Title: Hot Showers??? Post by Superirish2005 on Aug 26th, 2006, 9:48pm O.k. I thought I read somewhere where someone takes hot showers. Well I tried that tonight and so far so good. Do scalding hot showers work? I am willing to try anything? |

Title: Re: Hot Showers??? Post by Charlotte on Aug 26th, 2006, 9:50pm Irish, nice to hear from you. I wouldn't scald my skin off, but as hot as you can stand it for as long as it's your turn in the shower is good. Still having bad nights? Charlotte |

Title: Re: Hot Showers??? Post by big_guy on Aug 26th, 2006, 9:52pm I have sometimes found that a scalding hot shower from the shoulders down will stop an attack from building up. sometimes it makes things worse Big Guy |

Hang tough bud, hopefully he'll check out soon. :( Lots of crushed ice in a zip lock baggie rubbed all over my right side and some o2 at 15 lpm with the clustermasx helps me out most of the way. Don't go too crazy on the try anything stuff, that never worked for me. Cheers, Sean.......................................... |

Title: Re: Hot Showers??? Post by TimJohnson on Aug 28th, 2006, 1:16am Very hot shower right on the side where I am getting hit seems to knock the pain out, step put of the water pain, step in the water no pain, etc. Wierd huh? |

Title: Re: Hot Showers??? Post by maureenv on Aug 28th, 2006, 1:17am Glad the hot showers are working for you. I use hot showers as well. I would be worried of scalding water though cause then the skin may become to tender and sometimes the hot shower is all that works. Sometimes after a hot shower a coldpack on the neck really helps to. good luck Maureen |

Title: Re: Hot Showers??? Post by drivin_blind on Aug 28th, 2006, 9:21am I can't imagine anything hot when I'm getting hit. Ice packs rotating from my neck to the top of my head, then to the right side. (I'm a right sider) I just keep rotating. Heat, for some reason, escelates the pain. Then I put on the Moody Blues and try to concentrate on the music. Hey, anything to get my mind off the headache. |

Title: Re: Hot Showers??? Post by lionsound on Aug 28th, 2006, 9:27am Hot shower followed quick by cold shower on my head. if i'm really stuffy and histamine-full, the steamy shower helps or breathing steam over a sink of hot h2o with a towel over my head like a tent. |

Title: Re: Hot Showers??? Post by Shazza on Aug 28th, 2006, 3:53pm Heat seems to be a trigger with me so I tend to have cool showers in cycle. I made the huge mistake of trying to relax in a nice hot bath....did i pay for that one!!!! |

Title: Re: Hot Showers??? Post by Chonas on Sep 1st, 2006, 12:39pm Hot showers have always helped me to tolerate CH attacks. While in cycle, specially at night when the beast does what it does, hot showers became an important part of my survival process. A long time ago my Doc told me that it can lower blood pressure, so if I can stay long enough (40-45') it seem to happen that way, and the pain doesn't feel so destructive, |

Title: Re: Hot Showers??? Post by JimH on Sep 1st, 2006, 2:13pm I also use one of those cloth bean like sacks that you can put in the microwave for 2 minutes that provides that nice hot relief..... Even a moist towell heated in the microwave works if the sack isn't available. Best, Jim |

Title: Re: Hot Showers??? Post by Superirish2005 on Sep 1st, 2006, 5:26pm so take showers while the attack is going on and not as a preventative. I am gonna try this the next time I get hit in the middle of the night. |

Title: Re: Hot Showers??? Post by DavidEH on Sep 2nd, 2006, 3:55am another one for hot showers... Today for example, got hit, and the hot shower killed the attack in about 20 minutes (after unsuccessful oxygen, and 2 hours after taking a relpax).. I even tried cold water, in between.. When I did that it shot the pain up... When I went to hot, it went back down, even pausing for a second... It was like satan's radio knob... |

Title: Re: Hot Showers??? Post by Nick8977 on Sep 2nd, 2006, 3:53pm Hey Irish, Im new here, but even before I was diagnosed with CH (only last week >:() I realized that hot showers do seem to help. I dont know about anyone else, but I just put my head down into the showerhead and get it as hot as I can take it. Just ride it out...... At least it gives temporary relief for me. In fact that is where Im headed now. :-X Take Care Nick |

Title: Re: Hot Showers??? Post by The_CHosen_One on Sep 7th, 2006, 4:52am Hello, all. Speaking as a long time chronic sufferer, I have tried almost everything there is (as long as it doesn't have caffeine, due to allergies), and to no avail. Both hot and cold showers intensify my attacks... actually, anything hot or cold intensifies it for me. I used to find partial relief with O2, 15L/m for 20 min, but that was expensive and eventually lost it's effectiveness. I am not trying to ridicule hot or cold showers, just giving my 2 cents that it doesn't work for me...nothing does. Chronicly 8+, The CHosen One |

Title: Re: Hot Showers??? Post by Karla on Sep 7th, 2006, 10:20pm I agree with the last poster. Anything hot triggers a ch and makes it that much more intensor. Keep it away from me! Sure glad it works for you. |

Title: Re: Hot Showers??? Post by JimH on Sep 8th, 2006, 12:12pm We are all so different and what works for one may not work for another. There are some things like O2 & Imitrex that works for the majority and I have found this site to be so good with many ideas that we all can experiment with and if they work, great! If they don't, keep researching and find the right remedies for you. The best defense is a good offense! I wish you a pain free day! Jim |
