Title: Advill Cold & Sinus ????? Post by knifeinskull on Sep 15th, 2006, 8:33pm Hi everyone. I did a search on advill & the only thing that came up was my post from yesterday. I no longer take pills for my C.H. but ten years ago when I started getting them I noticed if I took Advill cold & sinus at the first sign of an attack they wouln't last more than 30 mins. Sometimes they would be gone in less than 15 mins. Now I don't know if its just me but it might be worth a shot to try it AS SOON AS YOU FEEL THE FIRST SIGN OF AN ATTACK. Please note I'm not a doctor by any means. I know some people will try anything to get rid of em. |

Then you had a full blown sinus infections/headache. There is no way in hell that a sinus pill is going to be broken down and get through your blood stream in under 20 minutes. |

Title: Re: Advill Cold & Sinus ????? Post by MJ on Sep 15th, 2006, 9:56pm A few sufferers get relief from the antihistamines found in some cold medications.. You may want to look at getting a prescription for periactin wich is an antihistamine if the cold med works for you a little bit. The downside of Advil (Ibuprofen) is that it can add rebound headaches to the mix. |

Title: Re: Advill Cold & Sinus ????? Post by MJ on Sep 15th, 2006, 10:41pm The medication Knife reffered to was advil Cold and Sinus. I discounted the advil, but the "pseudophedrine" an antihistamine like drug in the OTC med has helped some in some cases. Aspirin does even less for CH. |

Post by knifeinskull on Sep 16th, 2006, 8:33am So JONNY I don't suffer from C.H. then you try telling my boss that when I'm sitting in my truck banging my hand agaist the dash or when my girlfriend feels so bad that there is nothing she can do when I'm pacing back & forth & how about as I type this with 1 hand b/c the other is pushing on my left temple!!!! All I am saying is that in helped me in the past. ONE more thing JONNY maybe you should type advill in that search engine 1 more time & see what comes up. Why don't you get back to me after that. |

Title: Re: Advill Cold & Sinus ????? Post by BB on Sep 16th, 2006, 5:10pm Advil Cold and Flu had antihistamine in it, that is the only thing that may help THE PAIN of CH but there is NO MEDICAL WAY that it can ABORT a REAL CH attack. Remember that CH attack is caused by VASODILATATION of the blood vessels inside the brain, by the release of serotonin which is a vasodilator. Histamine is also released which adds on to the effect of serotonin by causing inflammation, and reducing pain threshold. But the release of histamine ALONE can not cause or trigger a REAL cluster attack. Remember that ALL medication that is used to abort CH are VASOCONSTRICTOR such as oxygen, triptans, ergotamines and caffeine. Antihistamine alone can not vasoconstrict, thats why it can not abort a CH attack. Also please note that the OP says that this was his experience 10 years ago. How can he be so sure that those headaches he had 10 years ago were actually CH. During a CH active cycle, one's short term memory is quite badly affected. Can one possibly remember that clearly 10 years ago if the headaches lasted only 15 mins? They could well be something else. Anyone decides to act on his suggestion please take care. JMHO. Annette |

Title: Re: Advill Cold & Sinus ????? Post by Jonny on Sep 16th, 2006, 5:26pm "Advill" ?......Never heard of it. |

Title: Re: Advill Cold & Sinus ????? Post by BB on Sep 16th, 2006, 6:11pm Wrong spelling , should be Advil, only 1 L, sorry Jonny. Advil itself is anti-inflammatory , also known as brufen, ibuprofen, ACT-3, Motrin, Nurofen or Nuprin. By itself it does nothing for the severe pain of a real CH attack. Advil Cold and Flu contains some anti histamine as explained above. Annette |
