Hello Everyone!

I have a scheduled surgery (not cluster related) next week. Right now I'm in the middle of my cluster cycle. About another month to go. Has anyone had surgery while in the middle of a cycle?

How do you deal with a hospital stay? O2?

I fear waking up from the anastesia with a CH!!! That would suck!

Does anyone have experience with this?

Advice is greatly appreciated.

P.S. I believe being in the hospital is what kick started this episode anyway. 5 days and they never let me sleep! To go back in the middle is really freaking me out.

I had my right overy removed, a hysterectomy, lower back surgery, gall bladder surgery, etc I had no problems after or during surgery. :D But I always went in prepared. Talk to the surgeon and anastesiologist. Let them know all about ch and the meds you take to abort ch. My last surgery I needed something because I got hit for a couple of months after surgery. My dr said the anastesia must have effected me. [smiley=huh.gif] They had a script of imitrex waiting for me when I got out of surgery. Everything went away just as the good imitrex kicked in! So communication is the key and stressing you need these scripts in place ready to go because time is of the essense.

I'm having jaw surgery on the 13th and my right ovary is coming out as well around the 25th. I'll talk to both my docs and have the imitrex on hand. will they supply easy access to O2 as well?

The plug-in port should be right above your bed when you wake up. Just make sure you tell someone prior that you want a mask waiting and at your disposal.

I just received my clustermasx two days ago. The oxygen wasn't working before that. Do you think they will allow me to bring my own mask?

First of all goodluck with your surgeries sending vibes for that.
I have had numerous surgeries and I always explain about ch's. you can bring your clustermask, just plug it into the port before your surgery. If you use imetrex they'll have it ready for you. Like everyone said communication is the key. If they know they'll do anything to help you out

That sounds great. I just started using the oxygen for the first time 3 days ago. The first night, I didn't like it very much. I didn't have my clustermasx yet and it really didn't work. The next day my clustermasx arrived and what a difference! I haven't had a full CH yet. So, I really want to have my mask with me. I so afraid of waking up in recovery w/ a CH. I usually wake up and within half an hour there it is. I'll talk to the physician about having it all there when I awake.

I was in the hospital about a month ago for the IV DHE-45 treatment. I brought my clustermasx with me and nobody even batted an eyelash. Hook 'er right up to the spigot next to your bed. And tell the hospital staff that you have a prescription for it if they ask.

I'm pretty sure that the hospital will NOT allow you to bring your own meds, however. They'll give you what you're taking now (and charge an arm and a leg for it). Give the hospital pharmacist a call and ask. Ask them specifically if they will have Imitrex injectable available on a moment's notice.

It's amazing what happens when a person talks to another person who actually listens. Real communication. Who'd a thunk it? ;;D
