Title: Doctor Called In Verapamil Prescription Post by Superirish2005 on Sep 6th, 2006, 9:55am I have not picked it up yet but my doctor called in the prescriotion yesterday and told me it will not work like Maxalt but I take the Verapamil daily. He said it could be 1-2 weeks before I start feeling any effects. How well has Verapamil worked for others here? Does it knock the ehadaches out completely? any nasty side effects? |

Title: Re: Doctor Called In Verapamil Prescription Post by Chonas on Sep 6th, 2006, 11:44am SuperIrish, as far as I know only remission can knock the headaches out completely. Medication has helped me to reduce the amount of headaches and sometimes the intensity of pain as well. My cycles may last from 2.5 to 4 months, and only when it's remission time they're knocked out completely. |

Title: Re: Doctor Called In Verapamil Prescription Post by Superirish2005 on Sep 6th, 2006, 11:52am So is Verapamil even worth trying? |

Title: Re: Doctor Called In Verapamil Prescription Post by prcole18 on Sep 6th, 2006, 12:05pm Verapamil is worth trying. I'm taking 480mg a day, it does take a while to kick in though, for me abpout a month. It has reduced the amount of attacks I get but hasn't killed them off completely, May be my neuro will up the dose when I see him in a couple of weeks. To be honest I think the headaches will go completely when they are ready no matter what you take. |

Title: Re: Doctor Called In Verapamil Prescription Post by BigCoffinHunter on Sep 7th, 2006, 7:59am I've switched over to Verapamil from the Keppra, transitioning with another steroid run. As soon as I started tapering down, I could feel the beast starting to get roused back up. Doc doubled my dosage, and I can defintely feel an improvement. My taper off the steroids comes in the next couple days, so we'll see how effective it is, but I have a good feeling. |

Title: Re: Doctor Called In Verapamil Prescription Post by Karla on Sep 7th, 2006, 1:42pm I tried all the way up to 960mg of verapamil. It did nothing but severly constipate me and give me an irregular heart beat. However, It works almost for everyone at various levels. So if your not having any luck after a couple of weeks dont be afraid to ask your dr to raise the dosage. Remember everyone is different. I really think I am one of the few that it didn't work for. I found relief in lithium 900mg. Some people get relief in the combonation between verapamil and lithium mixed. Good luck I really think your on the right track. |

How can you have ch pain and ask a question like that? Jesus H Christ, I have a cure for you but I won't say it here. Lets just say it involves ones head in a gas range for an extended period of time! Do some research and talk with your Dr. |

Go ahead. Don't try it. Don't try anything that your doctor suggests, or that you've learned about here. Just keep on keeping on with your Kip 9's every day. God, man! Do you enjoy your pain and suffering. Why on earth wouldn't you at least TRY IT? Try something - anything. Life is too short as it is - why not at least make an attempt to make your life a little better? Sandy |

Title: Re: Doctor Called In Verapamil Prescription Post by prcole18 on Sep 7th, 2006, 5:41pm Got to agree with the last couple of posts. My experience with CH is such that I would try ANYTHING to help prevent them & I mean anything! O2 never did much for me but I think I'm one of the few unlucky ones, Imigran jabs are my life saver. But as for preventives, Verapamil seems to be helping me, but I assure you if it stops working i'll be trying something else. Oh P.S, chopmyheadoff, glad you PF, im on the same dosage of Verap as you & chronic, so hopefully with a lot of luck I may me PF with ya soon! :D |

PLEASE, PLEASE MOVE ON, GO AWAY!!! You keep on promising that and then start posting again! You are a little twit who has never been able to get a date with a girl, you have no friends because all that you do is whine, whine, whine about "poor me, nobody likes me, everybody hates me, I'm going to eat some worms!" So go and eat them already, the poisonous kind and GO AWAY. You are the most boring, self pitying jackass that I have ever run across-go play in traffic, PLEASE! I promise to take up a collection and send some nice flowers to your service. Thank you very much and next week we will have a man on the show who can prove that CH, which has suddenly disappeared from the face of the earth, was caused by Superirish's whining. Good nite from the BBC! |

Now you've gone and done it - you've got me shakin' in my boots now. Are you happy? Where, exactly, is the attack? Where I asked you how many posts you made after you said you were leaving? Where I said we don't play pity parties? Where's the attack? I don't think we speak the same language. You may remember this, but you have certainly forgotten to ask your doctor for a prescription for oxygen. If you can't remember that, methinks you'll forget this, too. |
