Title: Laying Down With Clusters
Post by Superirish2005 on Aug 22nd, 2006, 1:07pm
Sometimes the pain is so bad I just need to lay down with clusters but that always seems to intensify the pain especially when I lay my head on the side of the headache. I just do not know what else to do but when I lay down the pain seems to intensify, is this normal?

Yes, that's normal and why you'll often see us refer to a CH hit as "the dance". There are pacers, head-bangers, rockers, and writhers among us.

To lay down during a cluster? No.
To make the cluster worse? Yes

Lay down?

Nuh-uh.

Hope things improve for you soon.

Best wishes,

Lay down?  NO WAY JOSE!

Try taking some Melatonin at night before it's time for bed. This might get you some rest (it works on some). Also invest in some RED BULL and drink it down at the first sign of CH. This also helps some of us.

If you can get rest then the exhaustion won't be there and you can fight the day hits better.

My doc gave me a script for one of those beds that go up and down (I don't do pillows well - get cricks in my neck). They are expensive and don't know if your insurance will cover them (mine didn't) but they are worth the price.

Wishing you PF days ahead....

Hugs BD

The only place I could lie down would be on a rail road track during the commuter rush.

I sometimes lay in the floor for a few seconds after I fall down.

Lay down during an attack?  Oh, HELL no!  I also sleep propped up on a bunch of pillows or in a recliner.

After pacing and screaming, I myself end up on the floor, though, not resting.  Hope you could try 02, helps with breathing techniques too!  Good luck!

My first Doc. told me to find a dark quiet place to lay down and it made the HA worse ,so I just started pacing and going for walks . The only one I can lay down with are low kips and the big ones will put me on the floor anyways .

That's interesting, cause I usually lie down for about 80% of the ones that prevent me from doing anything else. THe other 20% are too bad to lie down, I usually pace and try not to punch things. When I do lie down it's not still though, shift position every 20 seconds or so and rub my neck/head.

I never thought that it would make it worse, because there are migraines in my family and lying down is just what you do when your head hurts.

That Doc is trying to treat you for migraines. Glad you said he/she was your 'first' Doc.

That's me to a T.  I rarely get 10s anymore...even 9s are few and far between, so most of the time I can lie down.  I have to be in a certain position, though, and if the CH goes above a level 8 I'm up and pacing, or at least sitting and rocking.

How clearly I remember the days before 02 and that sinking, sick feeling of absolute despair I'd get when I felt one coming on.  Guys, what did we ever do without it?

Lying down with a cluster to me is as ludicrous as enjoying an ice cream while my balls are being put through a shredder. Never gonna happen.

People of course rock, writhe, pace, etc. I have done lately what I call "The Sway". Hard to keep any kind of rythm of rocking motion during a Kip 10 - the head just rolls in between rocks.

Peace,
Carl D

If I take a Maxalt and lie down, takes 30-45 minutes to work.

If I take Maxalt and stand in washroom it is gone in like 15-30 minutes so I am learning my lesson about lying down but sometimes it is too painful to do anything else.

Laying down only allows you to concentrate more on the pain.

Our movement is actually a defense mechanism our body somehow nkows that the best way to abort this attack is to increase heartrate.Im sure many of us know that some strenous activity can abort an attack.
I also never had a CH during sex however i have had them right after.
