast a bay!) ...and, any excuse to eat, especially chocolate, is ok in my book! Also, my oxygen tanks were delivered yesterday. I tried them out on a "shadow" about an hour ago, and the pain completely disappeared! Yippee!! . . . and thanks too for all the laughs. Hap, you're gonna be in BIG trouble if your wife has access to a computer and see the comments you made about her cooking! I'm sure she's used to you though. Thanks for making me smile! I really appreciate it! One last thing . . . once again, thanks to the cluster family for the incredible help. Without your wisdom, I would have never sought out the help of a caring, well-qualified doctor who understood and could help. I would have never been able to piece through the things that I needed to do. There ain't a better group of people in the world! Deb [smiley=hug.gif] |

Title: Re: Quick question about Imitrex Nasal Spray Post by wip5150 on Sep 22nd, 2006, 10:43pm I've used Imitrex nasal as an abortive for over 10 years and, while the taste can rival that of an armadillo's ass, I care not when my Kip 8 goes "bye bye". I consider the horrid taste as some sort of sign that the beast is gone. If I'm pissed off about the taste, I must feel better. :) |
